Reviews:
I have read this book multiple times, it is life changing when it comes to how to communicate effectively with others, you can apply it to all walks of life not just business. I always recommend this book to others and I just bought it again as a gift to someone. Highly recommend.Natalie
Since reading this book, I feel like for the first time I have been given the basic instructions to approach obstacles in a positive way with a degree of confidence in a positive outcome. We have a child with Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and we have been in therapy for 8 years with multiple counselors and psychologists with little to no improvement. She is frequently against anything and everything that we try to teach her or help her with and has no reaction to any type of discipline. In her mind she is always right, always has all the answers and when something goes wrong she is always the faultless victim. I have frequently felt completely hopeless and overwhelmed, and I have thrown up my hands and said that I have run out of ideas and answers about what we could do to help her. Now that I have read this book I have had floods of ideas in how I could approach day-to-day issues without getting as upset or trying to correct her behavior, and I have found many faults in my previous methods which obviously were not working. I have just finished this book so I can't say that we have worked any miracles but I began applying these simple principles while still reading the book and we are already experiencing more pleasant behaviors and finding more enjoyment in our time together. I have already recommended this book to several friends and family members and I'm hoping that they read it and can benefit from it as I feel I have!torridtemptations
This book teaches people to be considerate of other peoples feelings. It teaches many other valuable things too though, such as how to interview well, things to say that make you more pleasant to be around, etc. It definitely gets you to think about how you could and should "do better". It has helped many people to transform from being socially awkward and defensive to someone that seems collected and confident.Honest Mom

Reviews:
I love this book! I’m usually not a big fan of memoirs or non-fiction in general but her story was so engaging. You can tell right off the bat how intelligent and aware she is and she further proves this by her successes throughout her life. I’m so glad she wrote this book. It’s not boring at all and the writing is absolutely beautiful. I feel lucky to have read this book and it’s definitely going to be one of my top reads this year.Keke
I chose to listen to the book instead of reading it. I believe I got so much more out of it when listening to the author's voice. With her reading it, it gave me the tone that I would have thought she would wanted the readers to hear. It brought the book so much more alive to me. I have raved about this book to so many, some excited about the book and some not but willing to read it. Michelle made her life especially as the former First Lady raw and real. Doesn't matter what political side your on I highly recommend reading or listening ( very highly recommend) this book to get an insiders view on what it's like to be a strong woman who supports her husband in a ( I would say ) very stressful position. Striving to stay a wife, mother, and individual Michelle brings to the reader an amazing story of her journey thus far.Kacey
“For me, becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuously toward a better self. The journey doesn’t end.” 4.5 stars. Sometimes I'll do this thing where I don't read/watch something because it's overhyped. I'm not sure what it is. I think it may be that I see it so much on my feed/dash/everywhere that I just … can't bring myself to approach it because I feel like it's in my face too much as it is. I wait for the hype to die down so I can make my own judgement or just … quietly approach it. That's what this book did. It quietly approached me and just … wow. I'll admit, I had no plans of picking this book up, seeing wildly mixed reviews and also just being overly-memoired at the moment. However, Ipicked up Obama's book and the best thing to come out of it is me wanting to read this book. Even in a memoir primarily focused on his presidency and decisions, Michelle Obama shines in that book. So I was curious. And I wasn't disappointed. Michelle Obama is an incredible woman. From the very start. Not when she became First Lady, not because she became First Lady, but just because of who she is. Reading about her life was absolutely fascinating. To learn about her life, starting from her early childhood in the South Side of Chicago all the way to where she is now is quite the journey and she masterfully tells the story where it all just flows so naturally (even if it didn't feel like it to her at the time). It's inspiring to see all the different routes, the what ifs, the doubts, the fear, the courage, all of it laid out for us. One thing's for certain, she's always been a badass, whether she's a hotshot lawyer Harvard Law graduate or First Lady. More than that, what was truly beautiful to read was her empathy, her strength of character, her constant love and wanting to do more for others and push people towards the opportunities she worked so hard for. There were quite a few moments that really got to me, because even on her constant journey to become, her kindness and care for others, whether it be family, women, the underprivileged is just … something else. And it's not all sunshine and success either. There's grief, there's sadness, there are difficulties and doubts, and there's life. I loved seeing (see: reading) all of it. I think, for me, the least interesting parts were the ones about her in the White House and that truly says something because part of me had thought it would have been the opposite. To see Michelle Obama truly becoming Michelle Obama is an experience. Her writing is beautiful yes but it's truly the story that kept me so entirely engaged. The words themselves are simple, straightforward. There's no prose, no fancying of words, and I appreciated it. It's accessible in a way one wouldn't necessarily expect and it speaks to you rather than reads to you, if that makes any sense. I listened to this as an audiobook and at no point did I feel as if I was. It kind of felt like one big speech, but better because there wasn't a moment I wanted to fast forward or skip through. I think I'd like to reread this at some point in its book form, just to really appreciate the words and her story that much more.sara.m

