Great book, well written with lots of useful information. It is more for the serious runner I think and those who are running marathons but there is still plenty of good information for others and as an amateur 10 km runner I don't feel initimidated. I haven't finished reading it but have already recommended it to others.

Reviews:
Upon recommendation of a good running buddy of mine, I bought and read this book a year ago; and it was nothing short of transformative. Buying my second copy, because I gave it to a friend and immediately regretted it. I had read a thread talking about this book online, and again it was impossible to think that the people talking about it had not been paid. No matter whether you're a beginning Runner or a seasoned marathoner, You will find something of value in this book! After reading it and following the training plan, I shaved 50 minutes (!!)off of my Marathon PR finish time, and 13 minutes off of my most recent Half Marathon finish time.. I've been running for 9 years now, and NEVER thought This kind of improvement was possible!! This book is my "bible" now, and I recommend it to everyone. It's an easy read (but honestly you can get everything you need from it just by reading the training plans in the middle, if for some reason the content otherwise doesn't appeal to you.) Do yourself a favor don't take my word for it! I bought my copy used on eBay for $3.50. Just buy yourself a copy!joannamt79
I like value for any type of runner. From novice to serious one will find the FIRST approach a wonderful idea to at least give it a try.danielpepe
I bought this book thinking it was a four day training programme, but it's only three! It claims that it's for beginners to advanced, but the intensity is more than I personally could handle right now even tho I'm Intermediate level (Mum with 2 small kids). Whilst I don't feel I'm in the zone yet to follow such a programme, it is jam packed with useful information and will definitely use snippets of it to aid my existing training.
8. Running Man: A Memoir Of Ultra-Endurance [Book]

Product Details:
Charlie engle’s “fascinating account of the high and low points of his life as an ultramarathon runner…is uplifting and inspirational” (publishers weekly) as he describes his globe-spanning races, his record-breaking run across the sahara desert, and how running helped him overcome drug addiction—and an unjust stint in federal prison.after a decade-long addiction to crack cocaine and alcohol, charlie engle hit bottom with a near-fatal six-day binge that ended in a hail of bullets. as engle got sober, he turned to running, which became his lifeline, his pastime, and his salvation. he began with marathons, and when marathons weren’t far enough, he began to take on ultramarathons, races that went for thirty-five, fifty, and sometimes hundreds of miles, traveling to some of the most unforgiving places on earth to race. the matt damon-produced documentary, running the sahara, followed engle as he lead a team on a harrowing, record breaking 4,500-mile run across the sahara desert, which helped raise millions of dollars for charity. charlie’s growing notoriety led to an investigation and a subsequent unjust conviction for mortgage fraud for which he spent sixteen months in federal prison in beckley, west virginia. while in jail, engle pounded the small prison track, running endlessly in circles. soon his fellow inmates were joining him, struggling to keep their spirits up in dehumanizing circumstances. in running man, charlie engle tells the surprising, funny, and emotional story of his life, detailing his setbacks and struggles—from coping with addiction to serving time in prison—and how he blazed a path to freedom by putting one foot in front of the other. “a fast-paced, well-written account of a man who accepts pain, pushes beyond imagined limits, and ultimately finds redemption and peace” (booklist), this is a raw and triumphant account about finding the threshold of human endurance, and transcending it.
Reviews:
This was an excellent book about someone who could have kept going in the wrong direction but decided that wasn't what he wanted. He turned his life around, found something that meant something to him and hasn't stopped since. I just noticed on Facebook he ran a race I am familiar with. Since I have someone I know who is also an ultra runner it was a very interesting read for me. I guess even if you know nothing about the sport it is still a good read about someone who found his way back.Shawn
Excellent read..loved it!Cindy
