Reviews:
Is your teen feeling anxious? Overwhelmed? Lonely? Do you see their confidence sliding and don't know how to help? Richard Meadows speaks to teens about these issues and more in his Essential Social Skills Handbook for Teens. Written to teens, this book covers topics such as self-esteem and confidence, communication, social media, managing stress and more! Meadows shares from personal experience, opening up about his own struggles and the principles that he learned along the way. He uses simple applications to boost teenage confidence and management skills to be successful in later life. I found the author's writing style to be simple, but effective. Meadows writes as if he's speaking directly to teens. This makes his writing personal, although at times it did feel a little incomplete. On of my favorite parts is when he addresses personality types and how they aren't meant to be a handicap. Rather how important it is to know your personality's strengths and weaknesses, and how to work with them. It's a short and quick read, most applicable for younger teens ages 12-14 years. I do think that older teens would find the tone condescending; however, the concepts are important and I'd rather address these issues with my teens in the younger years. This would be a good books for a teen strugging with confidence and social anxieties as these are the major issues addressed. If your teenager doesn't struggle with self-esteem, this may be a title to skip. *Disclaimer: I recieved a free copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.Robin

14. Social Anxiety: Clinical, Developmental, And Social Perspectives [Ebook]

Product Details:
The third edition of social anxiety: clinical, developmental, and social perspectives integrates examinations of social anxiety, shyness, and embarrassment with the research on social anxiety disorder subtypes, biological theories and cognitive-behavioral or pharmacological treatment outcome studies. clinicians, social and developmental psychologists and behavioral geneticists have all conducted research over the past ten years which is essential to furthering our understanding and treatment of social anxiety disorders. this book weaves together research findings gathered by renowned minds across these various disciplines, and deals with both theory and research. it explores what constitutes social anxiety, assesses the condition and its relationship to other psychological disorders, exploring the biological basis and treatment approaches as well. coverage includes key issues not discussed fully by other books, including related disorders in adults and children, relationship to social competence and assertiveness, perfectionism, social skills deficit hypothesis, comparison between pharmacological and psychosocial treatments, and potential mediators of change in the treatment of social anxiety disorder. from the author: although social anxiety disorder (social phobia) is widely researched topic in psychiatry, other disciplines, such as social and developmental psychology, have independently been studying the same phenomena for many years. yet, there has been very little cross-discipline communication and integration. the main objective of the book is to integrate the findings on social anxiety from various disciplines, including clinical psychology, psychiatry, social psychology, neuroscience, and developmental psychology.

Reviews:
Daniel Smith captures your attention in every page, each topic is compelling but informative- mental illness is a real issue that I feel many people can relate to. This book can help others not feel so alone, 'Monkey Mind' focuses on an epidemic across the world but is light hearted and definitely a page turner. This will surely be my new fall back when I run out of new things to read!ayrella #d4magicreader
CLEAN PACKED VERY VERY WELL THANK YOU RENEEsecrets15
This is a pretty good book. It wasn't a page-turner that kept me up all night but it is decent. The author did explain how and when his OCD began in a way only a person with OCD could understand. I thought that part was great.315corinne