Bought this because it was prequel to his 2019 novel. But I actually liked this one better tho I liked that one too. Its great to read new material from a classic author who can keep up with the younger ones.bcleonmorris
William Gibson tillbaka i god stil. Tove S
THE PERIPHERAL by William Gibson is one of the most prescient Science Fiction novels of the twenty-first century. Gibson, best known for his cyberpunk novels NEUROMANCER and MONA LISA OVERDRIVE, creates a future North America where governments are micromanaged not only by big businesses, but from multi-national conglomerates from other dimensions – corporate entities with the means to contact one reality from another. The most telling feature of THE PERIPHERAL is how the author includes the use of drones – those that fly, and others that walk and talk and look very much like "us." Having met and listened to the author speak on various subjects, I am in awe of his writing style, but even more his uncanny knack for maintaining steady pressure on the very pulse of all that is current, hep, and NOW. Readers will find his latest novel a compelling journey, with memorable characters – one of those books that, once one is finished reading it, the reader is sad to have left the world and its people.vonblut

Reviews:
I have just ordered two more copies, after only reading the intro.—and Prof. Peterson's numerous interviews simply expand my own heart. In this climate of high anxiety and appalling lack of compassion, echoed by Hugh MacKay in AUSTRALIA REIMAGINED. It is no wonder that he has an enthralled audience of millions, world- wide. My wish is that Prof. Peterson will produce a primer affirming our children and youth, to give them hope— for our learning young to master before they get to our Uni's. that have to do their own serious reflecting. In my opinion. AND to give our valiant teachers stronger morale and endurance—as so vividly depicted in Gabbie Stroud's TEACHER, also published last year. Finally, the more I devour of the Prof.'s 'Rules' the more I want to yell my rental's roof off , in agreement—our kids CAN be brought up in a far better world, if we follow Jordan's example of such raw courage and exemplary scholarship and teaching. I only wish that I could buy another 12 copies to share around !KCKLL
This is the third book I purchase as a gift. Jordan Peterson tells it as it is in how one should behave to be a functional human being in society. This is sadly supposed to be the role of parents but not many parents nurture their kids anymore by teaching them the basic life skills. I've seen so many young people can't keep their own room organised yet trying to solve the world's most complex problem. Let's keep it to basic – stand up straight, make yourself better than who you are yesterday and clean up your room before you try to solve any life's complex problem. You will be more content and happier in life and no longer feeling depressed all the time. Great for both men, women and anyone. I'm a woman who loves this book. This book has changed my life!!This book changes my life
An excellent book written with great depth and understanding about living a life. It is necessary to read at least twice to get a more complete picture of what Peterson is on about. Best of all this book made me think deeply about living a life and the ultimate ending of that life. Highly recommended but only to serious readers and certainly not for shallow thinking people.Bob

