Finally, a make sense approach to eating. This book and its philosophy are used in eating disorder clinics and by those who treat people with eating disorders. Personally I'm a binger and this book has given me a new approach and a sense of control. It was recommended by one of contestants on American Idol. Simon Cowell told her "you are too fat". After a long time bulimia problem she checked herself into an eating disorder clinic in L.A. for the 3 months between her audition and the actual show. That clinic uses Intuitive Eating to help its clients learn to eat. Personally I cannot go on another diet and am ready for a change. This book gives one options that work and make sense.sandy3100

5. Anti-Diet: Reclaim Your Time, Money, Well-Being, And Happiness Through Intuitive Eating [Book]

Product Details:
Reclaim your time, money, health, and happiness from our toxic diet culture with groundbreaking strategies from a registered dietitian, journalist, and host of the food psych podcast. 68 percent of americans have dieted at some point in their lives. but upwards of 90% of people who intentionally lose weight gain it back within five years. and as many as 66% of people who embark on weight-loss efforts end up gaining more weight than they lost. the culprit is diet culture, a system of beliefs that equates thinness to health and moral virtue, promotes weight loss as a means of attaining higher status, and demonizes certain ways of eating while elevating others. it's sexist, racist, and classist, yet this way of thinking about food and bodies is so embedded in the fabric of our society that it can be hard to recognize. it masquerades as health, wellness, and fitness, and for some, it is all-consuming. in anti-diet, christy harrison takes on diet culture and the multi-billion-dollar industries that profit from it, exposing all the ways it robs people of their time, money, health, and happiness. it will turn what you think you know about health and wellness upside down, as harrison explores the history of diet culture, how it's infiltrated the health and wellness world, how to recognize it in all its sneaky forms, and how letting go of efforts to lose weight or eat "perfectly" actually helps to improve people's health–no matter their size. drawing on scientific research, personal experience, and stories from patients and colleagues, anti-diet provides a radical alternative to diet culture, and helps readers reclaim their bodies, minds, and lives so they can focus on the things that truly matter.
Reviews:
I read this at the library and was familiar with the subject. Diet culture permeates so many aspects of our lives.I only wish it was okay to be something other than stick thin. That seems to be the image of beautiful.Theresa

Reviews:
I've read numerous books on the subject of "normal" eating. This book attracted my attention because it is written by two registered dieticians. It's a wonderful resource for anyone feeling obsessed about food, body image and dieting. Compulsive eating is discussed in a sensible manner. Believe me that you won't ever want to diet again after reading about how much you hurt your body physically and spiritually each time you go on a diet! One thing I didn't like about this book is the last chapter on nutrition. The authors actually recommend low fat or fat free foods as part of a nutritious meal plan- That's poor advice to give to someone trying NOT to diet! I just ignored that bit of advice. Easy to understand, practical advice for everyone on how to eat wisely.ciphi-31
This book is amazing for anyone who has dieted in the past or anyone who is interested in building a healthier relationship with food. The book is a little anachronistic but the ideas are certainly still applicable today. The book is lighthearted but serious. A great, insightful read.lrho1661
