Reviews:
This volume on anarchism from Black Rose Press, collecting together numerous pieces from anarchists throughout history and across the globe, is a wonderful and comprehensive book. Going back as far as 300C.E. to China, it charts the rise and spread of anarchist ideas through a myriad number of primary documents from the main thinkers of anarchism. There appears the more prominent figures of Bakunin and Kropotkin, with the lesser known anarchists of Japan, such as Osugi Sakae, and other Asian countries. A great achievement, demonstrating the global impact of anarchism, and the degree to which it remains a living tradition of radical action and thought.
2. The Austro-Libertarian Point Of View: Essays On Austrian Economics And Libertarianism [Book]

Product Details:
This book covers several areas of economic theory and political philosophy from the perspective of austrian economics and libertarianism. as such, it deals with epistemology and methodology, microeconomics, macroeconomics, labor economics, international economics, political philosophy, law and public policy, all from the austro-libertarian perspective. – hence, this book offers an integrated view of libertarianism and austrian economics in the light of recent debates in the areas of economic science and political philosophy. moreover, it builds from the foundations of the austrian approach (epistemology and methodology), while the latter material deals with its application to the individual from the microeconomic perspective, which in turn allows an exploration of subjects in macroeconomics. additionally, this work applies austro-libertarianism to law, politics, and public policy. thus, it offers a unified view of the entire approach, in a logical progression, allowing the readers to judge this perspective in full. – futerman and block say that their book is not a manual, which i suppose it is not. but it is a collection of highly pertinent essays, from which you can understand what is mistaken in the orthodoxy of economics, law, and politics. the central term of art in austrian economics is that phrase “human action.” it is the exercise of human will, not the blind bumping of one molecule against another or one organism against another, as in the physical sciences… futerman and block distinguish austrian economics as a scientific enterprise based on liberty of the will from “libertarianism” as an advocacy based on policies implied by such liberty. “although austrian economics is positive and libertarianism is normative,” they write, “this book shows how both are related; how each can support the other.” indeed they do. – deirdre n. mc – closkey, ph – duic distinguished professor of economics and of history emerita, professor of english emerita, professor of communication emerita, university of illinois at chicago

4. All Rise!: The Libertarian Way With Judge Jim Gray [Book]

Product Details:
What do libertarians believe that sets them apart from other political parties? how do libertarian values, approaches and principles result in more successful "pursuits of happiness" than the approaches of other political parties? and how does judge jim gray dare to say that the libertarians are the only political party in the mainstream of american political thought today? the libertarian way with judge jim gray will answer all of these questions and more – to your complete satisfaction! judge gray reveals how liberty is intertwined in our country's genes, taking us all the way back to when the pilgrims first landed on plymouth rock. unfolds alongside judge gray's life and upbringing and explores the experiences that spurred his path toward independent thought. the voices of those closest to him are materialized in exclusive interviews, revealing a rare and nuanced look at judge gray throughout various points in his life. how did judge gray, a former congressional candidate and member of the finance committee of the republican party of orange county, california lean into libertarianism in only 13 seconds? see how he has been an involved and passionate member of the libertarian party ever since that whip-quick decision, and travel with him through his subsequent campaigns as a libertarian for us senate in 2004, vice president in 2012 and president in 2020. join judge gray on his mission to mainstream the word libertarian – not simply the word, but the party's values, approaches and principles. direct and frontal attacks on our freedoms and liberties are unacceptable, and judge gray's platform offers an antidote to the continual trespassing of an overzealous government on its citizens. also demonstrates how government has failed to run economies throughout history, and how it is failing to perform under today's duress, which will leave a legacy of debt to our children and grandchildren! judge gray, a recipient of the 2019 judge franklin g. west lifetime achievement award from the orange county bar association, argues that there is a solution: employ responsibility, and employ liberty! the book includes a foreword by tom campbell, former member of congress from california (1989-1993; 1995-2001), former dean of the haas school of business at the university of california berkeley and the dean of the chapman university school of law.

