1. Rooms Of A Mother's Heart: A Sacred Call And An Eternal Purpose [Book]

Product Details:
For thousands of years and in a myriad of cultures, women have forged identity, unconditional love, and vast purpose in the calling of motherhood. from eve to sarah, from ruth to mary, the scriptures are filled with the accounts of the heart of a mother who was given a divine opportunity to raise the next generation for the purposes and call of the father. inside the soul of every mother lies a heart that becomes a repository of sweet memories, hard lessons, glorious victories, ordinary days, glaring failures, and god's grace over the years of mothering. the heart of a mother becomes home to jokes around the dinner table, holiday traditions, the tears of childhood, and the love that only a mother knows. and this tender heart that has given birth to the future of mankind or has lovingly adopted the seeds of the next generation also develops rooms of unsurpassed greatness and quiet strength. these are the rooms of a mother's heart. with her characteristic charm, joy, and biblical teaching that she shares like a good friend over a cup of coffee, carol mcleod examines what it means to be a mother and offers tender encouragement to all women who accept that calling.

Reviews:
Rooms of a Mother's Heart is thoughtfully organized as dedicated chapters in the distinct roles that we play as moms. Carol McLeod did not leave any aspect of being a mom out. She helps celebrate the roles God has placed moms in as well as the impact we can make on future generations. McLeod shares advice for all moms as if she were sitting in the room with you sharing all the wisdom she has acquired along the way. She doesn't do it with a pointy finger judging the way you parent but instead she does it with scripture and practical tips for you to apply to your life right away. I particularly like the appendix full of books that can be explored with your children at varying stages of life. This book would be a marvelous gift for a baby shower. Of course, you will want to add a highlighter because there were so many things that I highlighted to be remembered later. I feel as if this book is encouraging and instructive for moms. I would really recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.A Book A Day
This helpful book would make a great baby shower gift for a new mother as well as useful for those raising children of any age. The author shares insights and lessons learned from her own life, with personal anecdotes illustrating her points, making them easy to understand and relate to. The text contains fifteen chapters, focused on a particular room in a house, from the birthing place to the front porch. Each room represents an area of a mother's heart. Sound advice for nurturing children overflows from each section. Even though my children are raised, I gleaned spiritual wisdom that can be applied to my own life. I wish I'd had such a book when raising my own little ones. I heartily recommend it to every mom and for all church libraries. It would also make a good one to discuss in a group setting. The extensive appendix in the back provides a lengthy list of recommended books for every age level. I totally agree about the importance of reading, especially together in a family. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.MaryAnn

Reviews:
{Why} Motherhood Matters is a book every single mom needs to read and reference many times over during their journey through all the hills, valleys, highs, lows and stages of motherhood! If I could afford to gift every single mom in my life with their own copy, I would–it's that good (I did buy a few to bless friends). September writes in such a way that makes you feel as if you are sitting beside her, listening to her story and lessons learned in her 26 year motherhood journey. She is the mentor and friend every mom wishes she had to help navigate through motherhood and to speak truth in our days. Every single word on every single page spoke directly to my heart. It is as if she knew exactly where I'm at in my personal motherhood journey and just what I needed to hear to know that I'm doing the hard, yet faithful work by staying home to care for my 4 children. The days are most definitely long and mundane, but September reminds us that we are doing Godly work and that it is far more valuable than any other work. Just a few quotes to share from the book. "Motherhood may feel like a sprint, but it is a slow, careful run to the biggest victory plan ever. Roadblocks and defeat will surely come, but He wants us to come forth as gold." ~September McCarthy "Love begins in the home. If you cannot love your family well, then how will you love others?" ~ September McCarthy "Mothers have the power to shift and stabilize the atmosphere of their families and can turn a day right side up or upside down." ~ September McCarthy I filled up many pages of quotes and notes as I devoured the pages of this book. September not only shares her personal stories, but also includes practical advice, resources, parenting principles and prayers throughout the entire book. She writes about marriage, yelling, teaching responsibility, overwhelm, interrupting/whining, serving and much more. I was blessed with an advanced reader's copy in exchange for my honest review.smiliejen
When I began reading {Why} Motherhood Matters, I was expecting a book written for young mothers and ones that still had children at home. But, instead, I was pleasantly surprised! It is written for women in all seasons of motherhood, young and old alike. I am now a grandmother, all of my children are grown and on their own. Yet for my season, {Why} Motherhood Matters was completely relevant and very relatable. The author herself is also a grandmother, and still has younger children at home. September McCarthy has written such a beautiful book. Grace fills every page. She discusses her various seasons of motherhood, lessons learned, and most importantly, what God says about women, mothers and motherhood in His Word. She finishes each chapter with a prayer. Motherhood is not just a period in life, but rather a generation of different seasons and circumstances. September writes about these, and also dreams. Those dreams at the beginning are just a seed, a seed of faith. Then later birthed into reality. September writes so that we would know that motherhood truly matters; it's important because it matters to God. The matters of motherhood are important to God as well. He sees every mother, every woman, gifting her with a mother's heart to nurture and care for those around her. He sees her every season, every step. I very highly recommend {Why} Motherhood Matters. Any woman and every mother, regardless of age or season will be encouraged. I will read this book again and again, to be filled with joy, faith, and hope. As I nurture and care for those around me, I will be inspired by September's gentle words of grace. *Disclaimer: I am blessed to have been able to read and review {Why} Motherhood Matters. I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. The opinion stated is my own. I have not been compensated in any way.*BookBoss
{Why} Motherhood Matters, by September McCarthy, has been a refreshing read, and a book I wish I had had to read a couple of decades ago. While I have raised three children to adulthood, I do still have a young one at home. This book has inspired me and touched me in ways I did not expect. I have known "of" September for many years (she is married to a childhood friend), but now I feel as though I know her much more intimately. She shares so much of herself here, while encouraging others to be intentional about their motherhood. I love the "raw and real" stuff here, and this book has impacted me in such a way that I am changing my pattern of mothering. I am being more intentional, rather than just trying to survive. I am planning, along with help from the LORD, to THRIVE! I highly recommend this book, as it is for every mother out there. We do not have to do motherhood alone! I received an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for my honest opinion. My honest opinion is that this book is a must-have!uglyrhino

