Self help books are the most reliable if you have personally checked them out before purchasing. See if their format is appealing to your learning senses, some people like colour coding, some love lists. Others are fine with reading infinite paragraphs. If you want to purchase this book, go into a bookstore next time and flick through it, then buy online. Saves remorse. Aside from learning through a book, attending night classes on the topic and asking around friends and family to possibly give up some time to teach you is a good way to gain knowledge.

This is the 2nd D Wright Guide to Free Campgrounds that I have purchased. My old guide was about fifteen years old and I needed a more current version. I have not used the new guide yet, but I can certainly attest to the fact that the first guide paid for itself on the first trip and many times over. I think there is a misconceived belief that cheap or free equates to bad or inferior. This is absolutely not true! Some of the cheaper or free sites may be off the main well travelled interstates, but out-of-the-way campsites are, IMO, usually the best.billyhii
This book allows us to discover new and fun places to experience camping. It also helps us to do so on a lower budget. We love to find small out of the way communities to enrich our traveling journeys and connect with new people. This book has allowed us the convenience of that information.grandpajerry42

The only reason for not 5 stars is because some of the information is outdated, mostly on gear selections. 18. The Book Of Camping And Woodcraft: A Guidebook For Those Who Travel In The Wilderness [Book]

Product Details:
This 2011 edition is an exact reprint of the 1910 edition, and reproduces the original layout and illustrations perfectly. there is no gibberish or poorly ocr'd text in the one with the green and black cover. "your thoroughbred camper likes not the attentions of a landlord, nor will he suffer himself to be rooted to the soil by cares of ownership or lease. it is not possession of the land, but of the landscape, that enjoys; and as for that, all the wild parts of the earth are his, by a title that carries with it no obligation but that he shall not desecrate nor lay them waste." h. kephart intended as the definitive pocket field guide for the turn of the 20th century woodsman and camper, the the book of camping & woodcraft was originally published in 1906. this particular "heritage edition" appears as it was on the second reprinting in 1910. in 1916, kephart dramatically expanded the book into two volumes to include wagon camping and semi-permanent base camp construction. these are the equivalent of modern car camping – just a couple of notches down from a motel stay. the 1910 edition is the "purest" of all the editions of "the book of camping and woodcraft". fully illustrated with photographs and diagrams and packed with woodcraft lore, this book is a must-have for any rugged outdoorsman or bushcraft or classic camping enthusiast.
Reviews:
This is an entertaining and informative book on early 20th century camping and wood craft. Unfortunately this edition is a poor copy of the original: the photos are very poor reproductions and the text is formatted crooked in places where the text is cropped off. I have enjoyed reading the book, however annoyed by the poor quality of this edition.627mrk