10. Radicals For Capitalism: A Freewheeling History Of The Modern American Libertarian Movement [Book]

Product Details:
On wall street, in the culture of high tech, in american government: libertarianism—the simple but radical idea that the only purpose of government is to protect its citizens and their property against direct violence and threat— has become an extremely influential strain of thought. but while many books talk about libertarian ideas, none until now has explored the history of this uniquely american movement—where and who it came from, how it evolved, and what impact it has had on our country. in this revelatory book, based on original research and interviews with more than 100 key sources, brian doherty traces the evolution of the movement through the unconventional life stories of its most influential leaders— ludwig von mises, f.a. hayek, ayn rand, murray rothbard, and milton friedman—and through the personal battles, character flaws, love affairs, and historical events that altered its course. and by doing so, he provides a fascinating new perspective on american history—from the new deal through the culture wars of the 1960s to today's most divisive political issues. neither an exposé nor a political polemic, this entertaining historical narrative will enlighten anyone interested in american politics.

11. Libertarians On The Prairie: Laura Ingalls Wilder, Rose Wilder Lane, And The Making Of The Little House Books [Book]

Product Details:
This myth-busting book finally reveals the true story behind the beloved children's classics. – generations of children have fallen in love with the pioneer saga of the ingalls family, of pa and ma, laura and her sisters, and their loyal dog, jack. laura ingalls wilder's little house books have taught millions of americans about frontier life, giving inspiration to many and in the process becoming icons of our national identity. yet few realize that this cherished bestselling series wandered far from the actual history of the ingalls family and from what laura herself understood to be central truths about pioneer life. – in this groundbreaking narrative of literary detection, christine woodside reveals for the first time the full extent of the collaboration between laura and her daughter, rose wilder lane. rose hated farming and fled the family homestead as an adolescent, eventually becoming a nationally prominent magazine writer, biographer of herbert hoover, and successful novelist, who shared the political values of ayn rand and became mentor to roger lea mac – bride, the second libertarian presidential candidate. drawing on original manuscripts and letters, woodside shows how rose reshaped her mother's story into a series of heroic tales that rebutted the policies of the new deal. their secret collaboration would lead in time to their estrangement. a fascinating look at the relationship between two strong-willed women, libertarians on the prairie is also the deconstruction of an american myth. – skyhorse publishing, along with our arcade, good books, sports publishing, and yucca imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs. our list includes biographies on well-known historical figures like benjamin franklin, nelson mandela, and alexander graham bell, as well as villains from history, such as heinrich himmler, john wayne gacy, and o. j. simpson.

13. Anarchy, State, And Utopia [Book]

Product Details:
The foundational text of libertarian thought, named one of the 100 most influential books since world war ii (times literary supplement)first published in response to john rawls' a theory of justice, robert nozick's anarchy, state, and utopia has become a defining text of classic libertarian thought. challenging and ultimately rejecting liberal, socialist, and conservative agendas, nozick boldly asserts that the rights of individuals are violated as a state's responsibilities increase — and that the only way to avoid these violations is the creation of a minimalist state limited to the enforcement of contracts and to protection against force, fraud, and theft.winner of the national book award and translated into over one hundred languages, anarchy, state and utopia remains one of the most theoretically trenchant and philosophically rich defenses of economic liberalism to date. with an introduction by philosopher thomas nagel, this edition brings nozick and his work to today's generation of readers.