13. Lois Lowry: The Giver [Paperback]
Product Details:
Soon to be a major motion picture, the giver, the 1994 newbery medal winner, has become one of the most influential novels of our time. the haunting story centers on twelve-year-old jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. not until he is given his life assignment as the receiver of memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. lois lowry has written three companion novels to the giver, including gathering blue, messenger, and son.
Reviews:
I bought this book for my 11yo son during the iso period to keep him busy and apparently, he has read this as part of reading prog in year 4! So he recommended that I've read it and I'm on the last chapter now. It's been decades since I burnt the midnight oil so I'm on the last chapter now before I can watch the giver movie by Meryl Streep! The book talks a community living in a "dome" where it's climate control, memories with held and lives a very structure livelihood akin to communism somehow but with supernatural powers. Reminds me bit of the Truman show by Jim Carey where it's all not true but a virtual world!JT
Jonas lives in a community that appears, on first acquaintance, to be perfect. It's a world without crime, and with no unemployment—and therefore no poverty—nobody has to suffer hunger pangs, never mind the torment of starvation and homelessness. All members of a family unit share the experiences and “feelings” of their day each evening and nobody lies. Or so Jonas believes. Only when he learns that his lifetime job is to be the Receiver (taking on all the memories of both pain and joy that have been banished from his society, and being given permission to lie) does he realise the community's creators have banished even more good than evil from his society. Jonas and his tutor, the previous Receiver, to whom he gives the title the Giver, decide that the cost of their stable society is too high … Jonas's community clearly doesn't cover the whole world in which it is set, and one doesn't even have to travel over water to reach “Elsewhere”, of which there are hints relatively early in the book. Most members of the community clearly believe that this is where people who are “released” go. Young readers possibly might not guess the truth here but I'm sure adult readers will. For a book with such a complex set-up The Giver is amazingly short at fewer than 200 pages. If it had been a novel for adults I think it would have contained a lot more detail on how this utopian society was set up, because it does leave you asking questions about it. Lowry does, however, give enough detail for the purpose of her story and she handles it deftly, never getting in the way of the forward motion of the plot and therefore taking the risk of boring young readers. I was amazed to hear that The Giver was on the list of "most challenged" books for 2000, on the grounds of "being sexually explicit, having occult themes, violence". I didn't see anything in it that was inappropriate for its audience of young adults and anything of a sexual nature was hinted at rather than "explicit". The Giver is a thoroughly gripping read and beautifully written.
This is an incredible book and I loved every minute of it. The story line is intriguing from the beginning – set in the future it tells the story of a 'perfect' society that exists where everyone home is uniform. Pain and sadness are unknown in this seemingly perfect world. In the community exists a 'giver' who has been given memories from the past. The book tells the story of Jonas, a 12 year old boy, who has been chosen to receive memories of pain and sadness. He goes on a journey of discovery to see the real meaning behind what is happening in his community. Lois Lowry has done an amazing job writing this book. It toys with the idea of taking away choice from people's lives and creating a world where everyone and everything are very uniform. Her interpretation of that kind of world is simply intriguing. A great read and I would recommend it to anyone.
14. Just Mercy: A Story Of Justice And Redemption [Book]
Product Details:
Publishing date: august 18, 2015.
Reviews:
This book, Just Mercy, was purchased so I'd gave it read for our April book club review. I couldn't put it down. I have heard it's a great and powerful movie, but I never watch a movie without reading the book first. This came at the perfect time because my North Carolina town is also having a 'town hall' meeting for the community to discuss this great book.PATRICIA
The best book I have ever read about the injustice of our judicial system. This book is even more relevant in today's politicaly charged climate and racism in the Trump era. Bryan pulls no puches in his descrition of incarceration of black Americans and their treatment in our prison system. I highly recomend this book to anyone who wants to get to the critical issues facing African American men in today's resurgence of racism in America.redlodgeplatz
An eyeopening, hard-hitting, heart breaking account of not only Bryan Stevenson working on Walter McMillian's case, but also the injustices of the past and present prison system. Stevenson formed the Equal Justice Institute not long after graduating from Harvard Law School and was doing all he could to fight for those on death row. The key case highlighted in this book was Walter McMillian's – I won't go into too much detail but the lack of ANY evidence tying McMillian to the murder he was accused of and the absolute corruption that put him in jail is horrifying. I learned so much from this book and at times I wanted to throw the book across the room and cry because of the sheer injustice there is in the world. I want to give a huge thank you to Stevenson and all those who work at EJI and places like it that help those who cannot help themselves.ERICA

Reviews:
A incredibly powerful memoir about how a young daughter of a large isolationist, religious family that views government hospitals and schools with great suspicion grows up and through a series of decisions becomes a Harvard and Cambridge educated scholar. This story provides the space to contemplate some difficult but highly relevant topics such as self identity vs family ties, ones childhood memories vs memories of others you grew up with, loving ones family even when one's been ostracized. While some of the childhood stories are dark in nature and even frightening at times, it's also really funny at many points. Overall, just an incredibly powerful story that touches on self identity, self preservation, growing past very difficult childhood challenges, learning to deal with dysfunctional families, and ultimately about being true to ones self.jbtwarehouse
Difficult to read. Impossible to put down. A powerful, powerful book that you shouldn’t miss. I can’t just leave it at that because Tara Westover’s story deserves more than those few words. I don’t often read memoirs, but when I do I want them to be told by extraordinary people who have a meaningful story to tell and that would be faint praise for this book. It sounds odd to say how beautifully written this is because we are not spared of the ugly details of what this family was about, but yet it is beautifully written. I had to remind myself at times that I wasn’t reading a gritty novel, that Tara and her family were real as I got more than just a glimpse of a life that was hard for me to even imagine.prem.p
I have mixed feelings about this book. It was a difficult read, and for numerous reasons, the first being Tara's childhood. It's very difficult to imagine her life when I have no reference point, having had a "normal" childhood. She has no reference point to compare to her traumatic childhood, thus bringing her to spontaneously go back to her childhood home periodically, with the hope that things would change for the better. Her quest for knowledge outweighed her fears of failure, although failure was always a component in her mind. Her strength overcame her weaknesses, which is an amazing attainment! I must commend her for her continued drive to survive her past, and become a hero for others to admire and respect. Take the time to read this eye-opening memoir!Nancee

We are a family of readers who has stong opinions about what we like, so any book that tells us that its going to give us suggestions on what to read is highly suspect from the start. This book however passed the test and has become a favorite with us! It is dog eared and marked in, but we have found some priceless gems through its recommendations. I like the idea of a short book every now and then, just something quick and to the point and this book if full of those.
