1. The Diary Of A Young Girl [Book]
Product Details:
The diary as anne frank wrote it. at last, in a new translation, this definitive edition contains entries about anne's burgeoning sexuality and confrontations with her mother that were cut from previous editions. anne frank's "the diary of a young girl" is among the most enduring documents of the twentieth century. since its publication in 1947, it has been a beloved and deeply admired monument to the indestructible nature of the human spirit, read by millions of people and translated into more than fifty-five languages. doubleday, which published the first english translation of the diary in 1952, now offers a new translation that captures anne's youthful spirit and restores the original material omitted by anne's father, otto — approximately thirty percent of the diary. the elder frank excised details about anne's emerging sexuality, and about the often-stormy relations between anne and her mother. anne frank and her family, fleeing the horrors of nazi occupation forces, hid in the back of an amsterdam office building for two years. this is anne's record of that time. she was thirteen when the family went into the "secret annex," and in these pages, she grows to be a young woman and proves to be an insightful observer of human nature as well. a timeless story discovered by each new generation, "the diary of a young girl" stands without peer. for young readers and adults, it continues to bring to life this young woman, who for a time survived the worst horrors the modern world had seen — and who remained triumphantly and heartbreakingly human throughout her ordeal.

A beautiful story of dedicated woman who wanted to make a difference in WW1. The book is full of sacrifices, caring and a lovely story line.9986lena
I really enjoy historical fiction, and this book did not disappoint, it kept my attention right to the end, and then beyond with the author's notes! You are given the feeling that you are in the trenches of this horrible war, we see the aftermath of what is left behind when the enemy retreats, and wonder how things will ever get back to some normalcy, if there is such a thing, and how and if these people will survive. While fictional this story is brimming with facts, and just thinking of these young woman so close to those trenches, knowing how the enemy was spewing gas on those fighting for freedom. I enjoyed this, it is good to remember the past, so hopefully it doesn't repeat! I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher William Morrow, and was not required to give a positive review.MaureenT
I thought this was a good book and did a good job of telling what it was like for the ladies that went to help in the war.Griperang
3. It Starts With Us: A Novel [Book]
Product Details:
After nearly two years separated, she is elated that for once, time is on their side, and she immediately says yes when atlas asks her on a date. but her excitement is quickly hampered by the knowledge that, though they are no longer married, ryle is still very much a part of her life—and atlas corrigan is the one man he will hate being in his ex-wife and daughter’s life. revealing more about atlas’s past and following lily as she embraces a second chance at true love while navigating a jealous ex-husband, it proves that “no one delivers an emotional read like colleen hoover” (anna todd, new york times bestselling author).
Reviews:
Who knew we needed a sequel. A Wonderful addition to the characters lives. Although the first book made me sad I loved that there was hope at the end. To have a storyline/book where it truly is focus on Atlas and Lily was a fabulous added touch. I truly enjoyed the Theo character what a lovable grown up boy he was. I enjoyed the other subplot storyline that happened. This book was very realistic in the way it depicts what happens when a divorce mother begins dating and has to deal with possible fallout of the ex-husband not being okay with it. Another exceptional storyline by Ms. Hoover bravo to her.Ann-Marie B.
The Perfect Sequel to It Ends With Us This was such a perfect end to a story we didn t know we needed a sequel to. It Ends With Us ended on a perfect note and we kinda gather what was going to happen to Lily and Atlas. It Starts With Us gave such an incredible story a love story we needed to read. I loved it for so many different reasons Lily is a superhero! Atlas is perfection and Rile is in desperate need of someone who can help him I cant help but feel bad for him I know I shouldn t but I can t help it. Colleen you ve done it again and I can t recommend this book enough. 2 people found this helpfulYady S.
The uplift we all need I have read everything Colleen Hoover has written so I had been counting the days until “It Starts With Us” was released. Meanwhile I reread “It Ends With Us” to refresh my memory of the characters. (It made me realize that I want to go back and reread all her books.) I fell in love all over again with Lily and Atlas. It was a hard heartfelt read. “It Starts With Us” picks up where the first book ends and we readers not only wanted that we needed it. These books will hit home with many people and it will offer them encouragement and hope. And we all need that. It s an absolute perfect read and you walk away feeling content. We all need that too.KNH

