1. After [Book]

Product Details:
Experience the internet's most talked-about book, now a major motion picture, from anna todd, the writer cosmopolitan called “the biggest literary phenomenon of her generation.” there was the time before tessa met hardin, and then there’s everything after… life will never be the same. #hessa tessa is a good girl with a sweet, reliable boyfriend back home. she’s got direction, ambition, and a mother who’s intent on keeping her that way. but she’s barely moved into her freshman dorm when she runs into hardin. with his tousled brown hair, cocky british accent, and tattoos, hardin is cute and different from what she’s used to. but he’s also rude—to the point of cruelty, even. for all his attitude, tessa should hate hardin. and she does—until she finds herself alone with him in his room. something about his dark mood grabs her, and when they kiss it ignites within her a passion she’s never known before. he'll call her beautiful, then insist he isn’t the one for her and disappear again and again. despite the reckless way he treats her, tessa is compelled to dig deeper and find the real hardin beneath all his lies. he pushes her away again and again, yet every time she pushes back, he only pulls her in deeper. tessa already has the perfect boyfriend. so why is she trying so hard to overcome her own hurt pride and hardin's prejudice about nice girls like her? unless…could this be love?
Reviews:
Let me first say I usually don't write reviews about anything, but this deserves it. First off, it's an easy read and understanding everything that is going on so you could get thru the series fairly quick, and that is the hard part because you want to finish it as soon as possible, but want it to continue. Hardin and Tessa's relationship is one of the hardest I have ever read, but it is raw and passionate love, and it is the worse kind of love, but that is what love is about, sometimes. I have never cried in my life as much as I have over a book, not even when Dobby dies in Harry Potter. I even threw the books a few times, cursed at it, curled up under my husband's arms because the emotions in their story is so raw.I hated Hardin, loved Hardin, hated Tessa, and loved her again. This book is not for people who take things series , as it does have a lot of emotional abuse in it. At the end of everything no one should go through the process that this couple goes through, but again some people actually do.That is what makes series so great, it could actually happen. And to think it started with a One Direction. I will honestly reread the whole series again, and I don't do that.Nessa
In this twisted and trying tale, an ambitious, college-bound girl, Tessa Young, has found herself entangled with a wild boy that she would have never have given the time of day. Her main goal was to focus on school, her too-good-to-be true boyfriend, Noah, and to start her career in English, but all of that changes after. After she meets Hardin. He is a bad boy with a traumatic past he has completely captured Tessa's attention. In the first book of the After series we find Tessa trying to find out how she fits into her new college life while also figuring out if she is falling for Hardin Scott. My favorite trope is that of enemies to lovers and this book fulfills that fantasy!Mack
Personally, I had watched the first three movies before reading the series. The first book was very sexual and detailed. However, I found myself obsessed. I have completed the book two times before ever finishing the series of books. The books are in my opinion way better than the books. However, watching them first allowed me to imagine Tessa Hardin as the characters presented in the movies. My mother has tried to read the series but found no interest. She prefers the movies and is a book junkie. With all that being said I would say give the book a shot. 👍🏼savannah.p
2. The Overstory: A Novel [Book]

Product Details:
Winner of the pulitzer prizenew york times bestseller an air force loadmaster in the vietnam war is shot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a banyan. an artist inherits a hundred years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed american chestnut. a hard-partying undergraduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies, and is sent back into life by creatures of air and light. a hearing- and speech-impaired scientist discovers that trees are communicating with one another. these four, and five other strangers—each summoned in different ways by trees—are brought together in a last and violent stand to save the continent’s few remaining acres of virgin forest. in his twelfth novel, national book award winner richard powers delivers a sweeping, impassioned novel of activism and resistance that is also a stunning evocation of—and paean to—the natural world. from the roots to the crown and back to the seeds, the overstory unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fables that range from antebellum new york to the late twentieth-century timber wars of the pacific northwest and beyond, exploring the essential conflict on this planet: the one taking place between humans and nonhumans. there is a world alongside ours—vast, slow, interconnected, resourceful, magnificently inventive, and almost invisible to us. this is the story of a handful of people who learn how to see that world and who are drawn up into its unfolding catastrophe.the overstory is a book for all readers who despair of humanity’s self-imposed separation from the rest of creation and who hope for the transformative, regenerating possibility of a homecoming. if the trees of this earth could speak, what would they tell us? "listen. there’s something you need to hear."
Reviews:
For me it is a difficult read. Many short stories, some are better than others. So far they are rather dark and depressing. Someone in my book club chose it, so I will finish it. Another friend reading it said, I hope it gets better. I like the information about the variety of trees.charmorton49
I approached The Overstory with high expectations, given it had won the Pulitzer Prize and had rave reviews. On that basis I was a bit disappointed. The author starts with a series of short stories of each of the seven key characters in the work, and gradually intertwines their lives over the remaining 450 pages. It almost works, but a couple of the characters never quite intertwine with the others, and it isn't clear why they are there at all. The uniting theme is that of trees and their characters and longevity, which compares favorably with that of humans. It's compelling and engaging, but sometimes Powers is trying just a bit too hard. Perhaps it had a greater impact on American audiences than Australian, as I suspect our attitudes towards old growth forests are now more positive (after the battles of the 1980s and 1990s). There is some beautiful writing in this work, but it left me just a little unsatisfied.Austi Boy
A complex of characters, operating somewhat like a shopping centre complex for this reader; it tells a tale as dense as a forest ( pardon the glib simile) – a forest where I was struggling for a bit about three quarters of the way through, close to being lost, just before the momentum picked up again heading for .. the… end…Along the way there came a chapter, titled "Seeds" , barely two pages long, that could have stood alone as a short story or would work like a movie trailer.. Yes I would read this book again.Petal

