1. Human Psychology 101: Understanding The Human Mind And What Makes People Tick [Book]

Product Details:
Understanding the human mind is a complicated array of wirings of the past combined with the physical and chemical inclinations of the present. psychology is the study of the human brain, but it's so much more than a mere dissection of the gooey gray mass trapped in our skulls; it's a study of what makes us tick as individuals and as a species. human psychology 101: understanding the human mind and what makes people tick is meant to show you the facets of a human being and how they work together to make a person tick. it's not a psychological treatise or a dsm-v. it's a collection of my own research of psychology and stories from my life and those of my friends and acquaintances that help illustrate the principles i'm going to be telling you about. i will be dividing this book into seven aspects of human psychology: emotions, personality, decision-making, morality, perception, behavior, and relationships. to understand what makes someone tick is to have mastered a sort of psychological sleight of hand, and i hope that this book serves as a useful step on your way to mastery over that brand of magic trick. i hope you are as pumped as i am to think about the inner workings of how people tick.

2. The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided By Politics And Religion [Book]

Product Details:
In "the righteous mind", psychologist jonathan haidt answers some of the most compelling questions about human relationships: why can it sometimes feel as though half the population is living in a different moral universe? why do ideas such as 'fairness' and 'freedom' mean such different things to different people? why is it so hard to see things from another viewpoint? he explores how morality evolved to enable us to form communities, and how moral values are not just about justice and equality – for some people authority, sanctity or loyalty matter more. morality binds and blinds, but, using his own research, haidt proves it is possible to liberate ourselves from the disputes that divide good people. "a landmark contribution to humanity's understanding of itself". ("the new york times"). "a truly seminal book". (david goodhart, "prospect"). "a tour de force – brave, brilliant, and eloquent. it will challenge the way you think about liberals and conservatives, atheism and religion, good and evil". (paul bloom, author of "how pleasure works"). "compelling … a fluid combination of erudition and entertainment". (ian birrell, "observer"). "lucid and thought-provoking … deserves to be widely read". (jenni russell, "sunday times"). jonathan haidt is a social and cultural psychologist. he has been on the faculty of the university of virginia since 1995 and is currently a visiting professor of business ethics at new york university's stern school of business. he is the co-editor of "flourishing: positive psychology" and the "life well lived", and is the author of "the happiness hypothesis: finding modern truth in ancient wisdom".

Reviews:
This was a text for a class I am taking, I did not expect much from it, except reading assignments. I was pleased to find that it was much more – not only it is an interesting read, it really does explain how we can all be GOOD people yet have very different views on politics and religion. The author uses real life examples and as well as data and studies to explain how measuring moral decisions and foundations play a role in how we treat each other and determine what is fair, right and acceptable in society.magyar5615
It does exactly what the subtitle suggests and explains the root causes of divisions between religions and politics and many other social challenges. I read it, then I studied it, and bought his earlier and latest books. We may be able to save humanity before it destroys itself with this knowledge. Haidt has some great YouTube videos. They'll make you want to buy his books if this is an area of interest to you.Pokken

Reviews:
I have just ordered two more copies, after only reading the intro.—and Prof. Peterson's numerous interviews simply expand my own heart. In this climate of high anxiety and appalling lack of compassion, echoed by Hugh MacKay in AUSTRALIA REIMAGINED. It is no wonder that he has an enthralled audience of millions, world- wide. My wish is that Prof. Peterson will produce a primer affirming our children and youth, to give them hope— for our learning young to master before they get to our Uni's. that have to do their own serious reflecting. In my opinion. AND to give our valiant teachers stronger morale and endurance—as so vividly depicted in Gabbie Stroud's TEACHER, also published last year. Finally, the more I devour of the Prof.'s 'Rules' the more I want to yell my rental's roof off , in agreement—our kids CAN be brought up in a far better world, if we follow Jordan's example of such raw courage and exemplary scholarship and teaching. I only wish that I could buy another 12 copies to share around !KCKLL
This is the third book I purchase as a gift. Jordan Peterson tells it as it is in how one should behave to be a functional human being in society. This is sadly supposed to be the role of parents but not many parents nurture their kids anymore by teaching them the basic life skills. I've seen so many young people can't keep their own room organised yet trying to solve the world's most complex problem. Let's keep it to basic – stand up straight, make yourself better than who you are yesterday and clean up your room before you try to solve any life's complex problem. You will be more content and happier in life and no longer feeling depressed all the time. Great for both men, women and anyone. I'm a woman who loves this book. This book has changed my life!!This book changes my life
An excellent book written with great depth and understanding about living a life. It is necessary to read at least twice to get a more complete picture of what Peterson is on about. Best of all this book made me think deeply about living a life and the ultimate ending of that life. Highly recommended but only to serious readers and certainly not for shallow thinking people.Bob

I have been recommending it right, left and center as an ideal follow on for anyone who found some resonance with The Body Keeps the Score, works in advocacy, social work or education or has experience with burnout, vicarious trauma, caring or complex family environments.
