This was fun to work through with on my own and with my wife. Illustrations are so colorful and detailed with kooky character designs that really are enjoyable to look at. Twenty puzzles are plenty to make this unique puzzle book worth the purchase. However, some murder or finder puzzles are so difficult, even with a hint, that it took several hours over a couple nights before I gave up and looked at the solution (this is with the help of 2 or 3 people too). This contrasts with some that are too easy and can be solved in a couple minutes. I think what could have helped balance the difficulty of the more challenging ones was to include more details in the set-up stories. The hints were only helpful in some instances but most of the time they didn't help me to get started if I was really stuck. #sweepstakesfocuspocus
I love mysteries that you can actually solve so was excited to order this book. The stories are very entertaining. I didn't realize that the mysteries are solved using the illustrations and not the text. It makes it unique but I would prefer having clues in both text and illustrations. There are so many typos in this manual that I'm wondering if it's a copy rather than an original. How can something this well read not have had these corrected by now? Did no-one prof read it? Easily one typo per page. Every (except for headings for some reason) time 'orc' occurs in the manual it's printed as 'ore'. But there are lots and lots of other typos and weird corrupted words. I can nearly always work out what the intent of the sentence was but it's surprising that SO MANY errors made it to print. That said it's a good manual, sturdy hard-back construction. A few things could be explained better but all in all still worth purchasing, unless there is a newer edition or re-print available in which case (assuming the errors have been fixed) I'd recommend getting that edition instead.ablac-8
It's all here for creating characters for the most famous role-playing game. It seems like such a time commitment to play a game like this. Even as a teenager it was hard to find others to commit to playing (just reading the rules is a big commitment!). But for me the books are a beautiful nostalgia trip (I played D&D in the 80s) and fun just to read. Maybe I'll convince people to play with me one of these days!Micah M
This is probably my favorite edition of D&D yet. Gone are 4e's miniature combat focus and the abusability of 3e/3.5e, 5e is a refreshing journey back to 2e sensibilities while also acknowledging the advancements pen and paper RPGs have made over the years. One of the hall marks of this newest system is the notion of bounded accuracy which is this design notion to keep numbers from bloating and instead uses a system of advantage and disadvantage (roll 2d20, taking higher or lower result respectively). This also helps keep the need for a constant stream of magic items to a minimum that tended to plague higher level play in 4e, making the ones you do get really exciting. In an attempt to streamline the rules and breath some simplicity back into the game, this edition is plagued at times by muddled wording. The action economy we've grown used to between 3.5/Pathfinder/4e is more or less still there, but the language around is awkward as the writers seem to be trying to acknowledge it's still there. As with any system, there's a ton of debate over certain ambiguous wording of abilities, feats, spells, etc. but this edition does a great job of reinforcing the role of the DM and letting people play the way they want to play. While the newest edition of D&D is on the pricier side, the book itself is beautiful and you can tell where they can get off on charging a bit more. This is certainly one of the best illustrated rule books I've ever seen.Sir L

this is a gift from my son for Christmas. I had already watched the series on HBO but my husband had not. He has been watching the cd recordings and asking me questions about what he is watching. it seems as if this set is not exactly like the series and that a lot of it has been skipped. It is very disjointed. it goes from one cd to the next with a lot of content missing. this is true for all seasons. one example is where the dragon queen goes into the fire with the eggs and comes out with 3 dragons and not burned. the fight where the mountain is killed, does not show but next cd shows the imp on the run for killing the king. nothing shown for any of that.corriennee1
Got the product and it’s in good condition the only issue is that it is NOT the paperback I thought it would be… this set is of the mass market GOT books, not regular paperback. The only difference is the mass market is smaller book sizes. I’m was initially annoyed but I can deal with it since I have pretty small hands and can handle the more compressed text. I’m just bothered that no where does it say that this set is the mass market box set… also this mass market set is actually pricier than compared to the other mass market sets available… the only reason I will be giving this product 3 stars is because the shipping was quick and the product came undamaged. I heard all the hype about the show, and was unsurprised to find the tv series not so spectacular… Usually if everybody likes something, it's not good. To appeal to the average, you must alienate the discerning, and the show was no exception. I came across the first book in the series at a book sale for .25 cents, so I gave it a read…and loved it. I'm now into the second, and it's just as good! I'm a fan of Tolkien, and I think it's fair to say that Martin is in the same league. This is a well written, well thought out history of a fantasy realm, populated by peoples often paralleling our present planet. The nomadic Dothraki with their Khal (suggests the Khalif of Islamic history), the Caucasian, bearded Northmen (Anglo warriors of old)- this is a fantasy world but feels very familiar and real. The story quickly immerses you in this world of Martin's making, with rich detail and masterful writing. This collection of novels is wonderful, and will surely stand as a classic work of fiction. I find myself dreading to finish, this is one story you don't want to reach the conclusion of. Alas, it must end, as all tales do!dgugs401