Reviews:
This was my first pregnancy purchase and leaving this review in the third trimester as I’m still picking it up and using it regularly. Great advice for the actual human that is having the baby versus medical baby advice. Helpful prompts, checklists and tips. Feeling more prepared and educated thanks to this book and will be getting it aa a gift for friends in the future!Katie
Just recently purchased this book and I am very excited to read a more modern, “today’s” view of pregnancy. Fingers crossed!Rachel K.
I got this book for a friend and she adores it. It is very homeopathic forward but backs her claims up with evidence. Everything you want in a pregnancy book. I’m excited to read it myself when it’s my time.Robin C.

Reviews:
I did like this book. Some of the things that the author suggests are just easier said than done. What I enjoyed the most about it were the "Dirty Little Secrets" that were shared every few pages, because I have a list of my own that would be liberating to share as well. I believe all mother do. I originally sought out this book because I felt trapped by motherhood, and I just wanted reassurance that I wasn't the only mom out there who was not in love with being a parent. Still searching for that book that clicks.mainomccraney
I am a new mom as of August 07. This book was an easy read, funny, to the point and helped me relate and relax at times when I thought for sure I was going to lose it!girl1123
This book was much better than her follow up book. I loved reading other moms honesty about their struggles to be a good mom. This book was humorous and was well written and did not make motherhood sound like it was all sugar, spice and everything nice 24/7. I would recommend it.collectingharmony

Reviews:
This was a beautifully written, science based book that felt real to me as a soon to be mother. It struck a balance between the things you need to know about the physical process and the often forgotten about mental journey of conception, pregnancy and loss. It's a hefty book with info for each week that includes prompts for writing, a symptom index, labor and delivery from beginning to end and the often forgotten about fourth trimester – including breast feeding information. To top it off, the images in this book are beautiful. Definitely recommend for a first time parent and their partner.MrsSarahElyse
This seems like a great holistic style pregnancy and birth book. And like it would be a treat to read. My sister was pleased to find helpful tips on what to eat during her current stage of pregnancy. Healthcare references are American, so not all relevant to us in UK.b*anna
A beautifully curated book addressing the million questions, thoughts, concerns from pre-pregnancy to the 4th trimester. Some amazing calming notes and tools to use throughout your journey. I wish I had known about this book sooner. A beautiful book for a mumma in the early days of the journey as a reference tool for reassurance. Highly recommend!Tammie
6. Like A Mother: A Feminist Journey Through The Science And Culture Of Pregnancy [Book]

Product Details:
A candid, feminist, and personal deep dive into the science and culture of pregnancy and motherhoodlike most first-time mothers, angela garbes was filled with questions when she became pregnant. what exactly is a placenta and how does it function? how does a body go into labor? why is breast best? is wine totally off-limits? but as she soon discovered, it’s not easy to find satisfying answers. your obstetrician will cautiously quote statistics; online sources will scare you with conflicting and often inaccurate data; and even the most trusted books will offer information with a heavy dose of judgment. to educate herself, the food and culture writer embarked on an intensive journey of exploration, diving into the scientific mysteries and cultural attitudes that surround motherhood to find answers to questions that had only previously been given in the form of advice about what women ought to do—rather than allowing them the freedom to choose the right path for themselves.in like a mother, garbes offers a rigorously researched and compelling look at the physiology, biology, and psychology of pregnancy and motherhood, informed by in-depth reportage and personal experience. with the curiosity of a journalist, the perspective of a feminist, and the intimacy and urgency of a mother, she explores the emerging science behind the pressing questions women have about everything from miscarriage to complicated labors to postpartum changes. the result is a visceral, full-frontal look at what’s really happening during those nine life-altering months, and why women deserve access to better care, support, and information.infused with humor and born out of awe, appreciation, and understanding of the female body and its strength, like a mother debunks common myths and dated assumptions, offering guidance and camaraderie to women navigating one of the biggest and most profound changes in their lives.
Reviews:
Excellent read for anyone, I'm not a mother but I was amazed at the facts and figures she brought out. A must for anyone who is interested in pregnancy cultureMary