Reviews:
After all the books I've read about the horrors surronding WWII it still amazes me how awful humans can be to each other. Lilac Girls is one of those novels that brings to light a little known atrocity… the experimentation on women in Ravensbruck Concentration Camp. The writing is so raw that at times I wasn't sure I'd be able to get through it. It saddens me so much to think that any of the victims of these atrocities would carry guilt feeling any it was their fault. I appreciate the dedication and research Kelly did in order to bring these women's story to us. It is important that stories like these continue to be written so that the victims of these atrocities are never forgotten. 4.5 stars.*Spoiler? My one criticism might be a spoiler so at this point you might want to stop reading…The only part of this story I didn't really feel connected with was the relationship between Caroline and Paul. Something about it just felt off. To my surprise, I discovered in the Authors Note that this was the only totally fictious relationship in the book. I don't think this relationship was needed and it would've earned a 5 star rating from me if it had been omitted. Still a brillant story.raluca.f
This was a book club selection. Not enjoyable reading, but interesting and well written. I did enjoy reading about the authors interest in the topic and how she followed it up to tell the story of the women who were experimented on and the activist who helped them heal. It saddens me that people are still living in fear not unlike what happened in Poland.2014usforma
This debut novel is based on a true story about real people. Historical fiction based on fact, this is a haunting and emotional novel written with beauty and strength. Detailed and descriptive, this WWII story captures the realities of the inhumane and cruel horrors inflicted on women housed at Ravensbruck. Lilac Girls is based on 3 main characters and their individual stories, each told with depth and grit. I look forward to reading more novels by this gifted author!Nancee

Reviews:
I read this book from start to finish all in one day I could not set it down! I have followed along with the author Ashley Flowers and her podcasts (huge crime junkie fan) for a long time now and she did not disappoint with this book. Every time I thought I knew what was gonna happen next there was another twist in the story and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole book. This is by far my new FAVORITE book and I will be buying multiple copies for Christmas presents. I would love for Ashley to write more books in the future and would buy them all in a heart beat.Kailey
If you've ever involuntarily blurted out 'And I'm Britt', this is the book for you. If you've pounced on this book before reading the blurb, allow me to enlighten you: this is a novel, not a super long episode of Crime Junkie in book form. Not that I'd ever open a book, see A Novel after the title and question every assumption I've ever made. All Good People Here (A Novel) primarily takes place in Wakarusa, Indiana, where Ashley and Britt grew up. In 1994, six year old January Jacobs died. Everyone in town knew Krissy, January's mother, murdered her but the case has officially remained unsolved. "You don't want to go back to that sad little town where that terrible thing happened." Margot hasn't lived in Wakarusa for twenty years but has returned to care for her beloved Uncle Luke. When a young girl is reported missing in a nearby town, Margot believes the person who killed her childhood friend has struck again. Margot is determined to use her crime reporting skills to solve the cases but she seems to be the only one seeing their similarities. This may be a small town but many of its residents are living with secrets. "What did you do?" Hearing the story from Krissy and Margot's perspectives, you learn about the dynamics of the Jacobs' family, how the investigation into January's death unfolded and the impact it has had on everyone close to the case in the subsequent years. A few key details about January and her death made me think of JonBenét Ramsey. Once I made that connection, I had trouble seeing anything else. I enjoyed tagging along as Margot followed up leads, although I did get a bit bogged down at times with what was happening with Luke. I guessed some of the reveals but, rather than being disappointed by this as I usually would be, it made me feel like I was being a good Crime Junkie. It's taken me two weeks since finishing this book to attempt writing a review and that's mostly due to the last time we see Margot in this book. Readers will likely either love or hate this scene. I loved it but, because I don't want to get all spoilery, I can't tell you why I loved it and that's what I really want to talk about. I'm looking forward to reading future books by Ashley. Until then, I'll keep getting my Crime Junkie fix whenever I can and remembering to always "Be weird. Be rude. Stay alive." Content warnings are included on my blog. Thank you so much to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for the opportunity to read this book.Schizanthus Nerd
As someone who typically doesn't read thrillers or mysteries, I truly enjoyed this debut novel from Ashley Flowers! The characters are well developed & enjoyable and the small-town-everyone-knows-everyone setting felt realistic but mystical at the same time. The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat literally until the last word. The ending was UNBELIEVABLE! I hope to read more from Ashley in the future.gap0802
6. The Four Winds: A Novel [Book]
Product Details:
From kristin hannah, the #1 new york times bestselling author of the nightingale and the great alone, comes an epic novel of love and heroism and hope, set against the backdrop of one of america's most defining eras–the great depression. texas, 1934. millions are out of work and a drought has broken the great plains. farmers are fighting to keep their land and their livelihoods as the crops are failing, the water is drying up, and dust threatens to bury them all. one of the darkest periods of the great depression, the dust bowl era, has arrived with a vengeance. in this uncertain and dangerous time, elsa martinelli–like so many of her neighbors–must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or go west, to california, in search of a better life. the four winds is an indelible portrait of america and the american dream, as seen through the eyes of one indomitable woman whose courage and sacrifice will come to define a generation.
Reviews:
Way too depressing No more. The tiny bit of light at the end was far too small to make up for all the sadness. The notes at the end tell us her family lost someone dear in this pandemic so it appears Ms Hannah wants to be sure everyone shares her grief. We are already there. I needed something to lift me above today’s darkness and this sure wasn’t it. I can’t recommend it to anyone and will in fact recommend my friends NOT to read it. Unfortunately I know some have already bought it. I’ll not buy any more by her. This review was inspired by another reviewer. It is NOT a feel good book at all. I liked learning more about the events of the times, but wish I would not of brought myself into this deeply dark book.Mtreader
Heartrending & beautiful Dust Bowl elegy. Raised as a recluse in a house without love, former rich girl Elsa stumbles out into the world when she's about to become a mother. A selfless immigrant family teaches her what it means to tend things–the land, her loved ones, and eventually herself. She grows from a timid girl, who has learned how to be invisible, to a warrior, brave enough to take on any challenge to provide a life and future for her children. I found the growth of the mother daughter dynamic with Rose, Elsa, and Loreda especially powerful. "Her story-which is the story of a time and land and the indomitable will of a people-is my story; two lives woven together, and like any good story, ours will begin and end and begin again." Eventually, Elsa becomes one with the downtrodden that society has overlooked and finds her voice in speaking out for them. Politics aside, touching scenes of kindness and sacrifice amidst suffering and loss had me tearing up. At times lyrical, at times gritty. A must-read.Reneeann

