If you've read "How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind," and you watch Dana's YouTube channel, this is not new content. It is simplified for newcomers or those that don't want to buy the aforementioned book, but really, just watch her YT channel and you'll save yourself needed funds. I really don't like the section on folding laundry directly from the dryer. The minutes it takes to accomplish this are minutes that could be spent saving gas or electricity keeping the dryer hot. I pull my laundry out (neatly, not in crumples) and throw in the items from the washer so the dryer never has to work to heat back up. I know Dana thinks the minutes spent folding directly are too small to matter, but not everyone has a new appliance, and even those of us that do might want to get out of our cold laundry area and fold while watching her YouTube channel instead.M S in GA

From an extremely experienced packrat, I found assistance from this book in analyzing my bad habits. It offered ideas to battle my idiosyncracies. It must be working – I haven't bought anything on eBay in over a month! LOL! If there's one area in which I may not see eye-to-eye with Peter Walsh, it involves keepsakes and mementos. As a mother of 2 daughters, I tend to stockpile knickknacks for their memory boxes. Women tend to have a deeper attachment to "items" which men just don't get. It's my belief that women have a better connection to the past, and "things" trigger those memories. Guys (esp. my hubby!) just want to chuck everything! Thank goodness MOST of us are not psycho hoarders. Or cat collectors–you know who you are. Those folks would not get as much out of It's all too much– as more middle of the road collector/stuff keepers. Walsh deals on the emotional level and those folks who need a gentle push start. Semi-clutterbugs and not those who have kept everything and I mean EVERYTHING they ever received and more they've found. Major psychological help for those dudes and dudettes. He's telling us in a calm and coherent way to get rid of the crap and you will lead a better and happier life. Like emotional eating this is emotional keeping! I really like Peter Walsh's style in this book. It is simple and straight forward advice on how to live a better life with less stuff. Although I am not a hoarder, this book has great advice for everyday living with those things that matter most. He describes the reason some people hang on to things and gives practical tips on how you can honor them in your home, or get rid of them. The version of this book that has the black Netflix circle on the cover (which is the version being shipped out as of the time of this review) does not come with labels like the original version did. The back cover still says there are labels but they are not included and therefore a bit awkward for a gift, etc.L

I discussed this book years ago with a friend of mine when she purchased it as a new release. She told me how it would change everything, but at the time, I didn't really think I needed it. I've always had a bit of a minimalist attitude, make trips to donate unused items and gifts, spend for need (not wants) mostly, and am fairly organized. After watching the author on her most recent Netflix show, however, my interest was piqued. I read this book in one sitting and found her stories of how she became a consultant delightful. Inspired, I immediately went to work, implementing her suggestions, and honestly can't believe the difference. Tidying up has allowed me to re-organize my house into a space that I now actually like. The Writing: It's quite funny, I knowI evaluate books writing quite harshly, yet my own is not up to par as of this moment. For the most part, manga should be critique differently than novels in my opinion. Why? 90% of manga that I have chosen to read has always been good and has always captured my attention. Does it seem bias? I think so since I haven't picked up any that I don't like. I don't think there was a manga that I decided that I was going to read and not finished. I must say, this was not an exception to that. As like most comics, it was captivating, it was intriguing, it was everything a manga is and should be. It may not be to some, but manga I also noticed that I laugh out loud a lot to every manga that I have read. It has some human that I fairly enjoy. Side note: I was extremely excited when I saw this came out! I haven't read manga in so long and was please to stumble upon a mange over 6 years later! The Message: Tidying !!! In the best, light hearted way. It does give me inspiration as the rest of her other books. It makes me think every time I see an untidy corner or spot in my house. The message is clear and concise. The character has flaws that I have that I can relate to. The protagonist also have qualities that I quite admire. The Story: How did an author include a love story in tidying is beyond me! Over the past 3 years my husband and I have sold one house and moved and are now in process of moving again. During this time I have done quite a bit of decluttering and de-owning. This is a great little book to read and learn from as you seek to declutter and organize your home or apartment. I like that the book is small so I took it back and forth the past 2 weeks as we are in transition to move. It easily fit in my purse to pull out and read whenever I had a few minutes to spare. Marie Kondo runs an acclaimed consulting business in Tokyo helping clients transform their cluttered homes into spaces of serenity and inspiration. With a three-month waiting list her KonMari Method of decluttering and organizing has become an international phenomenon. In the life-changing magic of tidying up she shares her experiences what led her to create this current method of decluttering homes and how you can apply this method to your house. I found this book to be interesting and helpful. I did already have a head start on decluttering so some of what she shared I had already done. She says that people have items spread out through the house like shirts etc. and asks that they gather all like items together. Maybe I am strange as I had already done this. At the same time I learned several other things from her technique that proved helpful to me. I can see when we complete our move that I could use this method and make the new house decluttered and keep it that way. She does share some things that sound uniquely Japanese but it is easy to take what works for our western homes and apply it. A good book with lots of useful tips. It has a chapter on each room in the home and also a section on offices. It sets out a plan for how to 'attack' each are in you home and gives you a rough time frame of how long each area should take. It's not a fairy godmother wand, you do need to put work into her methods to make them work but if you're serious about organising your life then it's well worth a read. Also has some information on the psychological reasons for why we may be sabotaging ourselves in this area and tips for how to overcome them.

I was somewhat skeptical when I read that her organizational model was built upon a kindergarten classroom, but after I read her logic, it makes perfect sense! The woman is a genius! If you are willing to take a little time and stick to her formula, voila! You can have an organized life that works within the constraints of each individual existing habits.
