1. The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes And The Deep Laws Of The Cosmos [Book]
Product Details:
The bestselling author of the elegant universe and the fabric of the cosmos tackles perhaps the most mind-bending question in modern physics and cosmology: is our universe the only universe? there was a time when "universe" meant all there is. everything. yet, a number of theories are converging on the possibility that our universe may be but one among many parallel universes populating a vast multiverse.
Reviews:
Book arrived quickly, ended up being the hardcover edition. Some jacket wear.jordanhiny10
Brian Greene's explanations are top-notch and very understandable. I kept renewing the library's copy. I decided it was time to get my own copy!stojko-5
I was in a hurry to read this book because Greene's other two books are fascinating. I was a little disappointed with this one. It can be very wordy at times, filling page after page with endless argument and philosophy to make a point. The book has a lot of conjecture about what reality is and, at times, is pretty wild. Like a movie with too many sequels, this book rambles and repeats, especially the last two chapters. Like Hawking's last book, this book was published due to academic pressure and not new science. But if you want a wild and speculative ride thru all possible realities we may exist in, read this book.scottgull
2. Cosmology: The Science Of The Universe [Book]
Product Details:
Cosmology: the science of the universe is a broad introduction to the science of modern cosmology, with emphasis on its historical origins. the first edition of this best-selling book received worldwide acclaim for its lucid style and wide-ranging exploration of the universe. this eagerly awaited second edition updates and greatly extends the first with seven new chapters that explore early scientific cosmology, cartesian and newtonian world systems, cosmology after newton and before einstein, special relativity, observational cosmology, inflation and creation of the universe. all chapters conclude with a section entitled reflections containing provocative topics that will foster lively debate. the new projects section, also at the end of each chapter, raises questions and issues to challenge the reader.

3. Spacetime, Geometry, Cosmology [Book]
Product Details:
This novel interpretation of the relationship between space, time, and gravitation and its cosmological implications is based on the author's discovery of a small but significant value in gravitation that was overlooked by both newton and einstein. dubbed the "burke potential," it resolved an issue with gravitation measurements and rates of entropy related to the discovery of a time-varying part of the local gravitational field. the treatment provides many examples and applications to the geometric language and ideas that are essential to modern theoretical physics. nearly every section concludes with a selection of problems. prerequisites include a familiarity with linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, and special relativity. for graduate-level educators and students in physics, relativity, astrophysics, and cosmology.
Reviews:
This book is essentially a simplified and much shortened version of the Misner-Thorne-Wheeler text. Burke presents the calculus of differential forms in a clear, intuitive way that can be used in all areas of physics. He shows how the standard vector pictures are confusing, misleading and obsolete, especially for visualizing and thinking purposes. The book is loaded with visual examples and exercises. Do not hesitate to purchase it, as it is excellent and out-of-print. You are ready for this material if you have been introduced to the covariant Maxwell equations and special relativity.pseudovector

5. The Joyous Cosmology: Adventures In The Chemistry Of Consciousness [Book]
Product Details:
A classic account of the psychedelic experience the joyous cosmology is alan watts's exploration of the insight that the consciousness-changing drugs lsd, mescaline, and psilocybin can facilitate "when accompanied with sustained philosophical reflection by a person who is in search, not of kicks, but of understanding." more than an artifact, it is both a riveting memoir of watts's personal experiments and a profound meditation on our perennial questions about the nature of existence and the existence of the sacred. includes watts's article "psychedelics and religious experience"
Reviews:
Alan Watts does a wonderful job of describing the indescribable, making sense of that which does not make any sense. A wonderful read for any one fascinated in esoteric questions about the universe, and how psychedelics play into the equation. Must read!!!Nick

