Reviews:
These books are way too simplistic. They aren't reading adventures at all, just two sentences per page. I am going to return them.Janice
I agree with another reviewer; books are way too simplistic. The age range needs to be lowered to more like 3-4. I will be returning these or giving them as a gift to a 3 year old.Linda
I purchased this as a gift for my niece to help her with her reading skills, so she would do better in school. These are more frustrating than helpful because they contain numerous words that are difficult to pronounce for an early reader, such as "chef", "feast", and "Jacques". The good thing is short stories with cute pictures. If you as a parent reads the story at bedtime than it's worth the purchase.lbpofwilliamstown

Reviews:
We found these books very disappointing. The illustrations are of poor quality and the plot lines make no sense at all. The books are phonetically sound but their only value is strict phonetic instruction. The stories and illustrations are not engaging and this does not foster the love of reading that I want to instil in my child. Very disappointed after reading so many positive reviews and recommendations on the series.
This set is the natural progression from the Bob Books Set 1, and a great one at that. My son loves that he can read a "whole book" (each set comes with 12 small books inside). And we both enjoy discussing the questions/topics from the back cover of each book – his answers let me know that he was not only reading the words on the page but comprehending what the characters have accomplished within the realm of each book. I have never seen my son beam with such pride over an accomplishment before – saying "The End" at the end of each book elicits a broad smile and an assured look. Mostly, I love that each book builds from the last with similar, but different, sounds and a few new "site" words that must be memorized for each – so he uses a combination of phonics (sounding the words out) and just plain word memory (for words like "the" and "was" that don't sound like they are spelled). These books have been the best investment yet. Great value for all that you get.TwiBecca
You don't buy these for the stories. They are deliberately limited,, the reason being that the purpose is to introduce the letters and sounds slowly a few at a time. These are books for people who want to teach reading in a developmental way. So they were perfect for us.Ken
10. Bob Books Set 4: Complex Words

Reviews:

Reviews:
Really happy I have found these books, from doing lots of searching online for some different first readers for my son. They are perfect for the level he is at in prep at the moment, we can sound out the words together. He really likes the different little stories in the book & the line drawings. Very happy to have found these series of books.Sarah
I've purchased many sets of early readers but most have been predictable text which means the little ones can guess or memorise the word. This set is truly decodable and starts very very easy! Meaning they have to sound out the letters for the words. I'm going on to purchase the whole set! If your little one knows the alphabet and is working on letter sounds they will be able to read these books!Tash
My youngest child enjoys these short, little books. These help build his confidence with small sentences. His attention span is short. He tends to opt for these books, so he can read all by himself. It warms this motherās heart.candy.s

14. Ivy & Bean Boxed Set: Books 7-9 (Books About Friendship, Gifts For Young Girls) [Book]

Product Details:
New york times best-selling series of books for children – ivy + bean – ivy and bean, two friends who never meant to like each other: this boxed set, ivy and bean boxed set: books 7-9 continues the story of these two spunky characters. it includes the third of three books in the ivy and bean series. – author annie barrows talks about her award-winning ivy + bean series: one of the big problems of being a kid is that your parents often try to make you play with people you don't really like. my parents were forever trying to get me to like the kids of their friends. these kids were often weird. i didn't want to play with them. it was a problem. – ivy and bean are very different: bean is loud and wild and goofy. she loves to be involved in games and poke her nose in other people's business. ivy is quiet and full of ideas. she spends most of her time learning how to be a witch. each girl thinks the other one is weird. each girl thinks she could never be friends with the other. especially because their parents keep nagging them about it. but sometimes opposites can become the best of friends because they're opposites. wouldn't it be cool if ivy and bean found the solution to global warming? wouldn't it be especially cool if the solution was shimmering pink goo in a test-tube and all the famous scientists in the world wished they had thought of it first? it's science fair time at emerson school, and all the kids are supposed to find a way to cool down the earth. some kids are planting trees. some kids are holding their breath for a very, very long time. some kids are doing interesting things with vacuum cleaners. but what should ivy and bean do? something with explosions? something with ropes? something with ice cubes? or maybe something very, very quiet . . . book 8: ivy + bean: no news is good news: ivy and bean need some money. ten dollars, to be exact. never mind what for. don't even ask. okay, it's for cheese. two bags of lowfat belldeloon cheese in a special just-for-you serving size. don't ask why. but ten dollars is a lot of money. how are bean and ivy going to make ten dollars? should they babysit? eww, diapers. no. should they wash the car? they're not allowed to touch the car. no. should they write a newspaper about their neighbors and sell it? yes. great idea-and easy too! all ivy and bean have to do is snoop around pancake court and gets some news. it's very interesting what you can find out if you look in your neighbors' windows. it's even more interesting when the neighbors read about it in the newspaper. – book 9: ivy + bean make the rules: it's spring break, and bean's older sister, nancy, is going to girl power 4-ever camp, where she will do crafts and dance and first aid and other secret things that bean will never know about because you have to be eleven to go to girl power 4-ever camp. bean doesn't care. she doesn't want to go to camp. she wouldn't go even if they begged her. so ha. so ha ha. so-wait a second! bean and ivy can make their own camp, their own better camp. it's camp flaming arrow, where crafts include escaping, dance includes thumbtacks, first aid includes zombies, and counselors ivy and bean make the rules. – if you and your child liked junie b. jones, magic tree house books, and princess in black; you'll love ivy & bean.

Our little man loves his Very Hungry Caterpillar. Every night we adventure out on a feedimg frenzy ^_^ Beautiful colours and so much fun to play "guess what I am going to eat now" hiding Caterpillar behind the nom holes. Lovely ^_^clairclayto0
I was aware it wouldn't be a new book, however the first 2 pages are stuck together. If I pull too hard, it will leave glue residue behind both pages. On the other hand, it wasn't stuck on the pages with the story, so I guess it's okay. I would recommend if that doesn't bother you, but if you want a clean, new product, probably look elsewhere (but they can get expensive 8/).walruschubb

Iām very happy with the reading collections I purchased for my 7 year old son who likes a good story but needs simple sentences to read himself. I ordered the collections which arrived in Germany quickly and without issue. Very, very pleased!Reviewed by Usborne customer