I'm sorry to say that this book just couldn't hold my attention. There were too many details to get lost in, and while parts of it were interesting, I finally abandoned it before finishing. Donated to my local library.genie57lgs
A well researched story of a little known effort by ordinary people to help win the war — despite not knowing, for the most part what they were doing. A good story about a dramatic time and determination to overcome real hardship in the process.wistons.girl

I do own almost all of his other books but this is the first I have read. I was hoping to finish it before I watch the movie and I am happy I finished it. (Still have yet to see the movie, but I’m looking forward to it). There are many different details throughout the book that I enjoyed. I really liked how he talked about the Children’s Hospitals and the difference between them and “regular” hospitals. Children’s hospitals are always more colorful and bright compared to other hospitals. I myself, can vouch for that having been going to a Children’s Hospital since before I was born. I definitely like them more. Anyway, back to the book, Augustus getting sick again wasn’t really a surprise, I felt like it would happen that way, when I was reading it. It is still sad none-the-less. Hazel naming her breathing machine made me giggle since I have named my own. I can definitely tell that John Green wrote this book because I have watched his Youtube videos enough that his voice and his personality can be seen throughout the book. I think that the storyline is average, honestly to me it’s just another cancer book. I think all of the characters were similar to each other. I think the humor in the book was not very fitting for the overall topic of the book. The conversations felt unrealistic. Maybe it’s just me. I really liked the end of the book. I liked that the letter wasn’t to Hazel. Overall I enjoyed the book and I’m glad I read it. I think the hype was just a bit much for me. I’m giving this a three out of five stars.sarah.o
I had never read a John Green novel prior to reading this one. I wanted very much to like it and felt certain after reading some of the overwhelmingly positive reviews here that it would be an awesome and heartbreaking experience. I was ready and excited. I guess I could sum the experience up best by stating that it is unlikely I will read another book by this author, and if I do it will be sometime in the future when I forget how utterly disappointing I found this book to be. I had a lot of problems with this book. Overall, it felt very insincere and I was constantly distracted by how obviously everything was written with the goal of tugging on the reader's heart strings, rather than just letting things happen that were beautiful in spite of being sad. It felt like Mr. Green was screaming at me from the page 'ARE YOU SAD YET? YOU'RE SAD RIGHT? THIS IS SAD. YOU SHOULD FEEL ALL THE THINGS AND CRY ABOUT IT. I'M A GOOD WRITER. I WRITE FEELINGS. ARE YOU CRYING YET?' For a story about Human Beings, it doesn't feel very human at all. Instead everything feels very unnatural and self-conscious in the worst way.mari.s
The Fault in Our Stars is such a great romance novel that is actually really sad, but those are the best types of books. When I read this book, it had a major plot twist that I was not expecting, but it made the book a lot better than I thought it would be. I would recommend it, even though a lot of people have read it before. I chose to read this because I saw it at the store and I knew that I needed to read it because everyone else was. So, this book is about this girl named Hazel Grace Lancaster that has thyroid cancer, so she has a lot of trouble breathing because her lungs don't function properly. She's told that she needs to go to a support group, and meets a boy named Augustus Waters, and he has osteosarcoma, so he had to get his leg amputated. It's sad that Hazel still had cancer, but it's a good thing that Gus passed it. They both fall in love with each other, basically, and they recommend books to each other as well. Hazel told Gus he should read An Imperial Affliction, which is about a girl who has cancer, and Gus told Hazel to read Price of Dawn, which is about stormtroopers and things like that. Since they both really liked An Imperial Affliction they want to know what happens after so they plan a trip to go to Amsterdam to talk to the author, Peter Van Houten. Unfortunately, when they went, Peter was rude to them. But before they went to Amsterdam, Hazel got sick again and the doctors said she couldn't go, but she did after all. On that trip, Gus said that he had a body scan and i showed that he had cancer again, all over this body. In the end, Gus died, which I not see coming because I though Hazel was the one going to die in the book. My favorite part was when they had a nice, romantic dinner in Amsterdam. But overall, this book was fantastic. (less)leila.r

