Reviews:
Samantha Shannon is one of my FAVOURITE authors. I've read the three books that are out in The Bone Season septology MULTIPLE TIMES and I'm OBSESSED. I follow her on social media and I'd been hearing about a world filled with dragons and female power for a while and while I was excited, it wasn't until I saw that JAW-DROPPING cover that I knew, with all certainty, that I WOULD DEFINITELY BE READING THIS BOOK. So, when Bloomsbury India send me an advance copy, I jumped in joy and dived in almost immediately. IN A NUTSHELL: The Priory of the Orange Tree is one of the BEST fantasy novels I've read in a while, especially in terms of world-building. The religions, the kingdoms and the politics usually don't intrigue me as much as the characters do, but Priory was a perfect blend of it all. I was as invested in the fate of the kingdom and the people as I was in the characters narrating the story. I loved the magic, the dragons, the lore, the romance, the friendship and the political intrigue. In a nutshell, that ended up being no so nutshell-y, The Priory of the Orange Tree was everything I expected it to be AND MORE. THINGS I LOVED: 1. EAD AND SABRAN. These two were my FAVOURITE characters and I loved them and their story. 2. In this world, both same and different sex partners and were the norm, except for royalty because of the whole line of succession reason, but companionship was based on love, not society-based gender constructs and it was wonderful 3. THE WATER DRAGONS WERE BRILLIANT and I LOVED Tane and her dragon's story. 4. THE WORLD, THE RELIGIONS AND THE PALACES were all brilliant. I cannot describe how much I became a part of this world while reading this 800-page beauty, but I did. It was probably the most "I'm a part of this world now" experience I've ever had. THINGS I DIDN'T LOVE AS MUCH: 1. Niclays Roos and his storyline seemed like filler at best. Full Review on A Thousand Words A Million BooksAditi - ATWAMB

Reviews:
I LOVE THIS SERIES OMG! The character development you end up seeing in cardan is amazing! Jude is such a baddie and who doesn’t love a main character with sword skills? My favourite book is definitely the second one in the series which is the wicked king! There are major plot twists at the end of holly blacks books and I am living for it! I definitely recommend this book to get it now!!!
The Cruel Prince was one that I really wanted to fall in love with. And, I did, to an extent. Superficially, it was alluring and enchanting, and captivated me in the moment. Depth-wise, it just didn't stick with me like I had hoped. This isn't to say it was a bad book. The story was magical and intense. The writing was absolutely gorgeous, but, every time I put the book down to come back to it at a later time, I found it to be less than memorable. I struggled to remember what I had previously read during those gaps of not reading, and found myself backing up to refresh myself before being able to continue. The imagination of the world was spot on. It was vivid and colorful, and had a darkness to it. The characters within the world were a different story.I never felt fully invested in any of the characters. I was never sold on any of their personalities, and never felt like they grew. Then, of course, there was the bullying.Bullying is not necessarily a trigger for, though I was bullied in high school, but in this story, it was pretty intense. Definitely hard to read at times, and something I felt needed to be mentioned. Yes, it was part of the story and made for some shocking moments in the plot, and with the characters, but it was a pretty heavy theme.Overall, I still really enjoyed the book. Despite my negative tone in my review, Holly still made me feel while I was involved in the book. I felt like I was in a dream the entire time. It was vividly enchanting and full of beauty, intrigue, and some shocking and entertaining moments. I loved the ending, and was left wanting more. I will definitely be reading the next book! 3.5-4 stars.adrienne (darquedreamer).m
I adored this story. I loved the dark, cruel, magical and manipulative world of the faeries and the characters who reside there. I loved the depth, the imperfection and how the story wasn't riddled with cliche. It was refreshing to read about faerie teenagers who are actually…well, teenagers. Flawed. Angsty. The way Holly writes is magical too. Her prose is visually descriptive, layered and beautiful to read, yet it's simple. Digestible. It's probably why it's so easy to binge read her books.Liana

