Pros: This bag is incredibly spacious and has really nice compartments for storing your different items. Aesthetically it's incredibly pleasing as well. Cons: The DWR – Water Repellent system I didn't find satisfactory. After ~ 45 minutes in a light drizzle, the outer compartment was wet on the inside and it had begun seeping through into the main compartment. During a hike (sunny conditions), I managed to sweat through the FlexVent Suspension system to the point where the inside of the bag was wet.James
This is a great backpack, it's really comfortable, thoughtfully designed, easy to wear for an entire day, and has a lot of space for your stuff. Just an observation though – the "padded tablet sleeve" in the front pocket is missing in the 2022 version (compared to earlier versions) – TNF please update your product description as it's a bit misleading. There is a laptop sleeve / area in the main compartment which could fit a tablet comfortably though – but not both a laptop and a tablet as it's quite tight.Jonathan
I've now taken this backpack on two trips, and really love it! The padded, cellular back and shoulder straps are really comfortable even when the pack is loaded. The front pocket only goes halfway down the bag, which took some getting used to. You can't put too much weight in it or the bag is very top-heavy. But I just made sure I put only light items in there and everything else in the main compartment. The side pockets are really useful for holding a water bottle and sunglasses case!alliso

My son unwrapped the bag that was just delivered and quickly put his things in before heading out for school today. When he came home, he mentioned that the bag had a hole in it. I asked him to show me the hole to see what we were working with thinking it was something small. The zipper and the side it should be sewn into either had the thread separate away or was never sewn to begin with. Not sure how this made it through Quality Control. I was pleasantly surprised at how supportive this bag feels while I'm wearing it, I feel like I could keep it on for a long time with no discomfort. It's a little costly but honestly, if you're getting a Kanken it's for the fashion and they do look great, every color I've seen has been pleasant to look at. Build quality is rock solid, no visible seams or stitches are apparent. The boxy shape of this bag is best for carrying books (or in my case, board games) but I've found myself gravitating to this one as my go-to city bag for the comfort and convenience of the top carry handles. I wouldn't really recommend this for hiking though, the water bottle pockets are tiny and the back has no ventilation. If you're getting this as a fashionable work or school bag I think you'll be really pleased.Garrett W
Unfortunately I’m going to have to give this bag a 3 out of 5 stars. These bags are very expensive and durable, but not durable enough to withstand the washer and dryer.. I bought the kånken bag to use as a diaper bag. I thought since this is a fabric bag, I could pop it into the wash if it got dirty- I was wrong.You will ruin your bag if you put in through a washing cycle! It is hand wash only. When you wash it you have to use mild dish soap or detergent. The backpack is 100% vinyl… so basically it’s a dirt magnet. I ended up hand washing mine with baby soap and a tooth brush. I let it soak in warm water with oxyclean for 10 mins then went in with the baby soap and tooth brush… nothing. So then I used a magic eraser. The magic eraser was more effective, but harsh on the material.. it also didn’t get all the dirt and grime out of the crevices of the backpack.
Overall I think this is a good durable product. However if I’m spending $80+ on a cloth backpack, I would expect that it could handle the washing machine considering how easily this fabric gets dirty. If you’re looking to buy one, just make sure it’s a dark color that won’t easily show stains or dirt..Jacqueline Rodriguez
I’ve been using fjallraven backpacks for years now and this is my third backpack. I got it because I adore the lavender colour, but do note that I didn’t let go of my previous ones because it was broken. They were still in excellent condition considering it’s been through travels, but I simply wanted to switch up the colours. They’re popular for a reason and they are truly comfortable for daily use and travelling. I think the only thing I’d note is that the straps do hurt during the summer when you’re wearing a tank top and especially if your backpack is heavy. The regular backpack fits a 13” mac book even if you don’t get the one specifying that it’s 13inch. You could fit quite a lot in it actually and it’s perfect for school and work.jennifer.t

