Reviews:
Anything that helps people lead happier lives is worth the investment and this book may be of assistance. The title essentially sums up the thrust of the argument and is repeated with examples and activities throughout. The author is enthusiastic and has a clear writing style, free from obscurity and psycho-babble. That said, the advice works on a very simplistic level that in many ways fails to take into account human complexity. Nor does it try to understand the nature and causes of fear in any meaningful way. It may work for people with relatively minor problems who are prepared to put in the legwork with affirmations, post-its, charts and whatever else is recommended as a means of reinforcing new learning. At times the writing becomes trite and annoying ("It is all happening perfectly" is one recommended affirmation) and the author fails to acknowledge that her ideas are not original. By all means read it, but there are much better books around for helping us change the way we think, feel and act.

I bought this book as a follow up to the 1st edition of "Feal the Fear and Do It Anyway." As in the 1st book, this book was purchased because like millions of people, I find that sometimes I dont' get things done due to fear of the unknown or even fear of a possible result. Unlike any other book, this series teaches in a way that doesn't lecture or "tell you what you need to do." Rather, it informs you on why what you do happens, what results happen as a result of what you do and how to overcome the fear and look past it to the other side to achieve more in your life. It does it in such a way that it is enjoyable to read, enjoyable to learn and you can't wait to put into action what you've learned. I reccommend it to anyone and everyone, no matter your reading skill, your attention level, your reading level or your education or age.refreshed.1
Loved this book. Very helpfulMariana
Feel the Fear and Beyond repeats a lot of the information from the book Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway. however, Susan Jeffers provides excersizes that are very helpful in the process of applying what she teaches to your everyday life. it's like a personal journal filled with reinforcing advice. it's great! 🙂hshawbiz

Our world is riddled with fear-inducing headlines, financial meltdowns, family crises, and phobias of every stripe. no wonder the new york times now reports one in ten americans is now taking antidepressant or anxiety medication. as someone who has battled panic attacks and anxiety most of his life, lance hahn can relate.in how to live in fear, lance tackles the pervasive problem of fear and panic head-on by inviting readers into his world. in this genuine and practical book, he invites readers into the life of a pastor living with anxiety disorder. through humorous personal stories–like losing it on an airplane or collapsing onstage as he is about to preach–lance will win over readers with his transparency. he will also share the remedies that have helped him recover and overcome throughout the years.how to live in fear is a public intervention of sorts. millions of people suffer from anxiety disorders, and the church has done little to make them feel normal. many christians now take medication privately but keep it a secret under the shame of being viewed as a failure. lance willingly bares his soul in order to get the conversation started. he firmly believes the church should not only recognize the issue, but also help believers reconcile the guilt of being a christian while dealing with dread and anxiety filled with practical tips and advice, and full of relevant scriptures, how to live in fear gives readers the tools to relax in the face of fear–real or imagined. lance will show readers that while he may still encounter bouts of panic, he has never let his disorder stop him from living a full life.
Reviews:
This book discusses living with panic, anxiety, and fear disorders. The author, Lance Hahn, deals with severe anxiety and fear himself. As our temporary pastor while we read his book, Hahn talks about his own experiences with anxiety, as well as gives advice for living and thriving despite the disorder. I selected this book to review because I suffer from anxiety and panic disorders myself, and I thought it might be helpful (it was). Mental health issues such as depression and anxiety are topics that are too often shamed and avoided in the Christian faith. Those who do come out with their anxiety or depression are told that if they just had more faith or were better Christians, they would be fine, which just is not the case. Unfortunately, way too many people are completely ignorant when it comes to mental health, and they end up doing more harm than good. The difficulty comes in because our problems can't be seen; we look just fine on the outside, so our disorders are not taken seriously. In the first part of the book, Hahn describes his own experiences with his severe anxiety and fear, starting when he was six years old and lasting through adulthood. He does this so that the reader can see what he experiences and gain compassion and understanding. The reader sees that Hahn understands what they are going through. Through the second part of the book, Hahn talks about the causes, catalysts, and triggers for anxiety, and the importance of discovering them. He also gives a ton of coping and management techniques, and talks about his experiences with anxiety medication. In the third and final section, Hahn talks about anxiety as it relates to Scripture and spirituality. He talks about the common Biblical misinterpretations of the words "anxiety" and "worry". People like to tell us Bible verses telling us not to worry, which is great and all, but it doesn't change anything, since we aren't making the decision to panic or be anxious in the first place, the problem is in our DNA. When we panic, we often don't even know why or what caused it; it just happens. The worry and anxiety that the Bible most often talks about is worries about everyday things, not anxiety disorders. Hahn gives examples of Biblical support for people who do suffer with anxiety disorders, and what the Bible really says about them. I gave this book 5/5 stars, and it is something that I would definitely recommend to anyone, Christian or non-Christian, who suffers from or knows someone who suffers from an anxiety or panic disorder. Lance Hahn is such a wonderful person to hear all of this from. He doesn't just rattle off some Bible verses and tell us to just cheer up, as happens way too often. Hahn really understand anxiety and that having the condition isn't our fault. He writes with such a caring and friendly voice, it's like getting help from a close friend. He shows us that we are not alone. I really enjoyed this book, and it was extremely helpful. I read this as an ebook, which I found to be really helpful because I could highlight important passages and things that really helped or stood out to me that I can easily find again later. Personally, I am morally against writing it physical copies of books, I know it helps but I just can't do it, so having the ebook allowed me to highlight and take notes, what definitely came in handy throughout the reading of this book. If you read this book, I highly recommend highlighting and note taking.HeidiMarie