Reviews:
I've started reading this book, and I have to say it's utterly gripping. The prologue sets the scene of a bloody climax of an historic event, that weaves its way seamlessly into the protagonists lifetime. Its engaging and rich in description and world building but without being too 'heavy' going. Making this an exciting rich and masterfully written fantasy epic. I would thoroughly reccomend it to anyone seeking to be transported a legendary place and time, filled with magic, adventure and combat.merchantofvenice-3519
The Eye of the World novel, by Robert Jordan, creates a rich and colourfully imagined universe. Readers will be quickly charmed by and emersed in the well written local cultures and lore. Also, it is effortless to relate with the characters who are realistic and engaging. Jordan's plot focuses on three unlikely heroes: Rand, a simple sheepherder, Perrin, a thoughtful blacksmith and Mat, a likeable rogue. All three have their lives turned upside down when their sleepy home town of the Two Rivers is suprised by a horde of bloodthirsty Trollics (evil man-beasts). The three boys are told by a mysterious traveller Moirane that they are 'taver'en' (those who are able to manipulate unwittingly the fabric that governs the universe). These three must leave their home as they are sought by The Dark One (the novel's protagonist) and travel to the Eye of the World, which is a source of immense magical power. Their task is to stop The Dark One who is threating to use it to remake the world in his own image. Will the three small town farmboys be able to take on the immense power of The Dark One? What will they discover about their destiny in the process? The fantasy elements of the novel are top notch, with the main magical system being 'The One Power'. The One Power exists in a select few individuals who are able to tap into this personal source and manipulate the five elements(earth, fire, wind, water and spirit), to do everything from light a fire to heal a person who is mortally wounded. The twist to this inner power is that only women can touch it safely (Saidar) and men who touch the source (Saidin) will eventually go mad and die, killing those they love. This Ying Yang tension is key to the themes of the novel. This approach to magic is refreshing and leads to many moral conflicts within the novel itself. The cultures and lands in the Wheel of Time series are not only rich and imaginative, but have had all aspects considered, even down to marriage rights and political intrigue! Though this is a fantasy novel at heart, all of the races are original. You won't see your predictable Orcs and Elves in this text! This makes the world of this fantasy novel very realistic, yet also inventive. The main characters are not perfect and have real flaws that readers can relate to (for example, Mat having a penchant for gambling and girls!!!) The storyline is satisfying, which at its heart is a traditional Greek plot of good versus evil. Overall, Jordan's orignal style of prose, delightful descriptions and indepth, realistic cultures add a depth to the story which makes this novel refreshing and will keep you turning pages to the conclusion. Cassie FosterDavid
I absolutely loved this book. While it's hard to come up with a truly original story anymore, Robert Jordan has created an incredible world that feels both familiar and strange at the same time. His characters truly breathe and the classic good vs. evil plot line is comforting with enough new spins to keep it fresh. I love the strong female characters; it's rare in high fantasy to exalt the woman's power and I applaud the author for doing so. Rich and inviting, I can't wait to explore the next installments of this series.SARAH

There are many things I could say about this book. But the one thing which always comes into mind is "I WANT MORE". I finished the book within a couple of days of receiving my book and I was left grueling for more. Reviews:
Martin changes the narrative structure from GoT: this is a longer chronicle that stretches multiple decades (more than a century) and covers the rise of House Targaryen. It moves at a much faster pace that the earlier series. A good read, and I got a good deal on the book: slightly used, but like new.ranwulf
I was excited to get this book because I love "The Game of Thrones " books so much but I must admit that I wasn't expecting alot from it. I am happy to write that I was so wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed every paragraph. It more than met my expectations & exceeded them by miles. I loved every page & can't wait for the 2nd one!Forrest
I wanted to like this book but it was a real chore to finish it. I can't believe how boring it was! Sad. Even as a concordance it reads like a poorly put together laundry list. I bought this thinking it would be an interesting read-wrong. I ended up irritated instead of entertained. On a happier note The Hedge Knight series is a real joy. I should have skipped this one.kate

Reviews:
Wonderful book, couldn't put it down. One of the best authors I have come across and I would highly recommend him for all readers, his writing is so easy to read and absolutely compelling. You should probably read his other books in the Kingkiller Chronicles series first, but it is not essential in my view. This book stands on its own like a little jewel in its own right, making you want to know more but ultimately leaving you satisfied.racetek2
The book I actually bought by accident thinking it was the 3rd book in the series, but it's more of a background story to a non-main character book instead. It hasn't been mentioned why this character appears to have a mental condition which leads her to a very unique pattern of thinking and the book follows those thoughts to allow the reader to better understand the character. It was not an easy read and you have to appreciate a little bit of crazy (non-violent). There weren't any spoilers about the 3rd book, but I did get a bit more information to base a guess around. Welcome fan theories!Jason

