4. The Digital Photography Book: The Step-By-Step Secrets For How To Make Your Photos Look Like The Pros'! [Book]
Product Details:
Scott kelby, author of the groundbreaking bestseller “the digital photography book, vol. 1” is back with an entirely new book that picks up right where vol. 1 left off. it's more of that “ah ha—so that's how they do it,” straight-to-the-point, skip the techno jargon; packed with stuff you can really use today, that made vol. 1 the world's bestselling book on digital photography. in volume 2, scott adds entirely new chapters packed with plain english tips on using flash, shooting close up photography, travel photography, shooting people, and even how to build a studio from scratch, where he demystifies the process so anyone can start taking pro-quality portraits today! plus, he's got full chapters on his most requested topics, including loads of tips for landscape photographers, wedding photographers, and there's an entire chapter devoted to sharing some of the pro's secrets for making your photos look more professional, no matter what you're shooting. this book truly has a brilliant premise, and here's how scott describes it: “if you and i were out on a shoot, and you asked me, 'when i use my flash, the background behind the person i'm shooting turns black. how do i fix that?' i wouldn't give you a lecture on flash ratios, or start a discussion on flash synchronization and rear curtain sync. i'd just say “lower your shutter speed to 1/60 of a second. that should do it” well, that's what this book is all about: you and i out shooting where i answer questions, give you advice, and share the secrets i've learned just like i would with a friend—without all the technical explanations and techie photo speak.” each page covers a single concept on how to make your photography better. every time you turn the page, you'll learn another pro setting, tool, or trick to transform your work from snapshots into gallery prints. if you're tired of taking shots that look “okay,” and if you're tired of looking in photography magazines and thinking, “why don't my shots look like that?” then this is the book for you. this isn't a book of theory—full of confusing jargon and detailed concepts. this is a book on which button to push, which setting to use, and when to use it. with nearly another 200 of the most closely guarded photographic “tricks of the trade,” this book gets you shooting dramatically better-looking, sharper, more colorful, more professional-looking photos every time.
Reviews:
I had the first Digital Photography book written by Scott Kelby, see my other reviews, and this one is just as good, or better, then the first. The book is a lot easier to understand then most photography books, and is laid out so it is very simple to understand. The layout is as if you are out on a photography trip with the author and ask him a question and he gives you a simple answer on how to do what you asked. It contains a wealth of information that expands on the first book. I would recommend that if you purchase this one to go ahead and purchase the first book as well. I will definitely be looking to see if a third ones is published, and if so will purchase it as well.gnhntn1967
Scott's books are great and I am lucky to find 3 individual books of this set. They are several years old but still the basics rules of photography apply in simple beginner's terms. Easy to read. I love his humor. I also like the reduced cost of buying on ebay. Service and delivery were great.rebeccacantrell
Been buying Scott's books for many years, they are always instructive in regular layman language, well illustrated, and very informative. Highly recommend this book to all digital photographers – I have 60+ years photographic experience, and still manage to learn from Scott. There is a volume 2 of this book, and You'll find more info & tips there.columbiariverlee

