Got it for my husband. He likes anything treasure and mining related.jagermeisterin
Book is very detailed, With pictures and illustrations to figure out what type of minerals or gemstone you might have the book does help you figure that out. Also it does give you a generic price for different quality of mineral or gemstone if you might be working on. This is the third edition I am not sure if number one and number two are better to help you understand number three I will be purchasing both of those to see if it makes it easier for me. Again the book is great. If you want to learn more and if you know a little about lapidary work geology this is a great book for that.phxtattoo

Easy to read, nicely organized, and many detailed pictures for beginners! I never expect anything less from DK Smithsonian Handbooks.emi_kitty
I like this book. It has a lot of good information to help me learn to identify minerals I find in the field. Unlike most books related to rocks and geology, this book does try to explain the information in a way people, like myself , who are training themselves on the world of geology can understand it easier. I would recomend this book to anyone who is thinking about it.21bje6k

Reviews:
This is a very informative, quick and easy to use reference guide that has good color pictures and wonderful references to many North American minerals and rocks. Not every one is listed in here but I found many to most are. It has been my field guide since I was an older child using my mom's. Without it, I would be very lost as to what kinds of precious stones, minerals, and rocks are in my area. I also love it's compact size instead of being a big, bulky, hard to carry around study guide. I haven't found it's equal or better yet. A great family resource tool.thesilvergardens
