Reviews:
We're getting ready for the harder teenage years, and wanted to get ahead of the communication issues we know will come. This was a highly recommended to us from multiple sources. It is a good sensible way to approach these teenage dramas. There is no golden plated solid bullet proof process, however there are good sensible guides we can use and follow to make our family life better during these years – whether they end up being challenging or not. It's a topic that needs numerous nooks, and this needs to be one of them.HolidayMarsh

I loved the characters in these books so much. It's a fabulous story full of Witches, Vampires, demons, and history all spun into a grown up fantasy. No kid stuff in this book!Marianna
I got the first book from the library and was so invested, I had to buy the set. If you like witches, vampires and demons this are the books for you! Making all three creatures interact, in a good way, with humans, time travel, dispelling myths and creating new ones are just a tiny part of these enthralling books!Kas

4. Lois Lowry: The Giver [Paperback]
Product Details:
Soon to be a major motion picture, the giver, the 1994 newbery medal winner, has become one of the most influential novels of our time. the haunting story centers on twelve-year-old jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. not until he is given his life assignment as the receiver of memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. lois lowry has written three companion novels to the giver, including gathering blue, messenger, and son.
Reviews:
I bought this book for my 11yo son during the iso period to keep him busy and apparently, he has read this as part of reading prog in year 4! So he recommended that I've read it and I'm on the last chapter now. It's been decades since I burnt the midnight oil so I'm on the last chapter now before I can watch the giver movie by Meryl Streep! The book talks a community living in a "dome" where it's climate control, memories with held and lives a very structure livelihood akin to communism somehow but with supernatural powers. Reminds me bit of the Truman show by Jim Carey where it's all not true but a virtual world!JT
Jonas lives in a community that appears, on first acquaintance, to be perfect. It's a world without crime, and with no unemployment—and therefore no poverty—nobody has to suffer hunger pangs, never mind the torment of starvation and homelessness. All members of a family unit share the experiences and “feelings” of their day each evening and nobody lies. Or so Jonas believes. Only when he learns that his lifetime job is to be the Receiver (taking on all the memories of both pain and joy that have been banished from his society, and being given permission to lie) does he realise the community's creators have banished even more good than evil from his society. Jonas and his tutor, the previous Receiver, to whom he gives the title the Giver, decide that the cost of their stable society is too high … Jonas's community clearly doesn't cover the whole world in which it is set, and one doesn't even have to travel over water to reach “Elsewhere”, of which there are hints relatively early in the book. Most members of the community clearly believe that this is where people who are “released” go. Young readers possibly might not guess the truth here but I'm sure adult readers will. For a book with such a complex set-up The Giver is amazingly short at fewer than 200 pages. If it had been a novel for adults I think it would have contained a lot more detail on how this utopian society was set up, because it does leave you asking questions about it. Lowry does, however, give enough detail for the purpose of her story and she handles it deftly, never getting in the way of the forward motion of the plot and therefore taking the risk of boring young readers. I was amazed to hear that The Giver was on the list of "most challenged" books for 2000, on the grounds of "being sexually explicit, having occult themes, violence". I didn't see anything in it that was inappropriate for its audience of young adults and anything of a sexual nature was hinted at rather than "explicit". The Giver is a thoroughly gripping read and beautifully written.
This is an incredible book and I loved every minute of it. The story line is intriguing from the beginning – set in the future it tells the story of a 'perfect' society that exists where everyone home is uniform. Pain and sadness are unknown in this seemingly perfect world. In the community exists a 'giver' who has been given memories from the past. The book tells the story of Jonas, a 12 year old boy, who has been chosen to receive memories of pain and sadness. He goes on a journey of discovery to see the real meaning behind what is happening in his community. Lois Lowry has done an amazing job writing this book. It toys with the idea of taking away choice from people's lives and creating a world where everyone and everything are very uniform. Her interpretation of that kind of world is simply intriguing. A great read and I would recommend it to anyone.

