1. The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological Foundations Of Emotions Attachment Communicat [Book]
Product Details:
A collection of groundbreaking research by a leading figure in neuroscience.this book compiles, for the first time, stephen w. porges’s decades of research. a leading expert in developmental psychophysiology and developmental behavioral neuroscience, porges is the mind behind the groundbreaking polyvagal theory, which has startling implications for the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, and autism. adopted by clinicians around the world, the polyvagal theory has provided exciting new insights into the way our autonomic nervous system unconsciously mediates social engagement, trust, and intimacy.
Reviews:
This book should help to make Stephen Porges' important contributions better known. In this time where all talk is about « the brain » (instead of the central nervous system, which would give « the brain » already a more appropriate place), it's high time to return to the body and it's autonomic nervous system, and the role it plays in depression, anxiety, fear and most important of all, in « social engagement ». From this model we can both gain a better understanding why music, movement, face-to-face dialogue and methods such as cranio-sacral therapy work, but also shed a brighter and more realistic light on how some of the socalled « energy psychotherapies » work. This model helps us better understand how to re-activate the social engagement system and how this is beneficial on all levels of human functioning. Porges's results with autistic persons with his form of « listening therapy », derived from his theory, is just one example of the importance of his model.

How sustained disruptions to children’s safety have physical, behavioral, and mental health impact that follow them into adulthood.at its heart, polyvagal theory describes how the brain’s unconscious sense of safety or danger impacts our emotions and behaviors. in this powerful book, pediatrician and neonatologist marilyn r. thompson offer readers both a meditation on caregiving and a call to action for physicians, educators, and mental health providers. when children don’t have safe relationships, or emotional, medical, or physical traumas punctuate their lives, their ability to love, trust, and thrive is damaged. children who have multiple relationship disruptions may have physical, behavioral, or mental health concerns that follow them into adulthood. by attending to the lessons of polyvagal theory—that adult caregivers must be aware of children’s unconscious processing of sensory information—the authors show how professionals can play a critical role in establishing a sense of safety even in the face of dangerous, and sometimes incomprehensibly scary, situations.

Julianna is the ruler of the five realms that make up the land of Aerilea. She is smart, beautiful and beloved by her people. She is also a powerful mage, and a very formidable fighting opponent, whether with swords, magic or bare fists. Her latest battle is against the Mother of All Monsters, a being the size of a mountain, who has been dormant for many years. She defeats the monster, but dies in the process. She returns to life a couple of years later. Julianna is now a being of energy, held together by magic, and the sheer force of her will. While she was gone, three of the five realms of Aerilea broke away. She is able to convince them to return. The five realms are also subject to attack by armies of monsters. They are large, carnivorous beasts with claws and tentacles. They are led, or controlled, by a humanoid who calls himself the Father of All Monsters. His motives are a lot more than just killing all humans. A much bigger problem is that the supply of magic is almost gone. Aerilea is an island continent that floats in the air due to magic. Some of the outlying islands have fallen to the Lower World. An emissary is sent from the Lower World to ask Julianna how they have displeased her. Since Julianna's body is held together by magic, the crisis is personal. A search of the magic "reservoirs" around Aerilea reveal that they are all practically empty. A way is found to stop the collapse of Aerilea, but it involves Julianna leaving this world forever. What is her decision? Is there no alternative? I enjoyed reading this story. Julianna is a very strong female character, almost a superwoman. There is plenty of sword and sorcery, along with lots of good writing. Fantasy fans will love it.plappen

14. The Philosophy Of Modern Song [Book]

Product Details:
The philosophy of modern song is bob dylan’s first book of new writing since 2004’s chronicles: volume one—and since winning the nobel prize for literature in 2016. dylan, who began working on the book in 2010, offers his extraordinary insight into the nature of popular music. he writes over sixty essays focusing on songs by other artists, spanning from stephen foster to elvis costello, and in between ranging from hank williams to nina simone. he analyzes what he calls the trap of easy rhymes, breaks down how the addition of a single syllable can diminish a song, and even explains how bluegrass relates to heavy metal. these essays are written in dylan’s unique prose. they are mysterious and mercurial, poignant and profound, and often laugh-out-loud funny. and while they are ostensibly about music, they are really meditations and reflections on the human condition. running throughout the book are nearly 150 carefully curated photos as well as a series of dream-like riffs that, taken together, resemble an epic poem and add to the work’s transcendence. in 2020, with the release of his outstanding album rough and rowdy ways, dylan became the first artist to have an album hit the billboard top 40 in each decade since the 1960s. the philosophy of modern song contains much of what he has learned about his craft in all those years, and like everything that dylan does, it is a momentous artistic achievement.
Reviews:
Fascinating insights on modern music. As always, Bob Dylan is beautifully poetic in his writing.Claire
Don't go looking for anything contemporary here: the 'modern' songs are a selection of the songs that influenced Bob Dylan way back when. You may not even recognize some of them. And some are long forgotten. He takes off from each song, giving us its provenance but also the feelings and extravagant thoughts these songs evoke – in him. No one but Dylan could have written this book.Mickey B.
Love, love, love this book. It's a great insight into some of the songs that have inspired Dylan, along with fantastic graphics and photos, which are a visual treat in themselves. No index, however, and the songs aren't listed in alphabetical order (so I created my own index). Missing are Joe Cocker, Matt Monroe, Leonard Cohen – and I'm still looking for a mention of Buddy Holly, even though Dylan says Holly inspired him. Little Richard gets two chapters. All in all, this book is a treasure – a sort of printed version of Theme Time Radio Hour.Bobfan

Great book!! I've listened to it on Audible three times now and loved it so much that I bought the hard copy as well just to highlight and keep for immediate reference. Some of the knowledge in this book, I have applied to my life and it has immediately changed it! He talks about setting up good systems for habits which is honestly a mind-blowing concept! It's so simple but yet I've never thought about it before. Everyone wants to immediately change their habits, myself included, but never have any systems in place to achieve this. This book shows you how to succeed at this. So highly recommended! I've never been a person who had a favourite book but now I am and this is it!Atomic Amy

I started reading this book a week ago. I finished in nine days. The book describes in depth what it takes to become organised and how successful people use the tactics provided in their day to day lives. It's intuitive and smart and I love the way the information is worded. Excellent book would highly reccomend.random
