Reviews:
My husband and I read this to each other on a road trip across the country. We read it cover to cover and by the time we got home we knew every Mr Olympia, exactly what exercises to do and how many grams of protein to eat. A lot of the information we already knew but he presented the science in a way that improved our understanding. Suitable for the complete novice right through to those looking to complete. In fact any body who gives a hoot about their health and fitness would gain something from this book. If you want the latest fad in diet and exercise then this is not for you, if you want good old fashioned advice that works then but this book. Then read it out loud, doing your best Arnie impersonation.MrsBevo
It doesn't matter if you actually want to compete as a bodybuilder (I don't or is that 'can't'…) if you're interested in changing your body shape by lifting weights correctly this is the only book you'll need. Hours of Instagram scrolling will be cut out by the detailed, factual and interesting content in this book. If you want to work towards achieving a better body, who better to model yourself on than Arnold Schwarzenegger? It's not just one style of training either, Arnold offers several ways to train. Use this in addition to watching some interviews of his and you'll soon be hooked and developing your own workouts to challenge yourselves – or just follow his! Well worth it – I'll never need another workout book again. If this book wears out, I'll replace it with another copy. Excellent.shafei1
Have just started body building and found this book a wonderful guide, it not only covers exercises but also diet muscle building and overall well being. I'd recommend it to beginners or the more experienced .Ajax

It gives a good explination of workout planning, proper exercise form.dealseeker909
The book is tailored towards novice to intermediate trainees looking to improve strength, covering the basics of warm-up, training and nutrition with detailed explanations, anecdotes and diagrams where appropriate. It includes a 12-week training program that can be done at any decent gym. Eric Cressey (author) is one of the leading strength and conditioning coaches in the world and practices what he preaches. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in improving strength for sport or general purposes that has at least a small amount of weight training experience under their belt.
I really like this book. It had great information. However, it is almost impossible to do some of these workouts with a home gym. I would have loved it if I had all the equipment needed to do his program at home but I don't. If you are looking for an intense workout that you can do at the gym this would be the book to have. IF you have a home gym then it might be difficult to complete all of his program.rainrun7

So much information in this book !! There are many exercises with clear photos & descriptions, plus the chapter on nutrition is very informative. I only wish i'd bought it sooner !!marsteven_98
This is a great book with good pictures demonstrating the different excercises. It also goes through the benefits of working each muscul group. One of the problems I find is that it doesn't tell you the benefits of the different forms of the exercies, ie arms at shoulder width or with a wide grip. It also has a bit of an American emphasis at times. But overall well worth getting.
Great book. Great exercisea and a ton of health information. This is the 1st editiin though. The 2nd edition has 50 more pages.budo2112
16. Joe Weider's Ultimate Bodybuilding [Book]
Product Details:
"this massive and authoritative master blaster book is the greatest bodybuilding book ever written, primarily because it is firmly based on the training principles of the weider system of bodybuilding, which have been followed by literally every bodybuilder in the modern history of the sport. i began developing my weider system back in the 1930s and continue to refine and add new weider training principles to it. you can rely on the information i present in this book to improve your physique. good luck!" — joe weider on instinctive training "one of the most fundamental secrets of successful bodybuilding is getting to know your body and how it reacts to various training and nutritional practices. unless you have finely honed your instinctive training ability, it will take many weeks, even months, to evaluate each experiment. it definitely pays to master the weider instinctive training principle." — franco columbo, two-time mr. olympia on progression "the key to building massive, powerful muscles is to doggedly increase the training weights you use. but it is only good to increase training poundage if you do so in perfect form. there is a direct correlation between the amount of weight you use with perfect biomechanics in an exercise and the mass of muscles that move that weight." — lee haney, three-time mr. olympia on muscle confusion "once i reached the advanced level of bodybuilding and started entering competitions, i discovered that i quickly became bored with a set training program. i began to use the weider muscle confusion principle, changing to a new and more challenging routine every time i came into the gym to bomb a particular body part." — lou ferrigno on supersets "since supersets constitute a big jump in training intensity, i always tell bodybuilders new to the weider supersets training principles to experiment with supersets, compounding movements for the biceps and triceps, or forearm flexors and forearm extensors." — albert beckles, ifbb world pro grand prix champion

I bought this book for my 15 year old son. It has fantastic, thorough information on the how-to's for pretty much everything. But we are both put off by the images of over-sized men. He would be more inspired by images of average sized body builders who look 'normal', not like the Hulk lol.akella-la
Pretty much every thing you ever wanted to know about bodybuilding and weightlifting.Very informative well laid out. A must for beginner to expert bodybuilder/weightlifterjr1138773

Reviews:
Really good read but book was pretty beat up, my original copy was in better shape and I bought it 34 years ago. The binding on it was coming loose but the book wasn't torn up. This is the only reason this copy was rated at 4 stars.dr7511_14vqmc
Therdis a lot of good information in this book for the beginnung bidy builder. The book reads easily and quickly for its size. I do wish Arnold went into more detail in some sections as this will feel like review of the basics for most people who are already into body building. Overall, good book!lyndon603
Text is clear and specific. Photos–and there are MANY–are excellent. Anatomical drawings are excellent and very helpful. All exercises are described VERY accurately, including what NOT to do or how NOT to do it. Great chapters on routines, diet, injuries. Index is HUGE and easy to find what you're looking for there. An old copy like this is just as good as one publshed yesterday. Some things never change! I keep it by my weightlifting gear and refer to it VERY often. This book IS an encyclopedia. This book is geared towards "free weights" not fancy exercise equipment. If you like the clang of metal weights and getting down on your hands and knees to change the poundage on the bar, this is the book for you. This is not a book for yuppies, but it is a book for ALL ages and ALL body types. And best of all, it's VERY inspirational. It helps you build YOUR body, not look like Arnold Schwarzenegger. I've had my copy since about 1982.aim2please2003

De Lavier's two books make up the holy bible of weight training and home exercising. The detail is masterly and the illustrations are incomparable. They are the only books you will need.CHARLES V.
You can probably find it online for free, but it is so much better to have it on paper. Illustrations are beautiful and on point. One of the books you always come back to, so its high quality paper really matters.rollingonthe
This is the best book of its kind. It is the only one you will ever need to answer those elusive questions we all have about muscle structure and their relationship to our connective tissue. This books a visual delight. Everything you would ever want to know or have ever read about the anatomy of our muscle structure is illustradted perfectly in here for you review. I can not praise this book enough. If you are an athlete with questions or a parient wanting to educate your child, then this is the best way to go. Some people learn and understand topics from reading about them while other learn and understand more with a visual add in the mix. This has both. But by far this has the best visual representation of the topic I have ever found. The cost of this is nothing compared to the benifits you will receive buying this book.wesselp1