Reviews:
I loved this series as a child in school, and I was super excited to get a full set for myself. Especially when it was on sale! 3.50$ a piece seemed like a great deal. To my dismay, the books arrived sealed in plastic but damaged. The first book was very scuffed at the top. The fifth book had what looked like water/glue damage to the spine. I pulled them out of the container, and all of them had some small form of wear and tear. The overall quality is not great either – the covers are very thin and could easily be torn. If you’re looking for a cheap set for yourself – only get this on sale. I would not recommend as a gift because of the damage and poor quality.Kate
When I was teaching 6th grade I read all of the books in this series. They were a favorite among my students. I could never keep them on the shelf. I have shared this series with a number of my friends and family. Now that my nephew is at that level I am excited for him to find out the joy of reading and of following a well done storyline.KHuff
When I found the Percy Jackson boxset online for a good price, I was stoked. but then I opened the package. Despite the protection, the box containing the 5 books came damaged, and creased. Like it was used or something. I expected this to come brand new! What a joke. But at least I got 5 books in good condition.Iheanyi

Reviews:
I have loved all books by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and this one was no exception! I was hooked from the very first chapter and I loved how distinct the voice of Avery was. I loved meeting the large cast of characters that all had their set of quirks, and the mystery aspect was impeccable! There were so many sub-mysteries that were woven into the main mystery of why Avery has inherited this fortune, and it had me losing my mind! In a good way! It was all wrapped up so well, yet a massive cliffhanger at the end has me eager for the next one!Lexi
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Barnes is an must read for middle schoolers. I purchased the book for my middle school library. I try to read as many YA books that I can. I brought this book home to read and couldn't stop reading. The can't wait to recommend it to my students. I think Barnes left the ending open to a sequel which I hope happens. An absolute must read.TAB
This was a real page turner , what would you do if you just inherited a fortune from someone you don't know , the catch being there is a family to deal with , why didn't they inherit the money? this book left me wanting more, although questions are answered there are more and more mysteries at every turn .Lynj

Inspired by a true story (or photograph), the main character, who snaps a picture of two children next to a for-sale sign, inadvertently causes the children to be separated from their mother. He then, with the help of his friend and colleague (and maybe love interest😉😉), embark on a mission to reconnect the kids with their mother. 5/5⭐️KIM
Purchased to read when I have some spare time. Looks very interesting. A friend recommended it so I look forward to reading it.sharonm_happy_shopper
The title of this book drew me in, but as I turned the pages the plot got better and better. Yes, most of what happens here I never saw coming, but it reads like real life, things you really don't know about another person. Once you finish the book, which really didn't take me long, I had to have answers, make sure you read the author's notes. Yes, sadly it is based on a true story, not the actual story, but I could see how the author used parts of it and then the reality of what happened through the eyes of the writer became even clearer. This one becomes a compelling page turner, and pulls in a lot of different areas, and how they all pulled together, you don't want to miss this one! I received this book through EdelweissPlus and the Publisher Sourcebooks, and was not required to give a positive review.MaureenT

Wow! Honestly If you're thinking of buying this book stop and just buy it. This book has honestly changed my life. I suffer from OCD and other mental illnesses. I could relate to this book on so many levels . Type of book i will push my family and friends to read.BossLadyXtina
After getting back into reading after some time, this was the perfect start. It was so well written and an relatively easy read, didn't want to put it down! it perfectly captured the feelings of OCD that are not always discussed. Definitely recommend! one of those books i wish i could erase and read again!!Ally
Such a good book , I really loved This one . Although it is said to be about a girl with ocd it's a lot more than that , and although it is incorporated and talked about throughout the whole story it is not in depth enough about the actual disorder which I enjoyed because the story it's self is incredible , however it is still very mental health surrounded . I loved this book very much and it does indeed have a plot twist which I found so very intriguing . I loved it ! .Hay

