1. What Is Real?: The Unfinished Quest For The Meaning Of Quantum Physics [Book]

Product Details:
"quantum mechanics is humanity's finest scientific achievement. it explains why the sun shines and how your eyes can see. it's the theory behind the leds in your phone and the nuclear hearts of space probes. every physicist agrees quantum physics is spectacularly successful. but ask them what quantum physics means, and the result will be a brawl. at stake is the nature of the universe itself. what does it mean for something to be real? what is the role of consciousness in the universe? and do quantum rules apply to very small objects like electrons and protons, but not us? in what is real?, adam becker brings to vivid life the brave researchers whose quest for the truth led them to challenge bohr: david bohm, who picked up einstein's mantle and sought to make quantum mechanics deterministic, all while being hounded by the forces of mccarthyism; hugh everett, who argued that everything, big and small, must be governed by the same rules; and john bell, who went to great lengths to eradicate the power of the god-like observer from the core of quantum physics. and they paid dearly, their reputations, careers, and sometimes lives ruined completely. but history has been kinder to them than their contemporaries were. as becker shows, the brave intellectual giants have inspired a growing army of physicists and philosophers intent both on making a philosophically more satisfying theory of the universe and a more useful one as well. a gripping story of some of humanity's greatest ideas and the high cost with which many have pursued them, what is real? is intellectual history at its passionate best"–

Reviews:
This book offers a very good historical review of quantum reality and does so quickly and concisely.eprtheorem
This writer make the complex easy to understand. I never thought I would have any insight to quantum physics. My idea of fun might be different than other people, but this was a fun read.risingmtn
The most insightful work on Quantum Foundations yet. The author has done his research and told the history with brutal honesty and deep insight. Some Physicists feel that our lack of understanding of the phenomena themselves is not a problem. That is a matter of opinion. What is not an opinion is that we have not been able to explain what the subatomic entities are or how they can behave in such strange ways. This book really takes an honest aim at our inadequacies in attempting to explain these foundational questions.paulpinelle
2. The Quantum Universe: (And Why Anything That Can Happen, Does) [Book]
Product Details:
International bestselling authors brian cox and jeff forshaw's fascinating, entertaining, and clear introduction to quantum mechanicsin the quantum universe, brian cox and jeff forshaw approach the world of quantum mechanics in the same way they did in why does e=mc2? and make fundamental scientific principles accessible-and fascinating-to everyone.the subatomic realm has a reputation for weirdness, spawning any number of profound misunderstandings, journeys into eastern mysticism, and woolly pronouncements on the interconnectedness of all things. cox and forshaw's contention? there is no need for quantum mechanics to be viewed this way. there is a lot of mileage in the "weirdness" of the quantum world, and it often leads to confusion and, frankly, bad science.

3. The Amazing Story Of Quantum Mechanics: A Math-Free Exploration Of The Science That Made Our World [Book]
Product Details:
A highly entertaining exploration of the complicated science of quantum mechanics made easy to understand by way of pop culture. as a young science fiction fan, physicist james kakalios marveled at the future predicted in the pulp magazines, comics, and films of the '50s and '60s. in the amazing story of quantum mechanics, he explains why the development of quantum mechanics enabled our amazing present day.in his trademark style, kakalios uses pop culture examples- everything from the graphic novel watchmen to schlock horror movies of the '50s-to elucidate some of the most complex science there is. and he brings to life the groundbreaking scientists whose discoveries made our present life possible. along the way, he dispels the misconception that quantum mechanics is unknowable by mere mortals. it's not magic; it's science!
4. The Age Of Entanglement: When Quantum Physics Was Reborn [Book]
Product Details:
In the age of entanglement, louisa gilder brings to life one of the pivotal debates in twentieth century physics. in 1935, albert einstein famously showed that, according to the quantum theory, separated particles could act as if intimately connected–a phenomenon which he derisively described as “spooky action at a distance.” in that same year, erwin schrödinger christened this correlation “entanglement.” yet its existence was mostly ignored until 1964, when the irish physicist john bell demonstrated just how strange this entanglement really was. drawing on the papers, letters, and memoirs of the twentieth century’s greatest physicists, gilder both humanizes and dramatizes the story by employing the scientists’ own words in imagined face-to-face dialogues. the result is a richly illuminating exploration of one of the most exciting concepts of quantum physics.
Reviews:
Great summary of developments in theory of entanglement.mikequinhalf
Well written book for the layman on the subject. Entanglement is among the most interesting phenomena ever discovered by humans. It is not as informative as a text book but Quantum Mechanics is a serious commitment to understand at a working level. It offers a good blend of science and history and was entertaining.paulpinelle
Bengt M
5. Quantum Theory Cannot Hurt You: Understanding The Mind-Blowing Building Blocks Of The Universe [Book]
Product Details:
The two towering achievements of modern physics are quantum theory and einstein's general theory of relativity. but, almost a century after their advent, most people haven't the slightest clue what either is about. did you know that there's so much empty space inside matter that the entire human race could be squeezed into the volume of a sugar cube? or that you grow old more quickly on the top floor of a building than on the ground floor? marcus chown explains all with characteristic, wit, colour and clarity.