6. An Introduction To Modern Cosmology [Book]

Product Details:
An introduction to modern cosmology third edition is an accessible account of modern cosmological ideas. the big bang cosmology is explored, looking at its observational successes in explaining the expansion of the universe, the existence and properties of the cosmic microwave background, and the origin of light elements in the universe. properties of the very early universe are also covered, including the motivation for a rapid period of expansion known as cosmological inflation. the third edition brings this established undergraduate textbook up-to-date with the rapidly evolving observational situation. this fully revised edition of a bestseller takes an approach which is grounded in physics with a logical flow of chapters leading the reader from basic ideas of the expansion described by the friedman equations to some of the more advanced ideas about the early universe. it also incorporates up-to-date results from the planck mission, which imaged the anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background radiation over the whole sky. the advanced topic sections present subjects with more detailed mathematical approaches to give greater depth to discussions. student problems with hints for solving them and numerical answers are embedded in the chapters to facilitate the reader's understanding and learning. cosmology is now part of the core in many degree programs. this current, clear and concise introductory text is relevant to a wide range of astronomy programs worldwide and is essential reading for undergraduates and masters students, as well as anyone starting research in cosmology.
7. The Cosmic Landscape: String Theory And The Illusion Of Intelligent Design [Book]
Product Details:
The beginning of the 21st century is a watershed in modern science, a time that will forever change our understanding of the universe, susskind contends. several decades ago, he introduced the revolutionary concept of string theory to the world of physical science. in doing so, he inspired a generation of physicists who believed that the theory would uniquely predict the properties of our universe. now, in his first book, susskind argues that the very idea of such an "elegant theory" no longer suits our understanding of the universe, and that our narrow 20th-century view of a unique universe will have to give way to the much broader concept of a gigantic cosmic landscape–a megaverse, pregnant with new possibilities.–from publisher description.

I have bought this nice book some weeks ago and I am completely satisfied with it, but I wanna see this book in hardcover only, sure this costs publisher additional charges but it makes keeping, storing and reading book enjoyable and preserves it for long term period and thus integrity… I obtained it because I enjoy exploring and digging in science, scientific puzzles that occupy human brain from ancient time, and we are lucky to live in this cosmic landscape and cosmic era, lucky enough to see Large Hadron Collider etc.rufatsafaraliyev
8. Lonely Hearts Of The Cosmos: The Story Of The Scientific Quest For The Secret Of The Universe [Book]

9. The Fabric Of The Cosmos: Space, Time, And The Texture Of Reality [Book]

Product Details:
National bestseller – from one of the world’s leading physicists and author of the pulitzer prize finalist the elegant universe, comes “an astonishing ride” through the universe (the new york times) that makes us look at reality in a completely different way. yet they remain among the most mysterious of concepts. is space an entity? why does time have a direction? could the universe exist without space and time? greene has set himself a daunting task: to explain non-intuitive, mathematical concepts like string theory, the heisenberg uncertainty principle, and inflationary cosmology with analogies drawn from common experience. from newton’s unchanging realm in which space and time are absolute, to einstein’s fluid conception of spacetime, to quantum mechanics’ entangled arena where vastly distant objects can instantaneously coordinate their behavior, greene takes us all, regardless of our scientific backgrounds, on an irresistible and revelatory journey to the new layers of reality that modern physics has discovered lying just beneath the surface of our everyday world.
Reviews:
This is a fantastic guide to quantum science, but make sure you understand the basics before you try to read it in its entirety. Yes, it does cover the key material, but you will get so much more out of it if you understand at least classical physics first.
This is a wonderful introduction to the nature of our universe. Although it is written for the layman, it covers very well the essential issues behind very esoteric concepts, helping to explain, not only what is known in cosmology, but what is not known. It's well written and very satisfying reading for those with intellectual curiosity.joshuaschenkein
Very interesting book about string theory. Not an easy read but very good.v8goody

12. Flat Space Cosmology: A New Model Of The Universe Incorporating Astronomical Observations Of Black Holes, Dark Energy And Dark Matter [Book]