Absolutely love read the first three within barely three days, extremely addictive all you want to do it continue the book. Wish there was more.MayVik
the books are incredible love them. you shouldered them. but when got the books in the mail all of them had a small circle the cover advertising a book. so annoying and does not make the books as attractiveJohn
My niece gave my daughter the first book in this series. My daughter became enthralled instantly. She has never read a whole book series and usually sticks to graphic novels. She will occasionally read a chapter book but not often. She begged for this full series. I was delighted to oblige her. It was out of stock most places and she was visible shaken at the thought of there being a time lapse between her reading each book! I thought, wow, this is good. I’ve been waiting for a series to really capture her attention like this and expand her reading away from graphic novels some. Not that I don’t like them but I wanted her to see how enjoyable bigger, wordier books can be. I found the series here on Target ready to ship! We even got it a day early which was perfect because she had just finished the 1st book. That was a little over a week ago and she’s already on the 4th book. She is so proud of herself and so in love with these books. I believe some themes may be a bit mature in these. I’ve only read about 30 pages of the companion novel to the selection set (1st three books). It’s called happily ever after and sold separately. I think it is fine for my daughter as she’s read some books already with very mature themes. She is 11 and a half. Like anything else, you are the best judge of what’s appropriate for your child, there are plenty of excerpts online to read a few pages.Miesh

Reviews:
This book did a great job of keeping me on edge. I didn’t want to put it down but I definitely isn’t a romance novel. While it does have its those elements it’s more a story of love overall and the importance of relationships. The ending did get a bit predictable but that’s justified by the fact that we as the reader can piece things together through previous knowledge. Overall a very fun read! I would recommend it to those who enjoy the young adult genre 🙂Cait
I was captivated by the first few chapters but I have to admit that the many of the middle chapters were a little slow. I love the relationship between the two friends although the relationship between Dannie and her fiancé could be a little frustrating and slow at times. The ending was a touching surprise and even caused me to reread Chapter 3 (you'll know what I mean once you read the book!). I definitely recommend.Jreyes
Thanks to Atria Paperback/Simon and Schuster Publishers for a gifted copy. All comments and opinions are my own. This 3.5 star book had a lot of buzz when it first came out in 2020. I received a gifted copy from the publisher in 2021 but just recently read it in May 2022. I didn't intentionally put it off, but it took the suggestion from my friend Val that we both read it and then discuss together to make me pick it up. And it turned out to be a different type of book than I thought. No matter how others have labeled this novel, it is not a romance, but a story of friendship, best girlfriend friendship. This is about two long-time best friends who live in New York City, both single but different in so many ways. Dannie is organized and has her life planned out – her career, her boyfriend and now fiancé, her budget, and her future – including where she will be in five years. Bella is the "poor little rich girl" – wild, whimsical, impulsive, and believes in fate. After accepting her boyfriend's marriage proposal and receiving her dream job offer both on the same day, Dannie falls asleep. When she awakens she's with a totally different (and sexy) guy, a different apartment, a different engagement ring – and it's five years in the future. She tells herself it's a dream and files it away in the back of her mind. But four-and-a-half years later she meets Bella's latest boyfriend, who is the very same guy from that long-ago premonition/vision/dream/alternate reality. That's the set-up but it isn't the story you're expecting. And you'll need tissues. Even though there are aspects of the plot and the characters I would argue with, and some things I would have changed completely, I still found myself engrossed and emotionally caught up in the story. This would make a great book group read and I'm looking forward to discussing with my friend.PhyllisE

Reviews:
very intense, and original, hard to find a good read like this, i highly recommend this book.Ron
It was too repetitive in spots, altho it made you think about the decision that the 2 men had to make, the background story didn't give enough info to warrant the 'life or death' decision they had to make. Ending was lame. I really wouldn't recommend this book, or if you do want to read it, find the cheapest copy to buy.tah716
I read this as an e-book. it's not my favorite by Tremblay (that honor still belongs to "A Head Full of Ghosts"), but it is a tragic, touching horror/thriller novel. I wasn't sure about the premise at first, but i found myself holding my breath and silently praying for this family during the home invasion. there is a heartbreaking death, and a lot of violence, bit if these types of books are your jam, you cannot skip this one!