Reviews:
A fine attempt to explain the inexplicable.
Some of the material will remain arcane to readers who are not well-versed in physics and mathematics; and despite Chown's best efforts, this book is much like others I've read on the subject. What is admirable about this volume, though, is the author's generosity in acknowledging those lesser-known scientific pioneers whose achievements in this field are inestimable.
6. Einstein's Unfinished Revolution: The Search For What Lies Beyond The Quantum [Book]

Product Details:
A daring new vision of quantum theory from one of the leading minds of contemporary physics quantum physics is the golden child of modern science. it is the basis of our understanding of atoms, radiation, and so much else, from elementary particles and basic forces to the behavior of materials. but for a century it has also been the problem child of science: it has been plagued by intense disagreements between its inventors, strange paradoxes, and implications that seem like the stuff of fantasy. whether it's schrödinger's cat–a creature that is simultaneously dead and alive–or a belief that the world does not exist independently of our observations of it, quantum theory challenges our fundamental assumptions about reality. in einstein's unfinished revolution, theoretical physicist lee smolin provocatively argues that the problems which have bedeviled quantum physics since its inception are unsolved and unsolvable, for the simple reason that the theory is incomplete. there is more to quantum physics, waiting to be discovered. in this vibrant and accessible book, smolin takes us on a journey through the basics of quantum physics, introducing the stories of the experiments and figures that have transformed our understanding of the universe, before wrestling with the puzzles and conundrums that the quantum world presents. along the way, he illuminates the existing theories that might solve these problems, guiding us towards a vision of the quantum that embraces common sense realism. in einstein's unfinished revolution, lee smolin brings us a step closer to resolving one of the greatest scientific controversies of our age.
Reviews:
The extraordinary power of Mr Smolin’s intellect is well demonstrated here. A lesser mind will struggle with some of his arguments. As a general rule do not read more than two pages at a time, before re-reading them. Make make sure you have fully understood, before venturing further into the strange world that he portrays.

9. Physics Of The Future: How Science Will Shape Human Destiny And Our Daily Lives By The Year 2100 [Book]

Product Details:
Space elevators. internet-enabled contact lenses. cars that fly by floating on magnetic fields. this is the stuff of science fiction—it’s also daily life in the year 2100. renowned theoretical physicist michio kaku details the developments in computer technology, artificial intelligence, medicine, space travel, and more, that are poised to happen over the next hundred years. he also considers how these inventions will affect the world economy, addressing the key questions: who will have jobs? which nations will prosper? kaku interviews three hundred of the world’s top scientists—working in their labs on astonishing prototypes. he also takes into account the rigorous scientific principles that regulate how quickly, how safely, and how far technologies can advance. in physics of the future, kaku forecasts a century of earthshaking advances in technology that could make even the last centuries’ leaps and bounds seem insignificant.
Reviews:
Among my favorite authors, he uses plain English and doesn't just give us the science, he gives us the history of how and why the science evolved the way it did and does. <3lookp-81
I bought this book for a good friend of mine. It came in perfect condition and on time. He's been reading it since he got it and is enjoying every minute of it. Michio's thoughts on how technology will influence our lives in the future intrigues him and raises arguments amongst him and Kaku's ideas. It's a great read for any one interested in futuristic books or life-changing/world-altering technlogy.yuri_tifa_blondie
I loved this book! the predecessor to Physics of the Impossible, which also was an amazing book. Physics of the Future is a must read for star gazers and quantum physics believers. Kaku, along with many great minds collaborate to give predictions to come of our future.djsuisav1
10. Mathematical Foundations Of Quantum Mechanics [Book]
Product Details:
Mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics was a revolutionary book that caused a sea change in theoretical physics. here, john von neumann, one of the leading mathematicians of the twentieth century, shows that great insights in quantum physics can be obtained by exploring the mathematical structure of quantum mechanics. he begins by presenting the theory of hermitean operators and hilbert spaces. these provide the framework for transformation theory, which von neumann regards as the definitive form of quantum mechanics. using this theory, he attacks with mathematical rigor some of the general problems of quantum theory, such as quantum statistical mechanics as well as measurement processes. regarded as a tour de force at the time of publication, this book is still indispensable for those interested in the fundamental issues of quantum mechanics.

