This is the definitive handbook for mushroom lovers in the UK: the illustrations and descriptions are clear and concise, and unlike some guides, it gives useful indications of edibility.robkay1953
I know this book quite well and bought it for friends with a wood – hope they also find it useful (whether or not 'compelling'). It's one of the books that mycologists who lead fungus walks recommend to the general public for identification of our native toadstools – edible and otherwise.. Thankyou for sending it to them on timehenrpr_75
The most comprehensive book on FungiI have seen. Great for home use but a tad heavy for a field guide. Good Photographs.gestupboy

Reviews:
As a newbie to mycology I found this book extremely readable, informative, and encouraging of my ability to improve my knowledge and skills, and learn to safely harvest some of the more common edible species in New England. Its not a reference volume, of which there are many, and they are usually not nearly as engaging for pleasure reading as is this title.dr.hand
It's an enjoyable way to learn more about mushrooms. My only criticism is that it is very USA centric both in style and in reference stories and pictures. It's very much the authors' personal stories, experiences and perspectives on mushroom hunting rather than a strictly factual encyclopaedia style reference book.JMac
There's a lot of information packed in this book with Vivid photographs. It's very enjoyable and informational.glass.chris

As a person in love with remediation potentials that are of bio origin, this book really got my mind running. It's even teaching me better ways to exchange information with others. I would definitely recommend if you are an advocate for environmental prosperity.cherieelektra

A magnificent outlook to all the most very important and specific types of psilocybe containing mushrooms. Great advice for having a good trip worth reading. History of christianity into the mix of older style spiritual use on it and how they interacted .. The first 3 pages of the history amazed and still amazes me with the knowledge and time ,beyond time we never thought there was humanity as we know it . Indeed an excellent suppliment to the book collection. I do not disagree with the other reviewers of the excellent compilation of the book. One must realize, this book does not contain a key to species of Psilocybe.Varisa Aschakulporn
It's a great book with lots of information, but the pictures aren't what I was hoping for. They seem dark and far off and the clarity should be better for the price.ikayak62_8
