Reviews:
I bought this book while my baby was going through the dreaded 4 month sleep regression and have found it useful. I can’t say I’ve used any of the gentle sleep training bits but it has definitely helped me feel more confident about what I’m doing. The explanations behind behaviours is fantastic and has helped me immensely. I’m not saying this is a quick fix book but it has absolutely helped me get through some tough nights. I think it has really informed my overall view on “sleep training”, what my baby “should” be doing and how we view babies sleep overall. I would recommend it to anyone worried about sleep or struggling with getting their little one(s) to sleep.Laura
Reading this book really put my mind at ease that what I was going through with my baby was normal. It reaffirmed my belief in a gentle parenting approach when pesky doubt crept in. Thank you Sarah! xvikkip2802
I'm a huge fan of Sarah Ockwell Smith and her evidence based explanation of sleep patterns and advice on how to fix common sleep issues. I often go back and re-read a section when an issue arises or to remind myself of why a particular issue may be occurring. I would highly recommend this book and all of Sarah's books.Whitebread87

Reviews:
An easy to follow book, that I found helpful to cope with the ups and downs of raising a young child.supanova82
At last… I found a book on parenting that I can identify with and that makes sense to me. If only all parents had the chance to read it and could learn that there are other ways of relating to our children. I wish I'd found it sooner (when I was pregnant). I'd recommend it to everyone.**emma-emily**
Good book to read for parenting 0-7 year olds if you want to follow a more gentle pathvickharri_4

Product Details:
In this book, the preeminent child psychologist of our time gives us the results of his lifelong effort to determine what is most crucial in successful child-rearing. his purpose is not to give parents preset rules for raising their children, but rather to show them how to develop their own insights so that they will understand their own and their children's behavior in different situations and how to cope with it. above all, he warns, parents must not indulge their impulse to try to create the child they would like to have, but should instead help each child fully develop into the person he or she would like to be.

5. Cribsheet: A Data-Driven Guide To Better, More Relaxed Parenting, From Birth To Preschool [Book]
Product Details:
From the author of expecting better and the family firm, an economist's guide to the early years of parenting.“ both refreshing and useful. by digging into the data, oster found that much of the conventional pregnancy wisdom was wrong. in cribsheet, she now tackles an even greater challenge: decision-making in the early years of parenting. from the earliest days, parents get the message that they must make certain choices around feeding, sleep, and schedule or all will be lost. there's a rule—or three—for everything. but the benefits of these choices can be overstated, and the trade-offs can be profound. how do you make your own best decision? armed with the data, oster finds that the conventional wisdom doesn't always hold up. she debunks myths around breastfeeding (not a panacea), sleep training (not so bad!), potty training (wait until they're ready or possibly bribe with m&ms), language acquisition (early talkers aren't necessarily geniuses), and many other topics. she also shows parents how to think through freighted questions like if and how to go back to work, how to think about toddler discipline, and how to have a relationship and parent at the same time. economics is the science of decision-making, and cribsheet is a thinking parent's guide to the chaos and frequent misinformation of the early years. emily oster is a trained expert—and mom of two—who can empower us to make better, less fraught decisions—and stay sane in the years before preschool.
Reviews:
Having also read Emily Oster's previous book on pregnancy, Expecting Better, I was keen to read her data-driven follow up on child rearing. Oster does a great job of quickly and succinctly presenting relevant data (or pointing out a lack there of) for topics such as breastfeeding, stay-at-home parents, and reaching milestones. This book won't tell you how to raise your child, but it will provide evidence to help you make more informed decisions.Sally
Loved both her books – easy-to-read no-nonsense style and great data. I do wish Id read this BEFORE having our baby.rebeccab519

Reviews:
Simplicity Parenting helps parents to understand and clarify what's going on around our kids that every parent can relate to when described so well. Children are under seige from marketing of toys and products that have ridiculous claims for our children. This book helps to understand the world we live in where every company is out for themselves and compete for this huge market they have found with children. Easy reading, written very well, lots of ideas for parents.pumperhighpressure
I always *want* to be the reading type, but I truthfully never have/ make time to actually sit down and read. The reality of me ever finishing a book is pretty much zero. However, this book is SO important, and so full of very helpful and easily doable things that make a WORLD of a difference in our home and for our kids. I want to give it to every parent I know. I want to send copies to my friends who don't even have kids yet so they can learn these things before they are trying to "fix" these things. I'm obsessed with this book. I could write a book on how much I love this book. This is a super simple and straight forward read. No complicated literary BS or technical jargon. Buy this book and really read it. It's not just filled knowledge, it's a detailed step- by- step guide to making everyone's life in your house so much less stressful and more enjoyable. Seriously. Read it, with a highlighter in hand, because you'll want to use so much in this this book, reflect and meditate on it. It's so simple and easy. Thank me later.Kayleigh k.
Brilliant book, borrowed it from the library, just had to have get my very own copy. After 30 years of parenting, I cant recommend this book highly enough, it is honestly the best book on how to raise children. It will make you mindful about many everyday things in our lives, television, marketing aimed at children, children needing to remain children, excessive toys, extra curriculum. This is truly a parents bible.