Bengt M

11. The Physics Of Consciousness: The Quantum Mind And The Meaning Of Life [Book]

Product Details:
For decades, neuroscientists, psychologists, and an army of brain researchers have been struggling, in vain, to explain the phenomenon of consciousness. now there is a clear trail to the answer, and it leads through the dense jungle of quantum physics, zen, and subjective experience and arrives at an unexpected destination. in this tour-de-force of scientific investigation, evan harris walker, a pioneer in the science of consciousness, describes the outcome of his fifty-year search for the true nature of reality. drawing on a deep knowledge of quantum physics and zen philosophy, walker shows how the operation of bizarre yet actual properties of elementary particles support a new and exciting theory of reality, based on the principles of quantum physics; a theory that answers questions such as "what is the nature of consciousness, of will?" "what is the source of material reality?" and "what is god?" clearly written in non-technical, lyrical prose, the physics of consciousness is more than just the explanation of a science – it is a new vision of life.

12. The Quantum And The Lotus: A Journey To The Frontiers Where Science And Buddhism Meet [Book]

Product Details:
Matthieu ricard trained as a molecular biologist, working in the lab of a nobel prize—winning scientist, but when he read some buddhist philosophy, he became drawn to buddhism. eventually he left his life in science to study with tibetan teachers, and he is now a buddhist monk and translator for the dalai lama, living in the shechen monastery near kathmandu in nepal. trinh thuan was born into a buddhist family in vietnam but became intrigued by the explosion of discoveries in astronomy during the 1960s. he made his way to the prestigious california institute of technology to study with some of the biggest names in the field and is now an acclaimed astrophysicist and specialist on how the galaxies formed. when matthieu ricard and trinh thuan met at an academic conference in the summer of 1997, they began discussing the many remarkable connections between the teachings of buddhism and the findings of recent science. that conversation grew into an astonishing correspondence exploring a series of fascinating questions. did the universe have a beginning? or is our universe one in a series of infinite universes with no end and no beginning? is the concept of a beginning of time fundamentally flawed? might our perception of time in fact be an illusion, a phenomenon created in our brains that has no ultimate reality? is the stunning fine-tuning of the universe, which has produced just the right conditions for life to evolve, a sign that a “principle of creation” is at work in our world? if such a principle of creation undergirds the workings of the universe, what does that tell us about whether or not there is a divine creator? how does the radical interpretation of reality offered by quantum physics conform to and yet differ from the buddhist conception of reality? what is consciousness and how did it evolve? can consciousness exist apart from a brain generating it? the stimulating journey of discovery the authors traveled in their discussions is re-created beautifully in the quantum and the lotus, written in the style of a lively dialogue between friends. both the fundamental teachings of buddhism and the discoveries of contemporary science are introduced with great clarity, and the reader will be profoundly impressed by the many correspondences between the two streams of thought and revelation. through the course of their dialogue, the authors reach a remarkable meeting of minds, ultimately offering a vital new understanding of the many ways in which science and buddhism confirm and complement each other and of the ways in which, as matthieu ricard writes, “knowledge of our spirits and knowledge of the world are mutually enlightening and empowering.”

18. The Physics Of God: Unifying Quantum Physics, Consciousness, M-Theory, Heaven, Neuroscience And Transcendence [Book]

Product Details:
Setting aside the pervasive material bias of science and lifting the obscuring fog of religious sectarianism reveals a surprisingly clear unity of science and religion. the explanations of transcendent phenomena given by saints, sages, and near-death experiencers–miracles, immortality, heaven, god, and transcendent awareness–are fully congruent with scientific discoveries in the fields of relativity, quantum physics, medicine, m-theory, neuroscience, and quantum biology. the physics of god describes the intersections of science and religion with colorful, easy-to-understand metaphors, making abstruse subjects within both science and religion easily accessible to the layman–no math, no dogma. – connects string theory's hidden brane worlds to religion's transcendent heavens. – reveals the scientific secret of life and immortality: quantum biology's startling discovery that the human body is continuously entangled. – demonstrates the miracle-making power of our minds to effect instantaneous physiological changes. – explains how the intelligent observer effect confirms our high spiritual potential. compelling and concise, the physics of god will make you believe in the unity of science and religion and eager to experience the personal transcendence that is the promise of both.
Reviews:
An absolute MUST BUY! Woah, I've never read any of Selbie's books before but i will definitely be keeping an eye out on anything he publishes. I absolutely love this book as it mixes science and spirituality BEAUTIFULLY. I was looking for a deeper insight into how we are legit made from energy, and Selbie connects those dots in a way that helps even dummies (like me) understand. Selbie demonstrates that we are essentially beings of abundant energy, connected to everyone and everything. Selbie, you've reminded me that life is divine and ever-abundant. Buy for you and for all your friends, this book will change the world. Cheers.YASS QUEEN