8. The Best Most Awful Job: Twenty Writers Talk Honestly About Motherhood [Book]
Product Details:
Motherhood is life-changing. joyful. disorientating. overwhelming. intense on every level. the best, most awful job brings together twenty bold and brilliant women to speak about motherhood in all its raw, heart-wrenching, gloriously impossible forms. overturning assumptions, breaking down myths and shattering stereotypes, these writers challenge our perceptions of what it means to be a mother – and ask you to listen.
Reviews:
I got this book as a present for my sister who is expecting for the 2nd time. I thought this might be the perfect little, amusing, gift that she could relate to and find solace in the fact that any struggles that she's not alone in any of the struggles she's going through. Now, I haven't read all of it yet, taking my time with it and so far it has been an easy read BUT there are definitely a few essays that I will tell her NOT to read before giving birth. No expectant mother needs to read just HOW painful giving birth is – they will most likely remember it themselves. They don't need details of exactly how and how much something ripped – they have the scars to remind them. So all in all, it's less than the funny little book with musings that make you go 'yup, yup' but just… a collection of essays that sometimes go into unnecessary details for the effect.mimimoonchild
9. Rewilding Motherhood: Your Path To An Empowered Feminine Spirituality [Book]

Product Details:
Women are often told by their communities that being a mother will complete or define them. but many mothers find themselves depleted and spiritually stagnant amid the everyday demands of being a mom. they long to experience a rich inner life but feel there is rarely enough time, energy, or stillness to connect with god in a meaningful way.this book takes the concept of rewilding and applies it to motherhood. just as an environmentalist seeks to rewild land by returning it to its natural state, shannon evans invites women to rewild motherhood by reclaiming its essence through an expansive feminine spirituality.drawn from the contemplative catholic tradition and evans's own parenting experience, rewilding motherhood helps women deepen their connection to god through practices inherent to the life they're living now. topics include work-life balance, identity, solitude, patience, household work, and mission for the common good. throughout, evans encourages women to see motherhood as an opportunity to discover a vibrant feminine spirituality and a deeper knowledge of god and self.
Reviews:
In Rewilding Motherhood, Shannon K. Evans takes the concept of rewilding and attempts to apply it to feminine spirituality. For years, women have been told that motherhood will complete them. But many women still long for a deeper spiritual connection with God. Evans encourages women to use motherhood as an opportunity to connect with a deeper knowledge of God and self. Topics include: identity, work-life balance, and solitude. I was really excited about the premise of this book. I think there's a lot here to explore. However, the first chapter was so full of red flags. From the first page, the author asserts that society has told women that they'll be fulfilled from being mothers. This statement alone is completely contrary to today's view of motherhood which has been greatly devalued. Evan goes on to talk about how women have sacrificed themselves on the alters of their husbands and children. Not only did I find this statement offensive, but also untrue. There's was so many condescending statements just within the first few chapters of this book; I became so frustrated with the author that I just couldn't go any further. All in all, Rewilding Motherhood felt very poorly researched, very self-helpish, and incredibly judgmental. I just can't recommend this book for anyone. *Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.Robin
This book is dripping with beauty and insight, and it's a must-read for any mom seeking a deeper connection with God. I was blessed by the chapters on anger and patience (these two chapters alone are worth the price of the book!). I especially loved how she reframed our idea of selflessness/self-sacrifice. I also deeply appreciated her thoughts on incarnational theology and reimagining the feminine side of God. I want to get a box of these books and give one to every mom I know… highly recommended!Sarah B

When I first had kids, I felt so clueless and I tried to read everything I could get my hands on, plus ask other parents people lots of questions. It’s kind of a cliche that in our culture to say that kids don’t come with a manual, so I sure appreciate that the folks at Quirk took that thought seriously and published Stuff Every Mom Should Know. It is written by the authors of the blog RookieMoms and has real world advice, not pithy or unhelpful ideas, but suggestions that I would definitely use, from the baby years up to teens. They answer all kinds of questions, like how to take care of a baby on an airplane or how to rid a bedroom of monsters. They also give tips for things like what foods your teen should know how to cook or how to put a positive spin on what you say in front of your kids. For example, instead of saying, “Charlie’s mom is an idiot”, you could say, “I don’t agree with Charlie’s mom’s choices”. I can really relate to having to stop myself and trying to say things in a way that would set a good example and I appreciate their hints. What I also found in reading through Stuff Every Mom Should Know, is that the principles of what they are getting at really shine through and not just the specific practices. That is a help to me to know what to do in any situation, even those not listed in the book.Michelle

Gorgeous book – I bought this for myself at the beginning of a month of maternity leave. Beautiful insights into practices across different cultures in the lead up to the baby's arrival and for the first 40 days beyond delivery. I've cooked a number of the recipes to freeze and they have all been fantastic. Have already recommended to other friends who are expecting.