I purchased this a few weeks ago to use on day hikes around the trails in my neighborhood park. Lots of pockets to store items such as extra clothes for the kiddos, lunch box, wallet, hand sanitizer, etc. Water bottles fit all different sizes and keep other items secure as well. Hasn’t been warm enough to test the breathability of the back vents, but looks like it shouldn’t be an issue. Bag is made to stand up on its own, and as long as their isn’t anything too heavy in the top pocket, it does just that. Some threads showing through on the back vent, not noticeable unless examine seams, but 4 out 5 stars to the North Face for that. Great color too. Price comparable to what’s on big box store websites, purchased from Moosejaw to support small business and earn moose points 🙂 Second purchase from this company so far, will continue to search for needed products here.HadiB
As a preface I commute to work via bicycle 5 days a week, 2.5 miles each way. I upgraded to this bag from a $25 day bag i had bought off amazon, and have been using it for about 2 weeks now, maybe points in my review will change as i break in the bag more. i have considered going back to using my old bag so ill start with negatives. The zippers do not open smoothly when trying to pull the pocket open with one hand, so you have to unzip each zipper deliberately. the arm straps are a concern: when pulling on the backpack the straps get stuck on my wrists, i pulled a little harder to get the straps to slide on and heard a popping like the stitching was ripping, when riding the straps bunch at the neck so to prevent chaffing i have to pull my shirt up to cover the area. there are only 2 pockets but at least they are plenty big. the flex vent is a gimmick and does nothing to stop me from showing up to work with sweaty back. lastly the water bottle pockets on the side are worthless for actually holding bottles because they are shallow and loose, ive already had my canteen fly out, i had to turn around to grab it out of traffic, not good. for some positives: the backpack looks nice, quite minimalistic, lots of room inside, i can fit a bike helmet with room for a lunch bag, laptop, hand bike pump and other small misc things. lots of adjustability in the length of the arms and the chest strap is nice. overall id give this bag a solid 3/5 based on my application, still considering whether i want to go back to the amazon bag. if you are buying this bag and you drive everywhere im sure its a 4/5.sapntackle

I love JanSports backpacks. They are high quality and very durable. I bought my kid a JanSports backpack when she entered 1st grade and she has used it for every year until she entered 6th grade. This year we got this backpack for her because her last one was pink and as a Jr. High student, pink is not her color, but this pretty purple is. This backpack should last her through high school. This backpack is amazing! Very large and perfect for middle school and high school. There are seven pockets in total. Chromebook pocket (all the way in the back) , main pocket (which is HUGE) , second largest pocket (perfect for gym clothes) , a zipper pocket (perfect for your wallet or sunglasses) , a bigger zipper pocket which has the jansport logo on it (has an organizer with 3 pen slots and a pocket for your phone and a key holder more room for any pencils) , a small zip pocket (perfect for your phone, storing pencils and pens, or any hygeine products) , and one water bottle pocket. I've never been a purse user, and my foray into crossbody bags left much to desire. I've loved carrying everything I need in backpack, and backpacks are easily more comfortable to wear for me than purses are. I bought this because I adore celestial designs, and I love the quality that JanSport offers. I've been a JanSport backpack user since 1999 and have gotten my kids JanSport or Trans backpacks since they were in elementary school. The build of this backpack is nice, the zippers are large and durable, the pockets are nice and there's plenty of room for what I need to put in there. Sadly, there's no laptop sleeve (though I do have a different JanSport that does from college and can use that when carrying my laptop around), and the front zip pocket is very general-there aren't a lot of specific slots for things, which means I need to leave a lot of my stuff in separate bags to keep organized. The front pocket zipper does give me a little bit of a fit when I attempt to go around the corners, and the zippers tend to get stuck on the large pocket, but they're strong and large, so it makes it easier to get it unstuck and zip it correctly.RyJourn
Don’t listen to the good reviews they were probably paid to say that. I bought this bookbag for my daughter because she needed it for school. First of all, when it first arrived it was shoved and bent into a little tiny plastic bag that doesn’t even seem like it could fit a bookbag in! Second of all, it’s way too small. As I said, I bought it and expected her to be able to put school supplies in it. I was completely wrong. None of her school supplies even fit in there because it how small it is. I like that it has a side water bottle pocket but it's poorly designed. When I put my full water bottle in it, the weight of the water bottle pulls on the pocket and it almost goes sideways. I have been using Jansport's backpacks for almost 2 decades now, and I am deeply disappointed in this last purchase. I wanted to substitute a red "Right Pack" and this time chose the basic "Superbreak". I loved the Viking Red of my previous backpack, but the RUSSET RED I got this time is outrageous!!!! It is not a real red, it's a deep, dark magenta. Horrible! The WHITE LINING is also horrible! The water bottle POCKET is also to small to fit my regular 32 oz. Hydroflask. This pocket should be big enough to hold this or other bottles. I am very disappointed in these design mistakes. The material has changed and seems low quality. I've always had a Jansport but this backpack is definitely not in the same caliber and quality. Beware! I'm returning this right away!Denise
This backpack is mediocre at best. Could've been way better. I do like the color, I got the light blue one. Normally I use vera Bradley but I wanted to switch it up and regret it. Only one cup holder so it weighs down my bag on that side. Zipper is poor quality. I wish there was more pockets. However the biggest pocket is a decent size for folders and binders. If you ever had to put a sweatshirt or a lunchbox in this backpack along with folders you would have a problem, it wouldn't fit. Would not buy againAlyssa