8. The Photographer's Eye: Composition And Design For Better Digital Photos [Book]
Product Details:
Design is the single most important factor in creating a successful photograph. the ability to see the potential for a strong picture and then organize the graphic elements into an effective, compelling composition has always been one of the key skills in making photographs. digital photography has brought a new, exciting aspect to design – first because the instant feedback from a digital camera allows immediate appraisal and improvement; and second because image-editing tools make it possible to alter and enhance the design after the shutter has been pressed. this has had a profound effect on the way digital photographers take pictures. now published in sixteen languages, the photographer's eye continues to speak to photographers everywhere. reaching 100,000 copies in print in the us alone, and 300,000+ worldwide, it shows how anyone can develop the ability to see and shoot great digital photographs. the book explores all the traditional approaches to composition and design, but crucially, it also addresses the new digital technique of shooting in the knowledge that a picture will later be edited, manipulated, or montaged to result in a final image that may be very different from the one seen in the viewfinder.features*covers both traditional in-camera composition and the new opportunities for picture-making made possible by digital imaging editing *shows how to explore situations and locations in order to find the best possible photographic possibilities *uses clear examples from real photographic assignments, with schematic illustrations of how and why the pictures work
Reviews:
I've been struggling with composition for a while now, but after reading this book, I feel confident my photography will improve. Will look at buying more books authored by Michael Freeman.robynf3012
Photographer for 60 years, but this book is more valuable than most of that experience. Superior teaching on What to see and How to act photographically for excellent results. If you value making excellent images? then get this book and learn from it. While some or many of Freeman's ideas may be known to you or already are being used, there will be more "jewels" to be found. For example, he teaches how older view camera users produced great pictures while looking at upside down images. They learned to see light versus dark areas, positive versus negative space and composition instead of concentration on the subject only. To summarize my review, I give this book the highest possible positive recommendation. If you appreciate good photography and making high quality photographs instead of lucking into an occasional success story, then this book is essentially worth whatever you have to pay for it. Thank you.hh11

9. Composition & Photography: Working With Photography Using Design Concepts [Book]
Product Details:
Own composition, use composition, and make composition your own in your photographs! of all the magical elixirs that make up a successful photograph, composition is perhaps the most fundamental, and at the same time the most elusive. what makes a composition "good"? there is an undeniable emotional response when a composition resonates with and complements the subject matter of an image. but traditional attempts to define "good composition" and to pass on rules for good compositional construction are often doomed to failure. the truth is, there are no hard and fast rules. rules eliminate experimentation and spontaneity, which are crucial for creating compelling, dynamic, and exciting compositions. the best compositions contain an element of the unexpected. "expect the unexpected!" is perhaps the only viable "rule" of composition. to create exciting compositions, you must have a willingness to embrace serendipity and change as part of your artistic practice. after all, composition is a process, not a result. in composition & photography, photographer and bestselling author harold davis teaches you how to perceive patterns and abstractions and incorporate them into your image-making process. if one of the goals of photography is to show viewers things that are new, or things they haven't seen before, or things they have seen many times but need to see anew, then it's with the thoughtful and considered use of composition that you do that. in this book, you'll learn how to reduce your subject matter to the fundamentals, and to show familiar subjects in unfamiliar, novel ways. harold covers topics and themes such as: ▪ lines and circles ▪ rectangles ▪ combinations ▪ repetition ▪ symmetry and asymmetry ▪ abstraction ▪ entering and exiting ▪ vanishing points and perspective ▪ emphasis ▪ designing within a frame ▪ creating order from chaos composition & photography will help you find the tools and visual vocabulary to creatively design your photographs. regardless of the genre and kind of photography you practice, you'll learn to create powerful compositions that incorporate structure and form into your work in ways that best support your images. along the way, harold shows and discusses his own work relating to each compositional element or theme he's exploring. and featured throughout the book are exercises about flexibility and process, designed to spur your creativity and help you begin an internal creative discussion." my goal as a photography teacher and writer about photography is to inspire and to help you become the best and most creative photographer and image-maker that you can be." ―harold davis"harold davis is a force of nature―a man of astonishing eclectic skills and accomplishments." ―rangefinder magazine

content is good but the physical appearance of the book is full of little holes in a row all along the edges. Unfit for display on my bookshelfkomkris2000
Great teaching guide with many examples of taking a picture, then taking it again to make it better. Love the excercises in developing an eye for seeing more creatively. An easy, enjoyable read.hopmang
I first read an article Bryan Peterson wrote in a magazine, tried the exercise and was so impressed with the outcome that I thought I would try his book. This is a must for anyone who is using a camera whether a pro or just capturing photos of family and friends or vacations. It's very easy to understand and Bryan gives lots of examples to demonstrate the techniques he describes. If you're kind of new to photography then this is a book you will refer to over and over again. If you're a seasoned photographer then these are great reminders for capturing better pictures and refining your skills even more. If you simply want to take better pictures then this book is for you.kringle1kat
