Reviews:
This book is a wonderful reference for the medieval scholar as well as an avid lover of Arthurian legend. The text is set perfectly for the purpose of research, so it is well-suited for college students/professors. The only complaint could be based on the date of publication, but I find that older books have more quality and are closer to the original primary text.birdschminke
4. Avalon: The Return Of King Arthur [Book]
Product Details:
The hour fortold has come at last! edward the ninth, reprobate king of england, is dead and a proud an venerable institution is to be buried with him. a new political orderencouraged by an ambitious prime minister and supported by a public wearied by a succession of royal scandalsis about to render the old obsolete. with signed abdications of all potential throne claimants already in p.m. thomas waring's hands, it is a near-certainty that the british monarchy will not survive the twenty-first century. but in the scottish highlands, a young man makes a remarkable discovery that will change the seemingly unaltered path of his beleaguered nation. for captain james arthur stuart is not the commoner he has always believed himself to be, but rather the scion of an obscure branch of the royal family, raised in ignorance of his true station. even more astonishing, the monarch-to-be does not merely share the name of the legendary king of summerhe is, in fact, king arthur reborn! claiming a throune, however, is one thing, while holding it is quite another, as jamesnow ruling the land as arthur ii? turns to those most beloved and most loyal for support, guidance, and assistance: his adored wife, jennifer; his best friend, calum; and his enigmantic and mystical advisor, a certain mr. embries. better known as "merlin." their road will be rocky and perilous, and there are powerful enemies arrayed against themnot only prime minister waring and his ruthless political machine, but the forces of an ancient, far more potent, destructive evil. for arthur is not the only one who has returnedand merlin's magic is not the only sorcery that has survived the centuries. with avalon, one of the premier voices in the literature of the fantastic offers us an unparalleled adventure as replete with bravery, treacher, romance, and magic as the beloved tales of the table round, yet cast in a setting as recognizably real as that which surrounds us.
Reviews:
A sequal to the Pendragon series. It features the return of the legendary King Arthur to Great Britian. A good read, but in all honesty a bit of a let down to the series. Read it if you want the conclusion, but you're not missing out by not reading it.
As have been all the S. Lawhead books I have read this one was no different. These are more than just fantasy writing. They are truly works of literiture. Weaving mystery and adventure into a marvelous journey of the Cristian faith. In Avalon he puts forth a legitamate argument for the retaining of the royalty. He also challenges believers to recognise the forces that are at work both with in and without to destroy true faith. It is a great read and I found it hard to put down. By itself it can be read but it is better if read as the conclusion to the Pendragon series.revt54
I love this author and series, however, I received the mass media edition (which was not in the description) so this copy does not match my other books in the series- which is very important to me. I would not have bought this copy if I had know this and will be reselling this copy and buying another one.wcsalis

Reviews:
King Arthur Bakers Companion is much loved by North American home bakers. This is a revised and updated edition; adding new recipes and removing others. It has metric measurements as well as imperial, but uses North American terminology for ingredients. Scant pictures – and I have to say these days I have been spoiled by most cook books having a picture for each recipe, so would have loved more pictures. Lots of great recipes to try. Some are just classic. Some have a North American home baking feel (like Boston cream pie, blueberry buckle)Jo_L
I bought this edition for my amateur baker wife. She's won all sorts of county and state fair ribbons for her entries and she loves the King Arthur flour products, so I thought it was time she own their cookbook. She was delighted!abrechtenterprises

Lover reading about King Arthur.JESSICA
We are reading Le Morte D'Arthur in my Medieval Humanities class. This edition is quite readable and affordable. There are many versions–from Medieval times to the present–of the King Arthur stories. But Thomas Mallory is arguably the best author and compiler of these accounts. For a trade paperback, uncluttered with extras, this is the best edition I have found.Ben

Reviews:
I enjoy reading different "versions" of the King Arthur legend that individual authors write. This book was a wonderfully creative adaptation of the story of the Sword in the Stone. The author borrowed pieces of the legend to tell her own story. The author didn't just tell the "facts" of the story, she made the characters come alive with her descriptions of their personalities and appearance (Morgause's elven locks of hair, for example). She vividly described the locations where the story took place: the landscape, the buildings, even the furniture (Arthur's uncomfortable throne, for example). I enjoyed reading this book. It was an easy read (this book may have been written for young adults, but that wasn't obviously stated, and that certainly didn't detract from it in any way) and I was having so much fun reading it that I found it hard to put down. I'm happy to add this book to my King Arthur collection.momtojandd
This is a good story. The characters and story line are easy to follow. It has a little mystery and magic. I recommend this book for anyone who likes a good story. This is one of my favorite books.

My 6yr old son asks for this over and over. A lovely story (and not too long for the reader either) with beautiful detailed illustrations on every page. A joy to read aloud. It contains it all, knights, princesses, bravery, love and honour. A real treasure to enjoy over and over.
As for a used book it was in great condition. Nothing was marked on, there was a small tear that was easily fixed and the pages weren't yellowed. Good stuff.stainbl_12

The attractive colourful cover makes you want to pick this up. The size of the guide is ideal for those who might be put off by a lengthy tome. Well laid out to make reading enjoyable and with a wealth of colour photos and illustrations. The short articles made this guide practical to read in short sessions without losing the thread. I thoroughly enjoyed it.j9sshop4home