14. Libertarianism: What Everyone Needs To Know [Book]

Product Details:
"when cnbc reporter rick santelli angrily called for a 'tea party' from the floor of the chicago mercantile exchange in february 2009, the specific target of his wrath was a new government program to help distressed homeowners with crushing mortgages. yet there was also a more general target: the government's increasing involvement in the economy following the 2008 financial crash. by spring 2009, the state had extended its reach deep into the nation's private banking system, assumed control of a significant portion of the auto industry, and passed a stimulus plan of nearly a trillion dollars. advocates of limited government saw this as disastrous, and santelli's impassioned rant captured their reaction perfectly. santelli was also drawing from an american political tradition with deep roots. popular hostility toward an overweening state extends back to the nation's founding, with critics of the state always seeing it as an enemy of liberty.
15. Hypercapitalism: The Modern Economy, Its Values, And How To Change Them [Book]
Product Details:
"from the bestselling cartoonist of the cartoon history of the universe comes an explosive graphic takedown of capitalism. bestselling "overeducated cartoonist" larry gonick has delighted readers for years with sharp, digestible, and hilarious accounts of everything from the history of the universe to the story of calculus. hypercapitalism is an accessible and pointed cartoon guide to the threats to humans, our society, and the environment posed by the current form of global capitalism. in pointed, profound, and entertaining cartoon narratives, the authors take readers inside the inner workings of the global economy, rendering even the most complex ideas in clear, plain–and sometimes hilarious–terms"–
Reviews:
In graphic novel form, this book attempts nothing less than an accessible explanation of capitalism. It also shows how present-day worship of markets harms a person's well-being and the planet's health. The five commandments of hypercapitalism are: Thou Shalt Consume, Thou Shalt Operate Globally, Thou Shalt Not Regulate, Thou Shalt Spend Less on Labor and Thou Shalt Privatize. How can the average person afford all this consumption when wages have generally stagnated over the past couple of decades? The answer is: credit cards, the overall debt of which is about $700 billion. That does not include student loan debt, which is another trillion dollars. Are obsessed consumers really happier than the average person, or do they get a momentary "high" from their purchase? Is there anything the average person can do about it? Before buying, here are some questions to ask yourself. Can I afford it? Do I need it, or do I want it? Will it improve my life? What company makes it? There are tool banks and seed banks and time banks, where such items can be shared. If your town or neighborhood does not have one, consider starting it. Get to know your local library. It is possible for a business, like an employee-owned business or a non-profit, to be more socially responsible than average. For some people, more direct methods are the way to go. These include boycott/buycott, advocating for a better deal for workers and publicly funded political campaigns or taking to the streets and protesting. This book deserves six stars. It is very easy to read, and does a wonderful job at explaining capitalism, even for those who "hate" capitalism. It also gives a number of alternatives that anyone can adopt. This is extremely highly recommended.plappen
I love books by Larry Gronick. I've read all of his History of the World series as well as some of the science ones too. They are an accessible way for laypersons to get an overview of seemingly difficult subjects such as history, biology, and now with this one – economics. Always well researched, with the extensive bibliography listed in the back for those who want to go deeper.Marie
16. The Ethics Of Liberty [Book]

Product Details:
In recent years, libertarian impulses have increasingly influenced national and economic debates, from welfare reform to efforts to curtail affirmative action. rothbard's classic the ethics of liberty stands as one of the most rigorous and philosophically sophisticated expositions of the libertarian political position. what distinguishes rothbard's book is the manner in which it roots the case for freedom in the concept of natural rights and applies it to a host of practical problems. an economist by profession, rothbard here proves himself equally at home with philosophy. and while his conclusions are radical—that a social order that strictly adheres to the rights of private property must exclude the institutionalized violence inherent in the state—his applications of libertarian principles prove surprisingly practical for a host of social dilemmas, solutions to which have eluded alternative traditions. the ethics of liberty authoritatively established the anarcho-capitalist economic system as the most viable and the only principled option for a social order based on freedom. this edition is newly indexed and includes a new introduction that takes special note of the robert nozick-rothbard controversies.

18. Don't Hurt People And Don't Take Their Stuff: A Libertarian Manifesto [Ebook]

Product Details:
New york times bestsellerin this essential manifesto of the new libertarian movement, new york times bestselling author and president of freedom – don't hurt people and don't take their stuff is a rational yet passionate argument that defends the principles upon which america was founded—principles shared by citizens across the political spectrum. the constitution grants each american the right to self-determination, to be protected from others whose actions are destructive to their lives and property. yet as kibbe persuasively shows, the political and corporate establishment consolidates its power by infringing upon our independence—from taxes to regulations to spying—ultimately eroding the ideals, codified in law, that have made the united states unique in history. – kibbe offers a surefire plan for reclaiming our inalienable rights and regaining control of our lives, grounded in six simple rules: don’t hurt people: free people just want to be left alone, not hassled or harmed by someone else with an agenda or designs over their life and property. – don’t take people’s stuff: america’s founders fought to ensure property rights and our individual right to the fruits of our labors. – take responsibility: liberty takes responsibility. don’t sit around waiting for someone else to solve your problems. – work for it: for every action there is an equal reaction. work hard and you’ll be rewarded. – mind your own business: free people live and let live. – fight the power: thanks to the internet and the decentralization of knowledge, there are more opportunities than ever to take a stand against corrupt authority.

19. For A New Liberty: The Libertarian Manifesto [Book]
Product Details:
A classic that for over two decades has been hailed as the best general work on libertarianism available. rothbard begins with a quick overview of its historical roots, and then goes on to define libertarianism as resting "upon one single axiom: that no man or group of men shall aggress upon the person or property of anyone else." he writes a withering critique of the chief violator of liberty: the state. rothbard then provides penetrating libertarian solutions for many of today's most pressing problems, including poverty, war, threats to civil liberties, the education crisis, and more.
