1. Power Hold'em Strategy [Book]
Product Details:
This power-packed book on beating no-limit hold'em is one of the three most influential poker books ever written. negreanu headlines a collection of young, great players – todd brunson, david williams, erick lindgren, evelyn ng and paul wasicka – who share their insider professional moves and winning secrets. you'll learn about short-handed and heads-up play, high-limit cash games, a powerful beginner's strategy to neutralize professional players, how to mix up your play, bluff, and win big pots. the centerpiece, however, is negreanu's powerful and revolutionary small ball strategy. you'll learn how to play hold'em with cards you never would have played before – and with fantastic results. the preflop, flop, turn and river will never look the same again. a must-have!
Reviews:
Daniel Negreanu's section is a great insight into the way professionals play their poker. He describes in depth his small-ball poker concept in which his strategy is to see as many flops as possible with hand that aren't huge favourites preflop but can develop into monsters. The other sections in the book are a bit hit or miss.
This is a great book that will help many poker players improve there game. Concepts that you will read in this book will help you understand all of the important factors that go into your decision making. I recommend this book for anyone trying to become a more consistent winner in poker.lil.dude.777
Great intro to small-ball play as well as advanced techniques. I've modeled my own play around this system and have had the last 5 years profitable (good side-income for uni). Daniel is one of the better poker players around and to make the book even more appealing, he is probably the best writer amongst poker players. There's also great insight from players such as Lindgren and Todd Brunson.

Reviews:
Phil Helmuth's book "Play Poker Like the Pros" is a great book for beginners, amatuers, and pro's alike. Although much of his book is geared for new comers to the game, Phil's insight on Poker Stradegy is great for anyone who loves the game. This is the first Poker book I ever purchased, and it improved my game by leaps and bounds. Although I've come to find my own style, as he would recommend, I still use several fundamentals that Helmuth wrote on. This book is a MUST READ any poker fanatic, I couldn't lay it down! It will helps you poker knowledge & wallet grow greatly! And as always may your cards be live and your pots be monsters!funwithfisks
We loved the book – it referred to places and people we have met and have visited. My husband continues to use it as a reference and also tells my son about various recommendations made within the pages.Tyroneus
Like Phil or not, he is a pro and has a lot of poker understanding. I have only been playing for a few years and this book was a great foundation for my game. Not to say it's just a "basic" book – it covers most aspects of the game including reading other players and solid poker theory. It's a easy read as well. I also like that he covers Omaha in the book.lovedabruins

Another excellent sitngo resource, but not for the beginner…The material contained in this book is geared towards the upper intermediate to advanced level player…A good reference/resource for the serious player, but definitely not a casual read.wildsidewanderer
This book provides a detailed analysis into Sit-and-Go (SNG) games which have increase in popularity over the years. Its a fairly straightforward aggressive style, based on some mathmatics, which puts maximum pressure on other players, particually near the bubble. Following the ideas in the book will most likley improve your results, however luck and other players will determine if its a winning stragegy depending on the games you play. In the smaller limit SNG's (say $5 or less) some of these ideas do break down a little bit as you end up gambling more and getting them to fold less. In all the style is a little too aggressive for my own tastes, however I am sure that this level of aggression is needed in higher limit SNG's. There is also some information regarding satellites and how that effects your decision making process. All in all a good read, particularly if you are playing SNG's. Solid strategy and not too advanced.
Excellent book, learned alot of little tips about STT's that only the pros would know. Been doing noticeably better on pokerstars since reading the booktherealryanmchugh

I was, in a word, amazed by this book. It looks like an introductory book, but turns out to be so much more. It is so well-written that difficult concepts become easy, and once you get past the basic chapters, Wenzel tackles some serious stuff: bluffing, pot odds, why poker isn't gambling, isolation, trapping, position play, online play, tells, tournament play, etc. This book is better than books that sell for three times the price.winzoo

Reviews:
It's a great book if you are looking to play vers a variety of people. But this is not a book geared for tournie play, more for money games. As it goes it to playing vers people who aren't there specfically to win. It's a good read regardless.databug13
This is the book I needed, but did not know. Lots of good stuff. More ideas on why people (and myself) do the dumb stuff at the tables. I recommend this book, well worth whatever you pay for it. Good luck.scratches12
This book provides an insight into the many demanding psychological skills and strategies of poker play. The author, a respected psychologist in the poker community, emphasises the need to understand these elements, know when to apply them, and strategically developing your approach to the game. The book divides this knowledge into several main chapters – the right stuff; the right skills, styles and ratings, the loose-aggressive player; the loose-passive player; the tight-passive player; and the tight-aggressive player. ‘The Psychology of Poker’ is considered one the foundation books all poker players should read to assist in the understanding of themselves and their opponents at the table. Highly recommended.

