A very interesting book for those interested in demonology, esoteric knowledge or christianity, This book covers the history of demons and demonic encounters over the years. I found it fascinating how demons or demonic activity has been reported and recorded by countries and cultures from all over the world and all through history. Although a negative subject this book was very interesting and the research that must have gone into this book is epic. I really enjoyed it, defenetely not for the casual reader for it is very in depth.

I would say it's not prayers but just bible passages that was jotted down in case of demon attacks or stuff. I would recommend it if you're trying to find some passage on the bible regarding demons but protection from demons? I was introduced to this book after a small group church meeting. I was talking to the group leader about my suffering from arthritis from the age of 11. I was 33 years old at the time. The group leader excused herself and asked me to wait a moment, and told me she had something for me. She came back with this book and 2 of Derek Princes tapes. I had no clue why she would hand me a book about expelling demons, but I trusted that she knew what she was doing and I took the material home. I first listened to the tapes and that got me very intrigued. I then read the book and what I discovered was a truth that has been hidden from the church for years. This book explains what demons are, how they show themselves and how we open doors in our lives to allow them to oppress us. Then step by step it takes you through deliverance. I am a retired psychiatrist with some limited experience in Catholic deliverance ministry and exorcism. I had met Dr. Gallagher many years ago and was hoping he would some day publish an account of his experiences. So I was delighted to learn about this book. Dr. Gallagher has impressive academic credentials, along with a writing style which is very accessible to anyone who does not have a mental health background. In the early 1990s I had personally met two of the exorcists he described in the text under the pseudonyms of Father A and Father Jacques, and can affirm the description of both men is accurate. For me, this lent further credibility to the description of other people in the book, which contains interesting accounts of several people Dr. Gallagher had assessed. A few of the chapters may be a bit tedious for some, as Dr. Gallagher does go into detail about diagnostic and related issues. However I wish I would have had access to this book thirty years ago when I first encountered a request to assess an alleged case of demonic possession. In summary, I highly recommend this book as a valuable resource for any mental health professional who is involved in Protestant or Catholic deliverance and exorcism ministry. It would also be of interest to anyone who is curious about the psychiatry-spiritual interface from a Catholic Christian perspective.BRYON