Product Details:
The companion volume to the twelve-hour pbs series from the acclaimed filmmaker behind the civil war, baseball, and the war.america’s national parks spring from an idea as radical as the declaration of independence: that the nation’s most magnificent and sacred places should be preserved, not for royalty or the rich, but for everyone. in this evocative and lavishly illustrated narrative, ken burns and dayton duncan delve into the history of the park idea, from the first sighting by white men in 1851 of the valley that would become yosemite and the creation of the world’s first national park at yellowstone in 1872, through the most recent additions to a system that now encompasses nearly four hundred sites and 84 million acres.the authors recount the adventures, mythmaking, and intense political battles behind the evolution of the park system, and the enduring ideals that fostered its growth. they capture the importance and splendors of the individual parks: from haleakala in hawaii to acadia in maine, from denali in alaska to the everglades in florida, from glacier in montana to big bend in texas. and they introduce us to a diverse cast of compelling characters—both unsung heroes and famous figures such as john muir, theodore roosevelt, and ansel adams—who have been transformed by these special places and committed themselves to saving them from destruction so that the rest of us could be transformed as well.the national parks is a glorious celebration of an essential expression of american democracy.
Reviews:
An outstanding volume capturing the beauty of America. Wonderful text!jogil6965
Nice book. Very big and heavy. Bought it as a coffee table book as a present. I was expecting more pictures in it of the national parks to illustrate how beautiful they are, but it actually had a lot more history than I expected. Gift-wise, this is perfect for my recipient because they like that sort of thing, but if it was for me, I would want a book with many more pictures.

Reviews:

Reviews:
This book highlighted some disturbingly familiar issues in our society which takes place in an unfamiliar, wild and unforgiving environment. It takes the reader on a journey of emotional highs and lows. It has all the elements which touch our heart; love, hope, tragedy and disappointment. It shows the characters as complex multi dimensional beings, which we come to understand as their stories unfold.Maggie
As a cradle Catholic, I found this book difficult. I struggled with the perspective of being written by Jesus' wife Ana. It would have been more in keeping with my upbringing if the perspective had been that of Mary Magdalen. I usually pass my books along, I will not do that with this book. Our book club has a diverse membership, our Jewish members are not familiar with the New Testament, and they struggled with keeping the characters straight. Our Indian members had similar struggles, but they had some knowledge of the complete Bible. We are a well educated group of women, doctors, engineers, teachers, lawyers, etc. Definitely not a book I will recommend.RosieG
Audible version review: The story was decent and the narration was great. However, when she described anything, everything, and all things, the book became incredibly, astonishingly, and boringly repetitive . I don't need 3 adjectives to describe the color blue (cerulean, turquoise and crystal) , the snow sitting on the mountain (bright white with a million sparkling diamonds in the shining sun) AND the sound of the boat as it laps, slaps, and caresses the waves. It got to the point that I would entertain myself by counting the number of adjectives the author gave each time she describe what something looked like. If you think this review is boring, then you are getting the picture.sheri.g

Reviews:
Basically this is a fantastic book for the Magic enthusiast, the collector, the beginner and the 'average' reader curious about Magic. There are no tricks explained inside, but great concepts and some nice hystoric details, not to mention comments and tips by some greats like Jeff McBride, Lance Burton, the Pendragons, Max Maven, Eugene Burger, James Randi and so on. The book comes in a size enjoyable to handle, with many fantastic photos and posters reproductions, great colors and well chosen arguments. I insist: don't look for tricks inside here, but if you look for Magic culture in a basic form, this book can be a good resource to consider as a start.piermagic65
Several glaring errors were very disturbing. The section on Alexander Herman has two large and very nice pictures of Alexander the man who knows, a famous mentalist, who is most definitely not Alexander Herman. A quarter page quote by Max Maven appears twice a few pages apart. I stopped reading after that. My guess is that the final book layout was a rush job and no one competent in the subject matter reviewed the final layout. This would be a good book to cut pictures out of for framing.magicman0pgk
It provides a great introduction to the world of magic for those who have never encountered it.jkhiggins0420