I really like the back pack it fits everything i need and like the large side mesh pockets. The water proof is a BIG iffy just because it does keep stuff dry in the inside but the moister still makes its way in and will feel a little soggy?? in the inside. The two outside pockets are a different story the big outside pockets everything got wet inside of it good thing I only had pens and some headphones. But was completely socked. For light rains and quick short distance walks in the rain i think you will be ok but if you plan on going more of a half mile in the pouring rain expect to get some moister insidejulio
Happy to have received this bag for use after hating and fighting with the poor design of Carhartt's Hybrid bag. This bag is pretty much what I want, but note: CONS: The zipper pulls are not gold like shown, they are a boring darkish silver brass color. The "Tablet" pocket is just nylon, no padding, not sure why it's referred to as a tablet pocket. The front pocket's padded "phone" pocket isn't going to help you with a phone with a case at any size bigger than an iPhone5, not sure why bothering to pad it at all. PROS: The straps on this bag are super thick and supportive, The bag is very roomy, pocket organization in the front is nice, though the padded pocket isn't going to help you with a phone with a case at any size bigger than an iPhone5. I love the pack a lot, and I like the laptop pocket as well as the compartments in the outside pockets. I also really love the look of the pack, but there are certainly some downfalls. I am quite upset with the endurance of this bag, I have had it for less than a year and the zipper is falling apart by the day. It won't be long before the pack is unusable without repair. It is disappointing and also quite ironic considering the Carhartt clothing I own is the toughest clothing I own, I would have thought that the bag would stand up to the reputation. Sam LSam

The actual color is very different from what you see in the picture. The picture color is like hot pink, but the actual backpack is more like a cross between red and purple. Also, the handle neither locks into the 'up' position, nor does it lock into the middle position. The handle just moves up and down freely and seems cheap. I had recently had my car totaled in an accident which meant dealing with, insurance company Police department, lawyers, and doctors. Because of all this I was using one of those large cloth bags to carry all the brown envelops for each one. Since I walk with a cane the bag was carried in my left hand, the same side my purse goes on my shoulder. I began having such pain in my back from the neck down to between my shoulder blades! I couldn't even look left while driving without sharp pain. I thought it was an injury from the accident. Then I remembered hearing that if you carry to much weight on one side it can effect your spine. Most of the rolling backpacks were either for children (design) or were very expensive! This is a decent quality backpack. It is very loud however due to the fact that the lowest quality part is the wheels that aren't made to stay together. Don't use the side pockets since, even if you're being careful, will rip on any ledge available. The only thing that comes with time is the handle. It starts to dislike being moved up and down. This is a pretty sturdy thing, at least in my experience. I kinda jump it up the 2 or 3 stairs in my school's hallways and it doesn't take any noticeable damage. I wouldn't recommend banging it against a door and expecting it not to fall apart at school (or whatever) but I really like it. The only worrisome thing you might want to be aware of is that the pencil holders in the front are open-ended so small pencils will end up laying at the bottom.NulaCeara

