1. Elderhood: Redefining Aging, Transforming Medicine, Reimagining Life [Book]
Product Details:
Finalist for the pulitzer prize in general nonfiction – a new york times bestseller – longlisted for the andrew carnegie medal for excellence in nonfiction – winner of the wsu aos bonner book award – winner of the 2022 at home with growing older impact award – as revelatory as atul gawande’s being mortal, physician and award-winning author louise aronson’s elderhood is an essential, empathetic look at a vital but often disparaged stage of life. – for more than 5,000 years, "old" has been defined as beginning between the ages of 60 and 70. that means most people alive today will spend more years in elderhood than in childhood, and many will be elders for 40 years or more. – reminiscent of oliver sacks, noted harvard-trained geriatrician louise aronson uses stories from her quarter century of caring for patients, and draws from history, science, literature, popular culture, and her own life to weave a vision of old age that’s neither nightmare nor utopian fantasy–a vision full of joy, wonder, frustration, outrage, and hope about aging, medicine, and humanity itself. – elderhood is for anyone who is, in the author's own words, "an aging, i.e., still-breathing human being."

8. Shame And The Aging Woman: Confronting And Resisting Ageism In Contemporary Women's Writings [Book]
Product Details:
This book brings together the research findings of contemporary feminist age studies scholars, shame theorists, and feminist gerontologists in order to unfurl the affective dynamics of gendered ageism. in her analysis of what she calls “embodied shame,” j. brooks bouson describes older women’s shame about the visible signs of aging and the health and appearance of their bodies as they undergo the normal processes of bodily aging. examining both fictional and nonfiction works by contemporary north american and british women authors, this book offers a sustained analysis of the various ways that ageism devalues and damages the identities of otherwise psychologically healthy women in our graying culture. shame theory, as bouson shows, astutely explains why gendered ageism is so deeply entrenched in our culture and why even aging feminists may succumb to this distressing, but sometimes hidden, cultural affliction.

I haven't read the book yet as I saw it as the reasonable price! I read lots of Joyce Meyer books.rosasla_0
As always, this was another great book from Joyce Meyer. As a person in my thirties you'd think that this book wouldn't apply to me, however, that would be greatly mistaken. Although many things in the book were applicable to people in retirement age, a lot of the advice would work for any one. There were so many helpful tips that meant something in this book. Joyce recommends to reduce stress and to learn to adapt to your limitations. Don t push yourself so far if you don't feel you can. Listen to your body and mind. Your normal will change and learn to accept who you are. She also recommends you to try to exercise and drink plenty of water. Try to stay healthy and feel good about yourself. Lastly, remember to spend time with God and friends that help you and support you. This book is full of advice to apply as you get older. I really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it for anyone entering a different phase of life. Lastly, I want to thank the publisher and the author for giving me the opportunity to receive this complimentary book. I was not obligated to post a positive or negative review.Bookworm

We live in a world full of toxins and I like to take the holistic approach to anything that I can. I use a lot of coconut oil on my face, but honestly when it comes to face-wash and moisturizer, I haven't typically gone the holistic route. But this book really opened my eyes. I also really enjoy that there is a nutrition section, because it is so important to overall health – including skin! This is a great read. Lots of fun tips/advice, but also lots of informative information and facts.John
Health is definitely a very important part of all our lives. This book has so many fabulous tips for being able to maintain good health. Excellent and definitely a must read. Stay healthy.John

I really love and highly recommend this book, as it is comprehensive and well-written. This is a book I would definitely go back and refer to from time to time for anti-aging advice!Omar
17. Better With Age: The Psychology Of Successful Aging [Ebook]
Product Details:
Age is an important number, but it can also be deceiving. after 40, most people say they feel younger than their years, some lie about their age, and many attempt to hide the signs of growing old. better with age addresses the many myths and paradoxes about the aging process. although most people think of their later years in terms of decline, they can be one of the best times in life. this book presents the latest scientific research about the psychology of aging, coupled with insights from those who have succeeded in doing it well, such as maya angelou, bob newhart, jared diamond, john glenn, and john wooden. retirement, happiness, and brain health are some of the many topics covered in this book.
Reviews:
As people live longer and as bodies continue to break down with age, quality of life becomes more important for present and future generations, especially with the specter of Alzheimer's becoming more and more prevalent. While there is no current prevention or cure for dementia, Better with Age offers some self-help approaches that can help strengthen the brain. But first, a disclaimer: readers who expect to be spoon-fed routines might be disappointed to learn that, especially in this case, self-help emphasizes self. There is no path to transformation that doesn't take place without reader participation; no pat and easy answers; and many routines that require an active, ongoing participation in exercises and approaches that strengthen brain functions. Those with a 'can-do' attitude who seek concrete ideas for such exercises will find Better with Age is firmly rooted in the latest brain research and takes the 'training' ideas of physical therapy into brain-strengthening areas. Readers should thus be prepared to invest a minimum of 15 minutes a day to following the program provided, and should have sufficient motivation and ability to follow directions and document results. Chapters provide overviews of how the brain changes with age, how it develops different strengths at different ages, and how to 'rebalance' the brain's thought processes to improve short- and long-term memory and provide the positive conditioning that leads it to choose better paths. With its discussions of psychology, physiology, and brain research, approaches to retraining are reinforced by concrete research and facts. The result is a practical, applicable handbook requiring neither reader familiarity with brain research and cognitive theory nor complex routines. All that's needed is a commitment to changing lifestyles just a little to make brain exercise as important as physical fitness. This audience will find Better with Age offers an approach that is concrete and actionable.DiDonovan

Reviews:
The information is accurate; it works.bubblebranes7
While reading this book parts of it kept my interest while other parts made me want to put it down. Mainly this book helps explain nutrition; how vitamins and minerals work in the body and how they help you. It talks about "cutting edge research" but this book was written a dozen years ago and much of that research is more mainstream now. If you are interested in keeping your youth and staying young as long as you can this book would be a nice addition to your library.trogdor92
