5. Inside Out: A Personal History Of Pink Floyd (Reading Edition): (Rock And Roll Book, Biography Of Pink Floyd, Music Book) [Book]

Product Details:
"the definitive history of pink floyd, one of the world's great bands, by founder member nick mason. one of the most fascinating rock bands ever, pink floyd was formed in 1965. after a year in the london 'underground' experimenting with revolutionary techniques such as lights that matched their music, they released their first single in 1966. their breakthrough album, the dark side of the moon, was released in 1973 and stayed in the charts until 1982, the longest a record has ever been continuously in the charts, becoming one of the best-selling albums of all time. in 1975 they released wish you were here, which reached iconic status, then in 1979 the wall went to number 1 in almost every country in the world. the movie version of the wall starring bob geldof was released in 1982, becoming a cult favourite. in the 1980s a rift developed between the band members which culminated in law suits. the book was originally written in 2004, then updated and reissued again in 2017, to accompany the opening of the exhibition 'their mortal remains' at the victoria and albert museum in london."– provided by publisher.
Reviews:
I've read several books on Pink Floyd, and this is by far the best.mojobaseball2009
Bought as present for big pink Floyd fan. They were highly delighted and rang me with high praises of this copy of their fav band.cromwellblue
Simply A+ outstanding, five star rating. Pink Floyd drummer "Smiling" Nick Mason is the only outgoing one of the band reveals the story behind Pink Floyd during their long and great careers. Having owned and read the Beatles Anthology book and the Doors Moonlight Drive-story behind every song, I was curious about the meaning of Pink Floyd songs. Where the Beatles and Doors had simpler songs, I have never tired of Pink Floyd for their use of deeper meaning and darker chords in their songs. It's like classical music where it never fades away as you grow appreciation over the years. The parallels of Pink Floyd is just like the Beatles where keyboardist Rick Wright was the quiet introspective one just like George Harrison. Wright however was very innovative in inventing new frontiers and pushing the limits in creative keyboard and synthizer sounds. In the end, Wright became less of a songwriter to where Harrison grew late in his Beatle career. Some can also read how David Gilmour and Roger Waters can draw parallels to Paul McCartney and John Lennon, who both also developed an ego. Lennon and McCartney's clash was mainly over the hallowed grounds of the Abbey Road recording studio where Yoko Ono seem to have invaded the other Bealtes' personal space during their intimate recording time. Ringo Starr is very much like Mason in that Ringo was always seen either smiling or laughing. Though people poked fun at Ringo, he made Beatle songs fun. Mason was always enthusiastic and provided that energy though some Pink Floyd had what was called dark chords. However like dark lines and shadows in an abstract painting, that's what made Pink Floyd songs always interesting. In this book, we find out how the song Pink Floyd was invented by guitarist Syd Barrett after another band had their same name, the Tea Set. Also though people think of Pink Floyd as a band connected with LSD, only Barrett used it and went schitzophrenic enough to battle depression, become insane and battle diabetes. We see that the other four remaining Pink Floyd members, Mason, Wright, Waters and new member Gilmour wouldn't even accept a drink of water from the people living in the same apartment at Barrett so as not to experiment with LSD. Another thing I enjoyed revealed in the book was the band's friendship with great late guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Also how Pink Floyd came about the songs from their great iconic album Dark Side of the Moon is revealed. There is great philosophy in Dark Side of the Moon such as the lunatic is on the grass. You think it's about the fallen Barrett but we see it's actually about politicians, political rules, and the constant threat of war. It continues, "the lunatic is in the hall…the folded paper holds their folded faces to the floor. And everyday the paperboy brings more(I have heard Waters substitue War in some versions)." The other bizarre concidence is that the song "Shine on you crazy diamond" it was said that Barrett showed up in the studio incoherent, overweight, bald like a man who put on too many years. Of course the great Animals and Wall albums are covered here. We finally learn how the Wall got it's start from a heckling, threatening, and inebriated fan in a Montreal Pink Floyd concert in which Waters got sick of and spit at the fan. We also find out about Water's upbringing in which he was denied of his father growing up. His father was killed in WWII when he was six months old. It's revealed in the song when the Tigers broke free. *****ralphg-baseballbookauthor

15. Rockers And Rollers: A Full-Throttle Memoir [Book]
Product Details:
By night, brian johnson sings in the biggest rock 'n' roll band on the planet. but by day, ac/dc's frontman drives balls to the wall. when he was a young boy growing up in a working-class english town, brian developed what would become a lifelong passion for cars, trolling junkyards and even pretending to drive the family car. from there, he steamed up the windows of his old mini cooper as a teenager, spent untold time in hygienically challenged tour buses, was chauffeured in leather-trimmed limos, and raced cars to a checkered flag. featuring guest stars cliff williams, malcolm and angus young, and many, many others—even arnold schwarzenegger—rockers and rollers is a tribute to brian's obsession with four wheels. by turns surprising, poignant, funny, and maybe a little bit bawdy, these are the stories of a man who drives as hard as he rocks.
Reviews:
I don't know what kind of books are good reading in England, but this one is different. Don't expect many tales of AC/DC exploits and adventures. This book is pretty much about Brian Johnson's love of cars…lots and lots of cars. There are car guys, and then there is Johnson. Jeez, he lives and breathes cars. Not at all what I was expecting, but there were a few interesting moments. The best line was from a Lotus dealer, when he was telling Johnson what was wrong with Johnson's lotus; "The destrangulation millipod was congratulating the seimhydrosternic anticular"…WHAT?? That is what I am going to tell my freinds what is wrong with my car when I have a problem next time..That's funny, I don't care who ya are! Regardless, if you like reading about other dudes and their lifetime of cars, especially the cars not many people get to learn much about, you may enjoy this book. I don't know why Ikept reading it, but it sort a had my interest here and there. Thank godnenss it has short chapters, he's pretty much all over the place. Like a thought comes to mind, and he just writes about it..He's got an awesome voice, but Brian, please stick to your gig with AC/DC.stevearinos
Ok – this book's content is of questionable value – was really hoping to get more insight into Brian Johnson's life, BUT for the price I find it worth while. Not totally compelling – but interesting at times, I pick it up and put it down with ease.stgem-1839
This book is a page turner! Even if you dont like cars his humor is infectious !! He is a wonderful story teller! I would love to sit and listen to him tell stories from his past , oh and he can sing too! Great book! Ps I hope I used the word cheeky as a compliment !!snel3712