Reviews:
Upon receiving the book the 800 odd pages left me startled and procrastinating starting the read. I was expecting to have to drag out this read and just get it over and done with so as to not waste my money. However, I have never read a book of this size so bloody quickly. The definition of a page-turner. With an ever-thickening plot and what seems to be never-ending character developments, one can find themselves very quickly submerged into the starkly unique world of Crescent City. Maas has created a world where the reader can find similarities to our own world, allowing for deeper connections, often subliminal, between readers and characters and the socio-political space we both exist within to emerge. Now it's onto book #2 in the Cresent City world.Erin
I did not know how much I needed this book in my life, Hel I missed SJM's writing so much and how she can create this massive detailed world but also create character's that are so easy to fall deeply in love with. I have to admit I did dislike Bryce in the beginning but she grew on me, much like Aelin did {sorry not sorry, Feyre} but in the end she was such a rebel, how can you not rally beside her. This book tore my heart to ribbons in the minutes that I read it, I will admit it did have some not so interesting parts but perhaps I was more concerned with that budding relationship between Bryce and Hunt. {I mean hello, let's all admit that was one hell of a ride} Hunt is nothing compared to Rhysand, it's a close call from me. Character development is on point in this one and I do miss SJM's way of making banter between the companions. I will say though Ruhn is quite possibly my favourite character which surprised me so I am keen to see where the next books take them and can we please see more of Tharion because he was such an interesting character. Highly recommend this for all Maas fans. Now give me the next book please because my life is now in utter darkness until it comes out.delphineandeyre
I can't even begin to describe how amazing this book was. I could not put it down, and if I had to put it down, all I could think about was picking it back up. Sarah never fails to amaze me with the worlds and characters she creates, and she single-handedly did it again with House of Earth Blood. The world-building is just phenomenal and picturesque atmosphere of this new world is just mind-blowing. The characters are so greatly written, and you can't but fall in love with all of them. As Sarah's first adult novel this was somewhat different to previous series' such as Throne of Glass or A Court of Thorns and Roses, but it still has all the characteristics of a Sarah J Maas novel everyone knows and loves with just a little more steam…WHICH I LOVED!!! I seriously cannot wait to see what is install for the rest of the Crescent City series and what will happen to Bryce and Hunt as their adventure continues, because House of Earth and Blood just left me needing more and there is no way I can wait another year.Sophia

Reviews:
I will never be able, to even put into words, how truly BRILLIANT this book series is. I have never read ANYTHING like it. WHAT an imagination. This has to be, the most underrated book out there, that TRULY deserves to be read! The imagination of this Author, is like nothing I have ever read before and isn't that what we are ALL looking for? That one of a kind story, that is like no other, that takes us away, keeping us totally enthralled, never wanting to put it down. Let me put it this way, in the very beginnings of this book, you find out that a particular character has already died and when it comes to the point, later in the books, where I found out how they died, I cried. I never cry over books, yet even knowing this character was already dead, I cried when I read the scene. THAT is what an amazing Author this is. This book is filled with a unique magic, one of a kind creatures and characters that will keep you guessing and I find it a shame, that because this book is not filled with excessive amounts of sex and violence, that it is not receiving the credit, it REALLY TRULY deserves!! ALL 5 stars ***** Read this book series, give it a chance. I admit it starts off a bit slow and it also hops back and forth in time but that is part of it's charm for me. Be patient, let it get going, introducing you to a world like no other, FINISH the ENTIRE series, you won't be sorry!!!Robin P

I have heard many fantastic reviews about this series. I have not officially started them yet but I love how the set looks! I like how the books are compact and easy to carry around. I'll be a little sad that the other two books won't be the same but I'll get over it. The package came on time like always and there was absolutely no damage to the books. I love how BAM always takes care in packaging their items to make sure they are not damaged while shipping.Rachael
I didn't realize that it was a miniature set when I got it, but it's cute in its own right. the text is large enough to read without getting a headache. the books seem to be of good quality and the case/stand really tops it off. This makes a fantastic gift a cool decorative set when you're not reading it.Matt H

Reviews:
These were being offered at a very attractive price and I finally decided to buy. I've seen odd snippets of the films and thought to try the books; very pleased I did. Films can never keep more than three narrative threads going unlike a book and with these I have lost count of the number of threads running through the tale. They can be read straight through as you would normally read a book or you can use chapter headings and read through an individual thread and see what one person in the tale is doing. Don't expect happy endings though George Martin tells it as you would expect those times to be where the unlikable survive and the likable end up dead or maimed. And when you have read through, start again because this is a tale so tightly written with events and characters intertwining it will take several reads to fully get to grips with it. And then prepare yourself for the next book in what promises to be a never ending saga.
As an avid game of thrones fan, naturally I felt like getting the ASOIAF books for cheap. Postage was quick and the item arrived in immaculate condition, with a free poster map of Westeros and a part of Essos. The box that contains the book set has kinda teared slightly on the edges however. The box has been made to be maybe a bit too tight so take care when taking out books and putting them back in. Overall excellent service from The Works. Would recommend the box set especially at this price! Currently on book 2 and I thought A Game of Thrones was a compelling read, so the actual content is fantastic as well. If you're a GOT fan, make sure you have this on your bookshelf.ansbha-5243
Missed the series when shown on TV, so bought the books to accompany the film series, also recently purchased. Have only just started to read the first novel, but already I am captivated by the detail and the compelling and thrilling storyline. Looking forward to reading through and watching each of the episodes in turn.wyndhams52