This backpack is amazing! Very large and perfect for middle school and high school. There are seven pockets in total. Chromebook pocket (all the way in the back) , main pocket (which is HUGE) , second largest pocket (perfect for gym clothes) , a zipper pocket (perfect for your wallet or sunglasses) , a bigger zipper pocket which has the jansport logo on it (has an organizer with 3 pen slots and a pocket for your phone and a key holder more room for any pencils) , a small zip pocket (perfect for your phone, storing pencils and pens, or any hygeine products) , and one water bottle pocket. I have a 32 ounce water bottle and it fits perfect in there.

I owned a non ballistic 1900 backpack for years. Purchased this one and love the ballistic material! Color looks great in person too. Few things I noticed not as good as prior backpack: 1) Zippers don't glide like butter as the older regular version. Material covering the zipper also seems to make them drag and I'm scared it will get caught and snag on the zipper perhaps eventually. 2) The top front pocket is weirdly sized this time. Last pack it was a joy to use and open with the bottom of the zipper ouch large than the top. Now, for some reason, the top part of the pouch is longer than the bottom and creates a hard time to zip open and freely grab and go. Weird, not sure what they did, but needs to be examined and fixed. The top handle of the backpack isn't as tight and well made as my last pack. This one seems to have been put on slightly weird and I can twist it some which shouldn't be the case. Could also use some additional features. I bought this a month ago and this is the first trip I have used it for. The first leg of my airline flight I didn't have any issues. Now, 3 days ago I took the second leg of my trip. While standing (not moving) in line at the airport, the faulty zipper gave way and my work laptop and tablet went flying onto the floor. The tablet wasn't damaged but the computer was! Thank goodness it still could boot up! The back is badly bent…. It was in the computer compartment of the backpack! I put it in a different compartment and realized that zipper has the same issue – it doesn't want to stay shut. Yes the backpack was full. I had to mess with the zipper and put it in different positions to get it to stay shut! It will come undone VERY easily with simple pressure pulling on the seam. DO NOT put the zippers together at the top. It WILL come apart. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS, SAVE YOUR COMPUTER. I AM RETURNING THIS AND FILING A COMPLAINT. Funny thing is, I simply wanted to "upgrade" from my older Swissgear laptop – same model. It had NEVER had any issues for 10 years! NOW I have to get something else to get me through the rest of my trip! If you are traveling light or don't care about contents spilling out, go ahead and chance it. Otherwise, I wanted to warn others to not get this until they resolve this issue. It should be recalled.Tam
I have used many daypacks in my lifetime. I enjoy testing different types of equipment- seeing what feels right and performs adequately. This daypack is the finest daypack I have ever used. This bag is a perfect smaller sized day pack. Great for work or hikes. I like how tough the material is and the added rubberized base which is great for when you set it down outdoors. I think this will last for years. My only criticism- it should have a double zipper for the small pocket. With only one zipper, any loose items can easily fall out from the side corner when you unzip the pocket. You have to really tilt the bag to avoid that from happening when you open it . Overall, it's a very good backpack. Not too large, not too small. The fabric is not only extremely durable but also very lightweight. I love the reinforced bottom, it keeps it from getting dirty. It was very easy to wipe it off. The Rain Defender feature works but it's not meant for a heavy rain shower or even steady raindrops.
