Reviews:
With simple rhyming text and charming illustrations, "It Starts with a Bee" is truly a delightful storybook. My eight year old loved that the rhyme refers to the dance that bees do to communicate the location of good flowers. My six month old seemed to really enjoy the illustrations and the gentle rhyming text. One thing my son did point out is that the story doesn't tell you what bees do in the autumn. The story starts at winter and ends on summer. I also liked that there was extra information at the back of the book that explained how pollination occurs.BiblioKel

After following her journey, we are treated to a 2 page spread providing further information on types of bees and the pollination process. We all loved the illustrations and the simple sweet story of the bee. This picture book is a nice introduction to pollination and spring for preschoolers and early elementary learners. The whole thing was just beautiful and as light as a breath of spring air. *Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.Robin

Would recommend this book to anyone trying to ID bumble bees.nodaktrader
Item exactly as described. Sent quickly. Well packaged. Worth every penny I spent. This book was just what I needed. It is well written and the sections on how to identify different species of North American bumblebees had delineated drawings and color photgraphs. Seeing as bumblebees are declining in numbers and I recently had TWO sightings of an endangered bumblebee I wanted to plant more habitat for them. (Bumblebees pollinate tomatoes, blueberries and are used in a lot of greenhouse settings.) This book will help me with that. This book has a lot of nice color illustrations so it is also visually interesting.gregbondo

Reviews:
I'm a first time beekeeper. I have taken classes and I have reference materials. This book is by far the best resource. I would definitely recommend classes but when it comes to books I'd say choose this one. It is easy to find the information you need, the information is spot on, and it's even entertaining to read! On the news one night they showed a police officer who is a beekeeper vacuuming up a swarm that had formed in a public place. No hat, no veil, no gloves, no suit, no smoker, no problem with bees being aggressive and stinging. So a couple of days later I tried just checking my hives for a few minutes without using the smoker. They hadn't been too bad when I checked them previous times with the smoker going. Guess what? I have have never seen such an angry bunch of bees! I have a one piece bee suit and one managed to get inside my hood. I got stung on my ankle (that one became infected and I had to be prescribed antibiotics 10 days later). They followed me to the house, that's never happened before or since. Four hours after that check they were still willing to come up to the house to sting (they chased my husband who had not been present for the morning check, and when I went out moments later I got stung three times on the back of my left shoulder). That too hadnever happened before, nor since, while using the smoker. I think it was 2 days later that I received this book and read the writer's comment about how not using a smoker would be a mistake you'd only make once. I could agree with the him whole-heartedly! He gives very good instruction on how to use the smoker too. I have no idea how that cop did what he did, it must be some kind of magic LOL. When I wondered if my bees were thinking of swarming this book explained what bearding in hot weather was. I am so glad I bought this, and I would recommend it to anyone who is starting out and the best book to have on hand for answers to questions.elendilite63
Fabulous book, very informative. Highly recommended if you are thinking of keeping bees. Covers every aspect.123-smartcar

Reviews:
I was recommended the Advanced Top Bar Beekeeping book by a friend since I want to start beekeeping. It is number two in a series however, and Booktopia does not offer the initial book. This makes it awkward as one year's prior experience is assumed throughout the book. Apart from that assumption, the information is clear and concise and accompanied by appropriate photography. Please note the style of beekeeping outlined is top bar as opposed to the more common Langstroth hives. This book is good addition to an apiarist's library.
This book is very informative for anyone wanting to get into Top Bar Bee Keeping, well laid out and easy to not only to read but follow and understand. Clear concise instructions.Scr00ge