Gave to my 11 year old daughter. I was unsure what her reaction would be and it turned out to be a positive one. Especially since two of her other friends already had the book. She has been reading it and is now asking questions. She has always known that she was able to talk to me about anything but this has opened up new things and questions that she did not know that she had. She is even taking notes..wierd huh! Very informative and a good tool for young girls!JJYL
I remember having these when I was growing up. So happy to see they still exist! Perfect knowledgeable book for your kiddos growing up. Addresses many concerns in a responsible way! A !G
The book overall was great. Our family is apposed to tampon use. The book did go into deal about the proper way to use them. However, I personally felt the information was to much. A suggestion is possibly having books that have direct information in a cliff note version as well as using pads that give details. The level 2 book could have brushed the use. Again, the book is great however that section was graphic and detailed as a book should offer if that is the direction you are going with self care and your child.SANDY

This book spells out what we sometimes know deep down is going on but need to be regularly reminded of. It is very compelling and helpful. I despise the devil and he sure despises us! Hes warped and a totally unfair liar who tries to convince you youre better off not doing things Gods way. How utterly inaccurate THAT is! The authors wisdom and experience helps you fight back and regain control. Buy the book and lend it to every woman you can!honeypot1611

Ok if youre using a computer to read this book. Got directions to download to a kindle but print was so small I couldnt read it. Finally got it on an old mini iPad but had to enlarged the text on each page as I read it.kfko-47
What an amazing insight into these extraordinary women from a remote island in South Korea. I love the sea and the descriptions of how they dive for long periods of time in very cold waters just using their incredible breath control is captivating. I also learned a lot about Korean history and culture which is also very interesting….and at times very sad. The story is told with dignity and careful research and I enjoyed it immensely.Margie

I really enjoyed this book! It has a great plot which kept unravelling the further you read. A definite page turner, I loved how just when you thought you'd reached the conclusion the bottom fell out & you kept on being surprised.Abbey
I wanted to read this book for a very long time. So I bought it. I didn't get past the prologue because of the cruelty to the dog story. I can't and won't read about that. She should be ashamed of herself for thinking it would be good story telling! I threw the book away! I would not recommend this book, ever!shoegal-5959
Yet again Karin Slaughter writes a brilliant book. However I did find this one at times difficult to read due to the graphic description the author uses I do recommend giving it a read as I did find it hard to put downShannon

Reviews:
I couldn't have loved this book more! The author really bared her soul and spoke to the core of what so many women are dealing with today in their busy, frantic, high-achieving lives. Trey quickly draws you in with her vivid and very personal descriptions of the behind the scenes emotions, doubts, and fears of a successful woman. I love that each chapter gave the reader something to think about in their own lives, and affirmations that were meaningful and helpful and not at all cheesy. I loved listening to her tell her story in her own voice – she had me laughing (anyone who has a Caribbean mother will agree) and crying throughout the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is putting in the hard work to live their best lives – take the time to care for yourself and your emotions. For myself, this book has been a powerful first step in that direction.LisaB

Reviews:
The Sun and Her Flowers. Written in five chapters — wilting, falling, rooting, rising and blooming, she beautifully brings to life sentiments that perhaps every woman has experienced at some point. Thoughts on grief and love and self-worth and losing oneself to the point that one doesn’t care, and then slowly finding one’s way back to oneself. Every now and then, there comes a writer whose painful honesty will get you on most days and you will want to sit with a bunch of people, who don’t yet know what’s going to hit them and read to them. Even with the really morbid bits of her poems on female foeticide, as you pause to catch your breath, you will find yourself nodding at how real it is. I don’t think words can do justice to how wonderful this book is. I devoured it within a few hours and I would recommend you do the same.ℳargie.c