It is natural to be gripped by fear at various times throughout our lives. Messianic Rabbi Schneider offers personal descriptions of his worst fears and how he overcame them. Fear is the instinctive perception of danger and our escape route is through God. The author shares how fear can paralyze us and prevent us from moving forward in life. I had been looking for a devotional journal for some time. I was so happy to receive this. It really is a beautiful book. Very inspirational writings that are comforting to read, and allows the perfect amount of space to record your thoughts. The description states it's hard cover. Although not a flimsy paper cover, I don't know that I would consider it a hard cover as with most books. I'm really enjoying it, and I would definitely recommend it.NativeNewYorker

Wall street journal best-selling author jon acuff reveals the steps to getting unstuck and back onto the path of being awesome.over the last 100 years, the road to success for most everyone has been divided into five stages that mirror the decades of working life: there are only two paths in life: average and awesome. the average path is easy because all you have to do is nothing. the awesome path is more challenging because things like fear only bother you when you do work that matters. the good news is start gives readers practical, honest and actionable insights to be more awesome, more often.it's time to punch fear in the face, escape average, and do work that matters.it's time to start.
Reviews:
I'm a single mom, from a smaller town, who has spent more time than most in my hometown and age group focused on my career. I never wanted to be average, though I knew I'd never be famous or a billionaire. In my life, I have been made to feel apologetic about the emphasis I've put on career and not being just "average". I now realize, I simply started sooner than most in this area and have been at this longer, so I've accomplished quite a bit and usually have several outlets of work if ever I need them. I've shifted a lot in my life and career because of circumstance and drive. And now, after reading even just 1/3 of this book, I have some validation that these shifts are "okay". It really does feel like treading water in a river with a strong current sometimes; the current being the obstacles and fear that anchor a person to being "average". A book like this is light to an otherwise confusing whirlpool of daily life. So, to Jon, thank you! And, to Dave Ramsey, thank you for the ripples that edged this book my way! About the book… I didn't know Jon Acuff prior to reading Start. I don't read a lot, but this one has really great flow. Jon is a great writer who approaches his explanations in a very relatable way. He has a gift for that, actually. I'm wondering how someone still sort of young can know so much about these phases we all are prone to. That type of knowledge typically comes with direct experience I believe. Jon clearly has the gift of empathy, and can take the experience of others and translate it in a way that becomes relative to those who read his words. There's nothing vague or lacking in authenticity because he's absorbed his accounts of people and their experiences and turned them into meaning without losing the intimacy of experience itself. I really like that. If you need some guidance and encouragement to start something, a change, in your life, read this book. If you're looking for some validation of the phases you're experiencing, reading this book. If you haven't read anything in a while, like me, but want to start with something very purpose-driven, READ THIS BOOK! I appreciate Jon's writing style and humor. It's been a timely find. I got this book at a great deal from Dave's site during Christmas season 2015. Best $10 I've spent in a while!

Read the book, & again & when you feel you've read enough, read it again…. Now replace the word "Read" with "Surrender" You must remember to use Gabriel's powerful sweet loving voice of truth to survive this entire book, because its about her inner work, her journey, you are going to feel everything that she went through & you are going to realise how hard it was for her yet how easy Gabby makes our issues in our own lives feel. . . the miracle is in you, now do the work in the book.Lucky lunastar
Easy and enjoyable, I read it in just a few days. The exercises are in a different font, and each chapter has a summary at the end, which is brilliant. Follows the idea that everything that happens to you is your own fault (which is actually very empowering), but in a very different way from 'The Diamond Cutter'. Are they both right? This book doesn't acknowledge karma, or the need to help other people for your own success: the Universe is trying to make us all successful all the time, if you just let it. It reminded me a little of those friends who you try to meet up with and they say they will turn up "If it is Allah's will". Though I was confused at times whether you should just sit back and let the Universe do its thing, or whether you should try to override it with your own desires. She gives an example of how she couldn't get pregnant (and we never find out if she does or not), but then realises she has to write the desire and put it in her "Holy triangle" or "God box" for it to work… I'm sure billions of pregnancies have been conceived without need for this tool – this was too much of a stretch for me. A fascinating philosophy, much of it I can intuitively relate to, and with the highly useful ways of letting go of judgement etc., incredibly worthwhile so you can control what happens to you by fixing yourself (remove the plank in your own eye before the speck in your brother's eye…). A real eye-opener how clueless I'd been! The idea is to co-create with the Universe. It quotes a lot from 'A Course in Miracles'. There end up being quite a lot of prayers and mantras etc. you need to do every day, so it feels quite a bit more derived than eg. Eckhart Tolle. This book has made me a better person, it's uplifting and I'm glad I read it. You should read it too 🙂Joey
This book gives you Gabrielle Bernstein's real life examples but not too many to the point where the book is all about her. It provides a clear guide & tools on how to transform fear into faith. My advice would be to not read this book commuting to work as there is a lot of meditation that flows throughout the book so it is nice to read this on a day where you have space and time to read and follow the meditations as they come up.Tori
