Product Details:
Actress, director, and new york times bestselling author laura prepon's raw and honest guide to navigating motherhood. when laura prepon first became a mother, she barely recognized herself. as someone who always loved being prepared, prepon felt raw, full of stress, and blindsided. she sought out resources to help navigate this huge life transition, but only found books about childcare with almost nothing on the shelves about momcare. so, laura decided to write the book she was looking for. you and i, as mothers: a raw and honest guide to motherhood is part memoir, part handbook, as laura digs into her own unconventional upbringing and investigates how it shaped her as a person and as a mother, with intimate stories and never-before-shared anecdotes brought forth in an effort to understand our collective experience as mothers. the book is packed with practical tips for moms of any age, at any stage of motherhood, such as stress reduction techniques, self-care, protecting one's partnership, asking for help, and getting a global perspective on maternity, and includes a selection of easy and delicious recipes, from ideas for kids-friendly food, to romantic dinner dates, and batch-cooking favorites that will help any parent feed their family. laura also interweaves insights and interviews from her "mom squad" an eclectic group of mothers of all ages and professional backgrounds, including a world-renowned survival expert, a top neuroscientist, creator of orange is the new black jenji kohan, actress mila kunis, author and activist amber tamblyn, and chef daphne oz–among other inspiring moms, who lend their voices to the much needed conversation of what it means to be a mother.
Reviews:
The book is exactly how I was hoping for, not just talking about the persons own experience but there's kid friendly health recipe's in it and tips on how to deal with certain things etcKate
I loved this book because it covers all different areas of self-care and relationship building. Laura Prepon is so right when she says that there are so many books to read about pregnancy, but not a lot about how life changes after your baby is born. I highly recommend this book to all mothers, no matter what age your child is. We all could use these reminders.Denise

Product Details:
The first 40 days after the birth of a child offer an essential and fleeting period of rest and recovery for the new mother. based on author heng ou's own postpartum experience with zuo yuezi, a set period of "confinement," in which a woman remains at home focusing on healing and bonding with her baby, the first forty days revives the lost art of caring for the mother after birth. as modern mothers are pushed to prematurely "bounce back" after deliver-ing their babies, and are often left alone to face the physical and emotional challenges of this new stage of their lives, the first forty days provide a lifeline–a source of connection, nourishment, and guidance. the book includes 60 simple recipes for healing soups; replenishing meals and snacks; and calming and lactation-boosting teas, all formulated to support the unique needs of the new mother. in addition to the recipes, this warm and encouraging guide offers advice on arranging a system of help during the post-partum period, navigating relationship challenges, and honoring the significance of pregnancy and birth. the first forty days, fully illustrated to feel both inspiring and soothing, is a practical guide and inspirational read for all new mothers and mothers-to-be–the perfect ally during the first weeks with a new baby.

Reviews:
This was a beautifully written, science based book that felt real to me as a soon to be mother. It struck a balance between the things you need to know about the physical process and the often forgotten about mental journey of conception, pregnancy and loss. It's a hefty book with info for each week that includes prompts for writing, a symptom index, labor and delivery from beginning to end and the often forgotten about fourth trimester – including breast feeding information. To top it off, the images in this book are beautiful. Definitely recommend for a first time parent and their partner.MrsSarahElyse
This seems like a great holistic style pregnancy and birth book. And like it would be a treat to read. My sister was pleased to find helpful tips on what to eat during her current stage of pregnancy. Healthcare references are American, so not all relevant to us in UK.b*anna
A beautifully curated book addressing the million questions, thoughts, concerns from pre-pregnancy to the 4th trimester. Some amazing calming notes and tools to use throughout your journey. I wish I had known about this book sooner. A beautiful book for a mumma in the early days of the journey as a reference tool for reassurance. Highly recommend!Tammie
8. Risen Motherhood: Gospel Hope For Everyday Moments [Book]