Sequel which continues the interesting poker method.robbe-38
Strategies from a true legend, with a few flaws Written by one of the true goliath’s in poker history, I eagerly bought this book, excited by the fact that Doyle had enlisted the aid of a dozen other top poker authorities to each tackle a separate chapter, each discussing different poker games. The book, in my opinion, could have used a good editor, as it reads in an extraordinarily disjointed manner – I suppose that’s inevitable when every chapter is written by a different author, but developing a consistent voice is one of the tasks of a good proof-reader or editor. That being said, I found the different writing styles somewhat refreshing, especially since the book covers so many different games, resulting in the stylistic differences not being nearly as noticeable as they otherwise would have been. I particularly liked the sections on limit hold’em and omaha, which are typically my two games of choice. I was somewhat disappointed with the NL hold’em section – I know that’s Doyle’s bread and butter, but I was at least hoping that he would have updated some of his material since Super System I – alas, I found many of the chapters had been lifted verbatim from that text, which incidentally isn’t regarded all that highly by many of today’s poker authors. Surely he has learned some new tips and tricks in the last 20 years that he could pass on to the reader, hasn’t he?? One thing I could have done without are the endless (and shameless) plugs Doyle makes for his own online website. I know we’ve all probably done some self-serving promotions in our time, but I thought Doyle’s talk as though his website was the king of all online poker sites was sorely, sorely misguided – anyone who plays online will tell you that Doyle’s site is no more than a bit player that nips at the heels of the larger sites such as Party, Empire, Stars, Ultimate Bet, and the like. Presenting it as the be all and end all of online poker I thought was quite misleading, although readers are naturally advised to draw their own conclusions. Regardless of what site you choose as your online home, you can find sign-up bonus codes floating around the internet that will make your sign-up far more worthwhile. Some reviewer here pointed out that POKERCROAKER.com kept theirs updated fairly frequently. Regardless, I have no reservations in recommending this book to anyone looking to improve their game, if for no other reason than Doyle is one of the living legends, and it gives fascinating insight into his poker game. That being said, I much preferred the chapters written by other authors, especially Harman and Negraneau.
11. Applications Of No-Limit Hold 'em: A Guide To Understanding Theoretically Sound Poker [Book]
Product Details:
One of the most daunting moments in a poker player's career occurs when he realizes his knowledge of how to play a specific hand well is incomplete without the additional understanding of how to play every other hand in his range well. this task would be impossible if a player had to actually think about every other hand in his range, but by understanding theoretical sound poker, he can quickly design balanced ranges using the proper bet-sizing while playing.applications of no-limit hold 'em teaches theoretical sound poker, and thus the ability to create the bet-sizings and ranges which will beat the better players. the theory in this book is not designed to be complex or abstract, but rather it's intended to be applied immediately producing better overall results.many confusing concepts such as overbetting, balancing multiple bet-sizing ranges, donk betting, and check-raising as the preflop raiser are crucial to a player's strategy despite few players implementing them or talking about them. and after reading this book, you should be able to not only conceptually understand these ideas, but also know how to begin incorporating them into your game, and thereby successfully compete against tough opponents.

I thought the Harrington on Hold'em tournament series was great, and these books take the same approach to cash games. These are BY FAR the best out there for full ring NLHE. I was a little dissapointed that he didn't get into 6 max or head's up play, but the material on full ring was FAR superior to anything out right now. Get these books and read them SEVERAL times, and you will never look at the game the same way again!MotorcycleMike

Let's face it. How to books are by nature-boring. I bought three copies of this book so that I can stash them is separate locations and continue reading. If you're gonna play hold-em, you might as well play smart-right?kscoradio
Having recently discovered that i enjoy playing poker i bought this book as a primer to quickly get to grips with the basics of tournament play. The major positive of this book is that it starts from the ground up, you can jump in to it with little per-requisite knowledge. Having said that if you know a little already, you will be able to get through the initial chapters quickly. I also really enjoyed how each chapter is followed by lots of questions and example hands you can work through to test how well you have developed your understanding of what been discussed. No real negatives to this book, this book is not aimed at experienced players therefore you cannot expect much beyond solid fundamental knowledge. I did not give this book five stars as it only teaches one method, the tight aggressive method, of playing. That is okay but a bit more on how you act differently if playing looser, or how to counter act looser aggressive players would have been appreciated too considering how many good loose players you will come up against if you go deep into tournaments. Very good primer on tournament poker, great base to build your poker knowledge on.hackney_raja
I highly recommend that new players read this book, and the other two volumes after at least learning the basics of hold 'em. I felt this book really helped improve my game, and think about certain situations in a much better way. The style it is written in is very easy to read, and isn't too advanced so that most people will get a lot out of the book. Poker has changed a lot since this book was published, but most of the strategies and advice still hold up today. No doubt reading and applying what you learn in this book will improve your game if you are an average, fairly new player or someone who has been playing casually and is looking to take their game to the next level. I've read volume 1 and 2 and now onto the 3rd. I also have the two cash game books on the way. I used to play a lot of poker several years ago, and then took a break from the game and just recently over the past few months have been playing a lot more often. After completing this book, I cashed in 2nd place in a fairly large MTT for $700. I am still playing at micro/low stakes mostly, but I feel this advice provides a good foundation to build on. I have a list of other poker books I want to read as well, such as "The Theory of Poker" and Mike Caro's Book of Tells. Anyways, this is a great poker book in my opinion, and any player should take the time to give it a read. It can be picked up used for just a few bucks, and is well worth the price. I would probably not even mind paying full price for a new copy, but I typically buy used books if not purchasing Kindle e-books.r1ding