Product Details:
This compilation based upon recent peer-reviewed journal publications encapsulates how the flat space cosmology model (fsc) has become the primary competitor to the inflationary standard model of cosmology. new ideas concerning black holes, dark energy and dark matter are presented and shown to correlate extremely well with astronomical observations. anyone who follows the fast-changing science of cosmology, has an interest in the latest developments, and would like to know how it is that our universe appears to follow equations one would ordinarily expect for a time-reversed black hole (!), may find this book to be fascinating. cosmology is the study of how the universe has changed over the great span of time (roughly 14 billion years). later centuries will look back upon the period from 1990-2030 as a 'golden age' of theoretical and observational cosmology. some of the material presented in this book is on the cutting edge of dark energy and dark matter theoretical work. this book summarizes, for the first time, the groundbreaking publications of two cosmologists, one from the united states and the other from india, from 2015 thru 2020. during this highly productive period, the authors stealthily published their papers in six different peer-reviewed scientific journals, so that the model could be quietly explored in all aspects before bringing it all together in a single book. this is that book!
13. Conceptions Of Cosmos: From Myths To The Accelerating Universe: A History Of Cosmology [Book]

Product Details:
This book is a historical account of how natural philosophers and scientists have endeavoured to understand the universe at large, first in a mythical and later in a scientific context. starting with the creation stories of ancient egypt and mesopotamia, the book covers all the major events in theoretical and observational cosmology, from aristotle's cosmos over the copernican revolution to the discovery of the accelerating universe in the late 1990s. it presents cosmology as a subject including scientific as well as non-scientific dimensions, and tells the story of how it developed into a true science of the heavens. contrary to most other books in the history of cosmology, it offers an integrated account of the development with emphasis on the modern einsteinian and post-einsteinian period. starting in the pre-literary era, it carries the story onwards to the early years of the 21st century.
14. Living Cosmology: Christian Responses To Journey Of The Universe [Book]
Product Details:
Journey of the universe is both a book, a film, and a conversation series by mary evelyn tucker and brian swimme that offers a rich unfolding of “the universe story”–a moving narrative of cosmic evolution from the origins of the cosmos to the present. this volume explores the christian responses to the universe story and its implications for the contemporary environmental crisis. beginning with excerpts from recent statements by pope francis and the ecumenical patriarch bartholomew, the book draws on the contributions of leading theologians, ethicists, scientists, and activists, including john haught, ilia delio, catherine keller, larry rasmussen, and more than twenty-five others.

This book is funny and pretty good for having been written by a non-believer. I like how he backs up what I already know using observations in the universe that are not so obvious to most of us lay-persons. I bought the book because it was recommended by a time-travelling friend who says the author is correct in his hypotheses. He may be correct but what he says is still slightly "One Step Beyond" when he does mathematical equations. I like reading the book.phylenna

20. Modern Cosmology [Ebook]

Product Details:
Modern cosmology begins with an introduction to the smooth, homogeneous universe described by a friedman-robertson-walker metric, including careful treatments of dark energy, big bang nucleosynthesis, recombination, and dark matter. from this starting point, the reader is introduced to perturbations about an frw universe: their evolution with the einstein-boltzmann equations, their generation by primordial inflation, and their observational consequences. these consequences include the anisotropy spectrum of the cosmic microwave background (cmb) featuring acoustic peaks and polarization, the matter power spectrum with baryonic wiggles, and their detection via photometric galaxy surveys, redshift distortions, cluster abundances, and weak lensing. the book concludes with a long chapter on data analysis. modern cosmology is the first book to explain in detail the structure of the acoustic peaks in the cmb, the e/b decomposition in polarization which may allow for detection of primordial gravity waves, and the modern analysis techniques used on increasingly large cosmological data sets. readers will gain the tools needed to work in cosmology and learn how modern observations are rapidly revolutionizing our picture of the universe. provides foundations, calculations, and interpretations which illuminate current thinking in cosmology covers the major advances in cosmology over the past decade includes over 100 unique, pedagogical figures
