Ive only made the very first breakfast shake and it was yummy. Through my searching I see that this diet is also good for gluten intolerance and gall bladder problems. I like how the recipes are big enough for at least two servings (or more).cajun-stitches-n-britches
This book was very helpful with detailed information about Hashimoto's Disease. The meal plan was a bit hard to continue to follow due to it being quite time intensive. The recipes I tried were really tasty and healthy.Melody
I know the title indicates that this book is for the newly diagnosed, but I was first diagnosed with it in 1976 and have never found this info before! Through the years since then I developed a couple of other autoimmune diseases as well. I mention this because if the info in this book had been available to me I might not have developed them. In reading this book I find things that are useful to a number of people I know who do not carry a thyroid diagnosis and therefore have been treated for the very symptoms delineated here but with other kinds of pharmaceuticals. The first and most important step in outmaneuvering this autoimmune disease is doing an elimination diet. Allergy sufferers are all too familiar with this torture but I have not heard anyone describe the process in such helpful detail. The author takes one by the hand in the grocery store and the kitchen to learn what, why, and how. Then come the meal plans and recipes (TASTY). Coordination with a dietitian can come whenever available or desired and with a physician as needed. EXCELLENT resource. I requested and received a free ebook copy from Callisto Media/Rockridge Press via NetGalley and then purchased a permanent copy.jT

Reviews:
This very informative book details the author's journey to find and be treated for this disgusting autoimmune disease which has pretty much devastated the females in her family. Detailing her experiences and learning gives credence to all she has learned and advice to readers. This is not some dry, scholarly piece which does not affect the author or reader, but is a reflexion and teaching tool for those of us who battle the conventional medical community. Where am I coming from on this? I am an RN for many years, Dx with alopecia after the birth of Thing 3, and Dx with Hashimoto's more than a year later. Despite having been diagnosed, I have had no support from the medical community during flares of the disease, and this book has shown me a better dietary way to improve quality of life for me and others. By using herself/family as examples, she has detailed for patients how to motivate busy medical practitioners to find the correct Dx and Rx for themselves, as well as demonstrating the hows and whys of determining the dietary course of action to implement change with or without the assistance of Rx medication. This book was provided by the author or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of NetGalley.jT

11. Living Well With Hypothyroidism Rev Ed: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You… That You Need To Know [Book]
Product Details:
The most comprehensive resource available on the diagnosis and treatment of hypothyroidism for millions of americans, hypothyroidism often goes untreated … or is treated improperly. this book, thoroughly researched by the nation's top thyroid patient advocate—a hypothyroidism patient herself—provides you with answers to all your questions, including: what is hypothyroidism? what are the warning signs, symptoms, and risk factors? why is getting diagnosed often a challenge, and how can you overcome the obstacles? what treatments are available (including those your doctor hasn't told you about)? which alternative and holistic therapies, nutritional changes, and supplements may help treat hypothyroidism?
Reviews:
Comprehensive book with lots of information that could complement mainstream treatment for a thyroid problem. Quite a lot to take on board and better kept handy to use for frequent referencing.
A good book on understanding hypothyroidism. There are many I would recommend and this is one. Anyone with hypothyroidism should educate themselves, dont depend on doctors totally. The thyroid is complex in ways and is the engine of the whole system. Its very important to the workings of the body and the mind. Many doctors seem so behind on new information, TSH testing, natural thyroid, etc. And they are close minded, arrogant and think you are a know it all. (Actually no one knows their own body and what it feels like and what is working or not working than yourself!) I dont think they continue to keep up with thyroid learning past medical school so you have to study it for yourself. (Yes, I understand they are busy!) Stop the thyroid change and Stop the thyroid Madness are also good sources for helping yourself (and doctors) So many people are not treated adequately for their thyroid and continue to suffer so I read. Knowledge is power.dianaartista

12. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: Lifestyle Interventions For Finding And Treating The Root Cause, 2nd Edition (Wentz Izabella)(Paperback)
Product Details:
What's really going on in hashimoto's? this new york times bestseller is the result of three years of research and two years of testing by dr. izabella wentz, a clinical pharmacist who was diagnosed with hashimoto's in 2009. she combined emerging research with clinical expertise to identify and remove the triggers that caused her to develop hashimoto's. you may have heard that thyroid medications are the only treatment option for people with hashimoto's and hypothyroidism, and that there is no way to halt or reverse the autoimmune process once it starts. hashimoto's thyroiditis: the root cause dispels that myth and shows how targeted lifestyle interventions allow the body to rebalance and halt the autoimmune process allowing the thyroid to recover. hashimoto's is more than just hypothyroidism. most patients with hashimoto's will present with acid reflux, nutrient deficiencies, anemia, intestinal permeability, food sensitivities, gum disorders and hypoglycemia in addition to the "typical" hypothyroid symptoms such as weight gain, cold intolerance, hair loss, fatigue and constipation. the body becomes stuck in a vicious cycle of immune system overload, adrenal insufficiency, gut dysbiosis, impaired digestion, inflammation, and thyroid hormone release abnormalities. this cycle is self-sustaining and will continue causing more and more symptoms until an external factor intervenes and breaks the cycle apart. the lifestyle interventions discussed in this book aim to dismantle the vicious cycle piece by piece. in this updated printing of a book that has sold more than 80,000 copies since 2013, dr. wentz shares her dig-at-it approach, a systematic method that helps to identify triggers, as well as a healing protocol that tackles the triggers.

14. Hypothyroidism [Book]
Product Details:
Of all the problems that can affect physical or mental health, none is more common than thyroid gland disturbance. none is more readily and inexpensively corrected. and none is more often untreated, and even unsuspected. – hypothyroidism — low thyroid function — is one of the gland disturbances that many people suffer from without even realizing it. it can be the cause of low energy or constant fatigue that is one of the most common complaints brought to doctors. it may be responsible for chronic headaches, repeated infections, unyielding skin problems, or circulatory difficulties. even more frightening, it can be a major factor in heart disease, lung cancer, and emphysema. and it is responsible for many emotional and mental disturbances. hypothyroidism: the unsuspected illness explains low thyroid function in easy, understandable language. it tells how it may be affecting your health and your life. – dr. broda barnes and lawrence galton tell what the thyroid gland is, how it works, the problems its dysfunction can induce. they detail case histories of patients, often thought hopeless, whose problems were discovered to be related to hypothyroidism and were cured by dr. barnes's simple effective techniques. and they discuss whether you too may be hypothyroid, affected by a condition even a physician may not recognize. – included is a simple test you can make at home to discover if hypothyroidism may be the real, previously unsuspected cause of your ill health. – if you know you are hypothyroid, hypothyroidism: the unsuspected illness will answer your questions about your condition. if you suspect you maybe, if you are unsure what may be causing those chronic headaches, infections, fatigue and low energy, it may help you find the answer.

Reviews:
The book wasn't anything like I had hoped it would be I was looking for an explanation as to what the thyroids functions are, why its failed and what advice I could use to get a gp to actually listen, followed by a step by step 90 day plan to follow with what I was expecting to be detailed with meals planning and shopping list and any supplements like they do in other health books. There was no plan. just one page to say lemon water first thing then green juice fruit n veg snack salad for lunch another veg snack or turmeric tea and a dinner of organic meat and veg. The author refers to her first book a lot so if you aren't familier with it you have no idea of what shes talking about. She refers a lot to how she made her own diagnosis and her clients testomoines to say they followed her plan and had great experience. I myself was disappointed and wouldn't recommendmenghc2
I haven't finished reading Hashimoto's Protocol yet, but I am excited to feel like there is hope and a solution to addressing thyroid issues that have drastically altered my daughter's life for the past ten years and mine recently since I have other autoimmune diseases. The writing style is clear and engaging. I am grateful that finally our medical system will be forced to change from a big pharma approach to finding root causes and actually changing the outcomes of patients's lives. Until you encounter medical professionals promising to find answers and then walking away from that promise because they can't "check their boxes", you don't understand the devastation our medical system creates in people's lives. I appreciate the honesty and hope this book brings to what we have endured for over ten years in our family. Thank you Izabella Wentz for stepping forward to promote real education and life change!Rachel
Hashimoto's Protocol (as well as Dr. Wentz's other book, The Root Cause) is leaps and bounds ahead of what any practitioner has relayed to me throughout my experience with Hashimoto's. With the information in her first book I was able to get my antibodies down into "normal" on the reference range. I cannot stress enough: SHE GAVE ME MY LIFE BACK. I'm so excited to start implementing the knowledge she has imparted on her readers in the latest book. The book is easy to read (it's not like a textbook), yet there is so much helpful information – Dr. Wentz stays up-to-date on the latest studies and medical research, which is rare in medicine these days. It's divided into fundamental protocols (where you can get the most bang for your buck) and advanced protocols (most effective after addressing the fundamental problems you may have). The protocols have assessments that help you individualize your approach. If you or loved one have thyroid disease, there is history of the disease in your family or you have any autoimmune disease this book can help you. Any endocrinologists, primary care physicians and alternative practitioners should read this as well – you can help your patients more than you even know!Julia
