Reviews:
I am a self learner and this book is excellent for people who want to learn electronics. The content is as deep as most amateurs would want to go and can yield a solid foundation in the field of electronics. There are exams at the end of each chapter and the questions are designed to test an understanding of the concepts as well as the factual information presented.trademark-tm
The last basic electrical theory textbook I purchased and used in a college class cost about $150, was frequently unclear, and , according to my instructor, contained serious errors. Even I found several computational error in it. This book, on the other hand, is clear and concise, has no obvious errors, and costs about $30. I particularly like the quiz questions at the end of each chapter. Buy it and learn something.ghij333

Reviews:
This book was about a bird who didn't yet know how to fly. The bird has to decide if it will try to fly, but it was not sure if it wants to. The bird thought, "If I never forever endeavor" then I won't ever learn. On one wing, he worries he might fail and on the other wing he thinks of how he may succeed. He worries that if he tries, he may get lost in the world. That makes him want to stay in his nest where he's safe. I think this book would help other children to learn that trying new things can be scary, but sometimes when we try, we can find things that make us happy too. And this book will help others know that mistakes are okay and part of learning. My favorite part is that the bird tried and learned that she could fly. I also liked that I read this book because it gave me a chance to talk to mom about making mistakes and how I don't like making them. Then I learned they are good and part of learning. Boys and girls who are 3 to 8 years old would like this book because it teaches about trying a new thing and how it's important to get past being scared so you can learn new things. I give the book 5 stars since I think it's important for other children to learn about courage.ckoo-68
This is a solid resource. Well planned out and thorough. I Learned a great deal from this book.deadhitchhiker

It has info for the novice or the experienced tech, for the price I would consider it a must have for all those who like to challenge the " planned obslecense " of our every day items that we are so accustomed to and don't mind spending a little time on keeping them alive & wellwrenchbob
I probably wouldn't recommend this to someone as their first ever book on electronics or their first attempt at becoming competent with repairing electronics but for someone who has a really basic knowledge (capacitors, resistors and diodea etc.) It is great.theaustraliancollective
Whether starting out in the world of electronics or an experienced electronic engineer, we all learn something new everyday. This book covers the lot, minor detailed repairs to full blown headache repairs. Very well explained and images to cover the text. One chapter covered a vast outline of using the Oscilliscope. Very detailed overview of the controls, this is a must read. Theres a chapter that details how to re-solder IC's, where teperature has removed the pins from the PCB,saying that, it also covers PCB techniques. I could go on, its packed full of tips, tricks ect. Well worth the money.!mr_c_uk

Excellent! Easy to read and understand. I wish all books of this nature could be as good. Tons of information. A segment for quick access to formulas. And even projects with parts lists.thearkansawyer
Absolutely the best practical introduction to electronics I have found. This book was so good that after finding it in the library I had to get my own copy as a permanent reference. I am very pleased that I did. The author takes a structured but easy to read approach to understanding how electronic circuits work with detailed instructions and advice on locating the necessary parts and learning the necessary skills to build the circuits. Building the circuits is not necessary but will certainly assist anyone new to the field to understand the subject material and develop the soldering and layout design skills necessary for success. The final projects are a high quality variable voltage laboratory power supply and an audio quality power amplifier. This is the book for anyone thinking about fiddling with electronics as a hobby.
Good, easy introductory book. Pleasant reading. Inspirational for getting into electronics. Concepts are broken down into digestible chunks.eyedeology

This book has been very helpful in making me understand some concepts necessary for my studies. There are few typos here and there, but none that sacrifice the essence of the message. Could be updated to include more detailed figures that include charge accumulation signs at interfaces.JUAN
Excelent book, if you are considering to buy a book to do the firsts step in electronic I recomend this book.ama21a
Admittedly, even when written for the layman, electricity can be a very dense subject. However, after the first few chapters of this book, I was pleasantly surprised at just how well it's all broken down. It starts off with the most basic concepts and foundations, and works it's way up. So far I've been happy to find it's written in a way thats not quite as tedious as I would have expected. Being a beginner to the subject myself, I'd have to say I'd highly recommend it to other people looking to get into the subject for the first time, but also want to have somewhat of a foundation for later more advanced learning, as some more heavier subject matter is covered in later chapters.necropsychronautron

The book arrived very fast. It is looks like I bought this item for the best price as well (thanks to the seller – I like ungreedy sellers). The quality of product is excellent – this is a new book. The paper of pages is looking like nontransparent super white matt photo paper, but thin and very light with the best quality printing and colorful pictures and colorful text. It is comfortable to hold because the book is not heavy. It is easy to read and enjoy because it is written by simple understandable language and each page has page header which allow to understand in which section I am at the moment. The book gives the knowledge which was carefully collected and sorted by the author (many thanks to the author I like other his books as well as I like 'Make'). I enjoy it very much!z4r0n7

I have trouble reading small text. This is the only reason I would not recommend this specific book. The projects, in the book, are very compelling . Just Looking at the photos in the book makes my creativity soar. The directions, in the book, are easy to follow. My cat wants to turn her radio off and on by herself. I can adapt the Couch Potatoe Circuit in Chapter 14 to make my cat's dream a reality. The book is very useful.patrfitzg68
The dummies series rock because they make sure all their books are in reasonably large print so the readers don’t have trouble following the contents! The pages are usually recycled paper so it does cheapify the whole look, but you get what you pay for in this case. This book isn’t one that you should read too much into. Just skimming it through is enough to get the big picture and help you along your way of DIY. If all else fails you can always send a letter of complaint to the creators for wasting your time with too much embellishments.

A seriously good book on the subject, no question. Recommended.bchr5419
Prepared me to be real man of any kind of lab Tech for electrical enginnering. just know every things slow and I took the advatage to practice more every day on circuit and when the economy back on track I will be number 1 to get the job of the lab tech. Thanks Bahar EL-tayib0528bahar
This book will fill in the missing gaps you might have about inverters, coils, oscillating circuits, Multi Wave Osciollators, Signal Generators, oscillioscopes, hertz, ohms, multimeters, all electronic parts which are on a circuit board and their function, if you really read and study this book, you WILL have more knowledge than any individual person who went to college to obtain his Electrical Licence. I am very surprised that is even available to the public. And the two newer versions of this book are very good if you want to progress further into learning the next level of electronicservice such as building computer motherboardscience or plc logic controller boards from scratch. This Book is a must before going to the updated versions, and I do not care how intelligent you think you may be the amount of knowledge available in this one book contains more knowledge on all forms of electricity from a regular 120 outlet in your home, to building your own batteries. I have had some of flukes most expensive Power Quality Analyzers with portable osscilioscopes, magnetic field detection equipment, and every kind of meter that detects any type of magnetic or thermal or radiation or any type or anomaly some of those meters cost more than 30,000 dollars. But this book told me more about what you can do with those meters as well as other ways of detecting the exact same type of anomaly than the fluke instruction manual told me about. I recommend this book more than I recommend a 4 year college electronic engineering degree. I would think a book like this would sell for 800 to well over 1000 dollars. A friend recommend it and I purchased it online for 8 dollars from Amazon. Now I understand why it was so hard to find. Some of the greatest books are priced so low just to get them off the shelves. This book makes a 4yr electronic engineering degree turn into toilet paper. Get a copy while you can and never sell it. In 20 years, it will be worth tens of thousands.beachbum74