Reviews:
After an extensive search, I finally found the book I like at a super nice price. All I want to do is read an easy-to-read print story. Nice pictures and super fold-out maps are cool but not that important to me. Price/need ratio! I first read this and the Hobbit in 1972, small paperbacks, I wonder how I did it…young eyes. The first edition I ordered 1988, ISBN: 0395489326, 3 book set after seeing pro and cons on the print. Even on Youtube. Second edition. I immediately knew I was not keeping this book. The print is dark, thick and then faded in the same sentence. Like bold and regular print mixed! The small letter ‘a’ would sometimes just be a black blotch, along with the small letter ‘e’ with no white showing! Terrible to read comfortably. Awful edition. Do not buy this one. On further reviews, I ordered both 2013 ISBN 0544273443 PB AND 2005 ISBN 0618645616 HC. Got them today. The HC has a different display on the dust cover then shown here at Walmart, see Amazon, with a plain black cover underneath; nice white paper; the paperback (heavy, suede cover actually, with nice design that nice on the eyes as you see) has light tan paper. Crisp, clean text. Nice paper. On both. They 'look' like the same 'printed' book in different formats. Page numbers and text are the same in both. I chose the 'paperback'. Very nice book. I like the curves it has, that, like one commenters' wife noted, he said, it does look like a bible!! The curves give it a 'style' that's different from a normal square hard cover book. And saved money in the end, too. The print still is a little small for my liking, but I can read it comfortably with the cheaters because the printing is crisp and the tan paper is easy on the eyes. I'm 67. I also bought the Green book of The Hobbit. 1973, ISBN # 0395177111. Excellent edition, leatherette covers, large, crisp print. Some nice pictures with a large map. Not foldout. If I could read 'Under the Dome', twice in a row, I liked it that much, I can read this size print, too!Joseph
This book is beautiful. I'm very happy with my purchase. Just be careful because it's not a true hardcover. The cover is firmer than a paperback, but it's still rather flexible, like one of those faux leather books. It's not leather, but I don't really know what it it. It has a velvety feel to it.Book Nerd
Tolkien was a master of his art and way ahead of his time. He set the worlds stage for every fantasy novel to come. The Lord of the Rings is an amazing trilogy of epic proportions. It's great for the advanced elementary school reader and the old granny alike. The first novel is fast paced and action filled and make you fall in love with each of the characters. The rich descriptions of the Middle Earth make you feel like you are actually there. If you have seen the movie I suggest going back and reading the books because there is still a lot that couldn't be included and some things that just can't be captured right on screen. If you have a young reader who has finished Harry Potter and is looking for the next fantasy world to loose themselves in hand him/her this.felicia.e

So excited to read thisRachel
If you'd told me a couple of days ago that I'd be recommending a cozy fantasy book to everyone who crosses my path, I doubt I would have believed you. But here we are. An orc walks away from her old life to open a coffee shop. In a city where almost no one has even heard of "exotic bean water". And that's pretty much the crux of the story, give or take. At face value it sounds kinda cute but nothing I'd expect to be enthusiastically shoving in people's faces, telling them how much they'll love it. Viv's story felt like a comfort read from very early on and I can easily see this being a go to read when I need some time out. I adored Viv, Tandri, Hem, Thimble, Pendry and Cal individually but together this diverse group of kindred spirits felt like home (the good kind). I love that Viv was able to let go of the life that was expected of her and find a bunch of supportive friends who could see beyond her past to who she truly was, friends that encouraged her in her new venture and who had her back. "If mortal danger threatens us, I promise to hide behind you. Deal?" While Tandri was my favourite character, I also had a soft spot for Pendry. I enjoyed cheering them on as they gained the confidence to step outside their comfort zone. I absolutely need a dire-cat in my life. Favourite no context quote: "Things don't have to stay as what they started out as" I'm giving this book however many hm's it takes to fill five stars and can't wait to meet more of Thune's inhabitants in the author's next book. In the meantime, I'd like to order a bean water with milk and a heavenly frosted cinnamon pastry please. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Tor, an imprint of Pan Macmillan, for the opportunity to read this book.Schizanthus Nerd

Reviews:
I enjoy historical fiction novels especially set in the Roman or Celtic era, so having read an article on Juliet Marillier, I decided to try the first book in her Sevenwaters trilogy. I read the first book (this one)and found it to be entertaining and had lots of historical information from this period and a good story line. The only issue I have with this trilogy (I am now halfway through the final book) is the venture into fantasy e.g. when the brothers got turned into swans by a sorceress. If you can cope with the unreality aspect, then it is still enjoyable. I preferred the novels by Jules Watson e.g. The White Mare as they are set in a similar period of history but stay within the boundaries of believable events.dianec5910