Product Details:
A publishers weekly bestseller motherhood is hard. in a world of five-step lists and silver-bullet solutions to become perfect parents, mothers are burdened with mixed messages about who they are and what choices they should make. if you feel pulled between high-fives and hard words, with culture’s solutions only raising more questions, you’re not alone. but there is hope. you might think that scripture doesn’t have much to say about the food you make for breakfast, how you view your postpartum body, or what school choice you make for your children, but a deeper look reveals that the bible provides the framework for finding answers to your specific questions about modern motherhood. emily jensen and laura wifler help you understand and apply the gospel to common issues moms face so you can connect your sunday morning faith to the monday morning tantrum. discover how closely the gospel connects with today’s motherhood. join emily and laura as they walk through the redemptive story and reveal how the gospel applies to your everyday life, bringing hope, freedom, and joy in every area of motherhood.
Reviews:
The gospel changes everything. Looking to deepen my understanding of this truth and to understand how this practically applies to different aspects of motherhood, I couldn’t wait to read this book. A loyal fan of Emily and Laura’s podcast Risen Motherhood, they have helped to reshape my view of motherhood and understand how to apply to gospel – creation, fall, redemption and consummation – to the daunting task of being a mom. From heart attitudes and transitions to food choices and self-care, they do a great job of applying the framework of the gospel to practical areas of life. This book is gold. It will help to reshape your motherhood journey as it encourages you to rest in the promises of Christ rather than telling you to just try harder, lower your expectations or change your circumstances. I am thankful to God for the work of Risen Motherhood and how they are bringing glory to God by pointing mothers back to the basic gospel framework of Christianity.Hannah
This book is so so so good! It is a fantastic read for any mother and cuts deeply (and quickly) into the heart of the struggles moms face. With every chapter, a struggle is discussed and moms are pointed to Christ and how a relationship with him changes everything. It takes baby steps to grow, to change, but there is so much beauty in walking through this life with Christ at the center. It's convicting, encouraging, inspiring, and easy to read. This is a great book for a mom to read alone in the midst of her busy day and also for group discussions among friends. I felt especially encouraged and empowered after reading the chapters on Marriage and on Mundane Moments. Emily & Laura do a really great job of communicating relationally and concisely making this an easy read any mom can pick up and dive in whenever she has a moment. I hope this book becomes a new staple for moms everywhere.
"He allows you to see that motherhood isn't just made up of long days and tedious work–motherhood is made up of a million tiny moments for worship…It's a slow, humble, and difficult process, but we're meant to live out this purpose in the everyday moments. Even when motherhood feels empty and void, when the work feels trite and blasé, we remember that we're part of a greater story. We just have to filter our world through the proper lens." That lens is the Gospel, and this book is filled with hope for those everyday moments of motherhood. I read this book and was challenged in the areas I need to check my heart and encouraged in the truth that these everyday moments of motherhood are actually moments for worship. Emily and Laura explore many different areas of motherhood, examining each one through the lens of the Gospel and how that changes how we look at motherhood, our children, our identity, and our relationships. This is a must-read for any mother out there who is desiring to see greater, eternal purpose in her role as a mother. A gorgeous book filled with truth and hope.sherri

As you open the pages of Mothering by the Book it is as if you are sitting down with a cup of coffee with Jennifer. Reviews:
I did like this book. Some of the things that the author suggests are just easier said than done. What I enjoyed the most about it were the "Dirty Little Secrets" that were shared every few pages, because I have a list of my own that would be liberating to share as well. I believe all mother do. I originally sought out this book because I felt trapped by motherhood, and I just wanted reassurance that I wasn't the only mom out there who was not in love with being a parent. Still searching for that book that clicks.mainomccraney
I am a new mom as of August 07. This book was an easy read, funny, to the point and helped me relate and relax at times when I thought for sure I was going to lose it!girl1123
This book was much better than her follow up book. I loved reading other moms honesty about their struggles to be a good mom. This book was humorous and was well written and did not make motherhood sound like it was all sugar, spice and everything nice 24/7. I would recommend it.collectingharmony

When I first had kids, I felt so clueless and I tried to read everything I could get my hands on, plus ask other parents people lots of questions. It’s kind of a cliche that in our culture to say that kids don’t come with a manual, so I sure appreciate that the folks at Quirk took that thought seriously and published Stuff Every Mom Should Know. It is written by the authors of the blog RookieMoms and has real world advice, not pithy or unhelpful ideas, but suggestions that I would definitely use, from the baby years up to teens. They answer all kinds of questions, like how to take care of a baby on an airplane or how to rid a bedroom of monsters. They also give tips for things like what foods your teen should know how to cook or how to put a positive spin on what you say in front of your kids. For example, instead of saying, “Charlie’s mom is an idiot”, you could say, “I don’t agree with Charlie’s mom’s choices”. I can really relate to having to stop myself and trying to say things in a way that would set a good example and I appreciate their hints. What I also found in reading through Stuff Every Mom Should Know, is that the principles of what they are getting at really shine through and not just the specific practices. That is a help to me to know what to do in any situation, even those not listed in the book.Michelle