13. The Explosive Child: A New Approach For Understanding And Parenting Easily Frustrated, Chronically Inflexible Children [Book]
Product Details:
The ones who completely lose control and become verbally and physically aggressive. spoiled, stubborn, manipulative children, right? not so fast. these labels suggest that the behavior of such children is planned and intentional, and popular reward-and-punishment strategies are typically used to teach and motivate them to behave more appropriately. but for a significant number of these children, the standard approach doesn't always work. such children are easily frustrated and extremely inflexible. they get "stuck" over seemingly simple requests, benign issues, and sudden changes in plans. they may be very anxious, irritable, and volatile. they may have difficulty telling you what they're frustrated about or thinking through potential solutions to problems. in clinical terms, they may be diagnosed with any of a variety of psychiatric disorders, including oppositional-defiant disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (adhd), tourette's disorder, depression, and bipolar disorder, if this sounds like your child, you're probably feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, guilt-ridden, exhausted, and hopeless.drawing upon recent advances in the neuro-sciences, dr. greene describes the factors that contribute to "inflexible-explosive" behavior in children and why the strategies that work for most children aren't as effective for inflexible-explosive children. then, with the help of "snapshots" from the lives of children, parents, and teachers with whom he has worked over the years, dr. greene lays out a sensitive, practical, effective, systematic approach to helping these children at home and school, including: reducing hostility and antagonism between the child and adults; anticipating situations in which the child is most likely to explode; creating an environment in which explosions are less likely to occur; focusing less on reward and punishment and more on communication and collaborative problem-solving; and helping the child develop the self-regulation and thinking skills to be more flexible and handle frustration more adaptively.

Reviews:
This book is an absolute MUST READ for any parent who knows there is an issue with their child and has been told by society that the child is naughty or they are not doing a good job as parents. This statement sounds a bit cynical but if you have ever wanted a clear cut explanation that your child is part of a wide, but relatively closed community of other children in similar situations of utter frustration with their world, this is the book that will open the doors to solutions for you! I bought this book after 9 years of being told I was a bad parent. This book was so hard to read at first because it showed me that I was finally not the only one with an unpredictable and explosive child now heading for teenage stages. It shows how to understand the world that your children are living in, and how to adjust your own world to be harmonious with theirs, as you can never change their world, only help them to adjust to it and then develop the skills needed to live in the socially acceptable world. Best book ever to start the journey from dysfunctional and desperate to those happy, well adjusted families you see on the street and feel jealous over!bromsnq
Great book! We've got an 11-year-old boy going on 4 and 14. Although he is not as extreme as some of the examples, this book provided me with some helpful hints to dealing with our son. He has always been a sensitive guy, given to tantrums and great angst, and his fury is let loose on us too often. I'm willing to see my part in this, too. But I can't help feeling that this is just his nature from the start. This book helps me to recognize some of his behaviors, suggests ways of compromising to help him learn to deal with things better, and helps me to know I'm not the only one out there with this situation. Some kids truly are more explosive than others!blueskis

I need clarity, this book doesn't provide it. The author whilst sincere lacks directiob.Bob
This is a good book – great ideas – but it is TINY so I felt it was overpriced.
This is the shortest book I have read about parenting and certainly one of the most helpful. Rosenberg manages to consilidate many vital ideas about parenting within its 20 or so pages. A great book for those who would struggle through something longer. For some its ideas may be a paridigm shift for others a way to support respectful parenting.

This book provided good insite into an area many people (me included) naturally assume is simple…..it is not. Taking off my parent/child hat and replacing it with my parent/adult child is way more important than I realized. This book helped me open my eyes. To sum up this book: "Open door…..closed mouth".davicoug
The documented stories listed by the writer. I feel that along with author's insight they gave more valuable information on dealing with family and friends when confrontations occur.chigger58
16. Out Of Control: Why Disciplining Your Child Doesn't Work And What Will [Book]
Product Details:
Every parent wants the golden key to raising well-behaved, academically gifted, successful, happy children. embedded in our collective psyche is the notion that discipline is the cornerstone to achieving these goals. this book lambasts this notion, offering a never-before-published perspective on why the entire premise of discipline is flawed. shefali tsabary shows that the very idea of discipline is a major cause of generations of dysfunction. the key is ongoing meaningful connection between parent and child, free of head games such as threats, deprivation, punishment, timeoutsindeed, all forms of manipulation. parents learn how to enter into deep communion with their children, understanding the reasons for a behavior and how to bring out the best in the child. far from a laissez-faire anything goes approach, this is how a child learns responsibility and takes ownership of their life, equipped with character and resilience that flow naturally from within.
Reviews:
What Dr. Shefali writes in this book really resonates with me and using her advice really helps create a beautiful bond with my 11 year old son. We just really have a connection and have fun (of course butting heads at times too :). Great read and I especially enjoyed her latest book, "The Awakened Family". She's a great writersimplymagic

I am a grandfather looking for a way to help with my grandchild. I wish to help raise him differently than I did my own 3 daughters. I was too emotional when discipling and I feel it often came out as 'over-discipling'. So this book is really helping me see better ways to create healthier discipline with my family. Great book.jeremiahdirt-dot-com
