1. Life Of Christ

Product Details:
This used book is in good condition. this book is missing its dust jacket. widely proclaimed a classic work of christian faith, life of christ has been hailed as the most eloquent of fulton j. sheen's many books. the fruit of many years of reflection, prayer, and research, it is a dramatic and moving recounting of the birth, life, crucifixion, and resurrection of christ, and a passionate portrait of the god-man, the teacher, the healer, and, most of all, the savior, whose promise has sustained humanity for two millenia. with his customary insight and reverence, sheen interprets the scripture and describes christ not only in historical perspective but also in exciting and contemporary terms — seeing in christ's life both modern parallels and timeless lessons. his thoughtful, probing analysis provides new insight into well-known gospel events. an appealing blend of philosophy, history, and biblical exegesis, from the best-known and most-loved american catholic leader of the twentieth century, life of christ has long been a source of inspiration and guidance. for those seeking to better understand the message of jesus christ, this vivid retelling of the greatest story ever lived is a must-read.
Reviews:
A deep insight to the life of Christ. If you're a hesitant or boarderline believer; this book will change your life and perspective on Christ because of how detailed and compelling the evidence of His existence, life and miracles are shown in this book. I was a believer before now I understand!mijemojo
I began the book a week ago. It certainly is interesting and well written. But, it can be rather challenging to comprehend the spiritual paths the book takes. My impression so far is that this is not an historical recounting of the Lord's days on earth, but an explanation of why He walked the earth pursuing His divine mission. Enjoyable so far.David J.

"this is a wonderful, thoughtful book that conveys difficult truths in a spirit of humility. every christian should read this, and it will likely influence the church for years to come."–publishers weekly, starred review"an engaging, challenging, and morally compelling study."–library journal"essential reading for all christian leaders."–cba retailersdavid kinnaman is coauthor of unchristian, you lost me, and good faith. he is president of barna group, a leading research and communications company that works with churches, nonprofits, and businesses ranging from film studios to financial services. since 1995, david has directed interviews with more than one million individuals and overseen hundreds of u.s. and global research studies. he and his wife live in california with their three children.gabe lyons is the founder of q–a learning community that mobilizes christians to advance the common good in society–and author of the next christians: seven ways you can live the gospel and restore the world. his work represents the perspectives of a new generation of christians and has been featured by cnn, the new york times, fox news, and usa today. gabe, his wife, rebekah, and their three children reside in manhattan, new york.
Reviews:
This book is a special research project by the now current director of the Barna Research Group. Its a porject to see what the outside world, those who do not claim a Christian faith, think and actually believe about Christianity. It is a blunt book with a mixture of comment and statistics but with some valid challenges to Christians on how they look to the world. It is based on research in the U.S. but is a very solid book and well worth a read. A little expensive here…
This book was required reading for a course. For people in Christian ministry, it was all common sense as to the perceptions of Christianity by the "outsiders." The suggested solutions, however, were simplistic and would simply be treating the symptoms as it were. The root of the rejection of Christianity lies within our culture's drift toward taking the "easy road" in life. We have generation after generation growing up with a sense of entitlement and instant gratification, each worse than the last. Christianity calls for service, denial of desires, and a disciplined life which conflicts with what the outsiders want. This is not likely to change.medman32423
This book is written from a Christian viewpoint based on studies and research done by the author -concerning the reasons for the increasing negativity towards Christians. This negativity is based on the actions of Christians themselves , due to perceived judgmental behaviors and actual actions or non actions ,taken by Christians concerning non Christians- or the unsaved , unchurched . The book lists the three main detriments of acting Christians as viewed by non Christians and the reasons for this animosity by such. The author fills a void in this area and the book comes off as a sociological study with a Christian bent , however the author is seeking an actual awareness of the issues involved and is one of the few to hit the issues head on , and actually admitting to the mainstream market that Christians, themselves- have a lot to do with this negative attitude . Mostly due to their own actions and reactions towards others. This book has gone to the main stream readers rather then being kept behind the closed doors of the non secular market . It is a unique approach to a growing issue and should be read by all with a bewilderment in the practices of exclusionary Christians .ravens_collections
4. The Case For Christ: A Journalist's Personal Investigation Of The Evidence For Jesus [Book]

Product Details:
Is there credible proof that jesus of nazareth really is the son of god? in the case for christ, lee strobel, former legal editor of the chicago tribune and new york times bestselling author, retraces his own spiritual journey from atheism to faith and builds a captivating case for christ's divinity.in this revised and updated edition of the case for christ, strobel cross-examines a dozen experts with doctorates from schools such as cambridge, princeton, and brandeis, asking hard-hitting questions–and taking a deeper look at the evidence from the fields of science, philosophy, and history. in his comprehensive investigation, strobel doesn't shy away from the challenging questions, including: how reliable is the new testament? does evidence for jesus exist outside the bible? is jesus who he said he was? is there any reason to believe the resurrection was an actual event? what does all of the evidence point to–and what does it mean today? winner of the gold medallion book award and twice nominated for the christian book of the year award, the case for christ has been adapted into a major motion picture and has now sold over five million copies worldwide.this edition includes scores of revisions and additions, including updated material on archaeological and manuscript discoveries, fresh recommendations for further study, and an interview with the author that tells dramatic stories about the book's impact, provides behind-the-scenes information, and responds to critiques of the book by skeptics.strobel's thorough examination reads like a captivating, fast-paced novel. but it's not fiction: it's a riveting quest for the truth about history's most compelling figure.
Reviews:
This book has made my understanding of the reasons behind why people became Christians in the first place clear. It is a profound factual book which lays out the historical evidence of all that Jesus did and people who knew Him did at that time. It also includes references to historical texts existing at the time the bible was written that support the bible as evidence. Well worth the purchase. I am so grateful to have read it. John Rosemond referenced it in "Parenting By the Book" and after implementing the practical advice in the latter and reading the former; my life has become so much easier and happier. It has been an amazing change, and I wish all the same happiness to all who read it.Mother = Leader
This book was an immense help to me in coming to faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. I was over 50 years old before I accepted Jesus as my Lord. Like so many people wrestling with life's problems and questions I had many things which I wanted to know about the truth of Jesus. This book was written by a journalist who started out from an atheist point of view to investigate and disprove the existence & claims of Jesus . Did he really exist ? If so, can we believe his claim to be the Son of God? and did he rise from the dead? Our external fate rests on believing in him – this book brilliantly talks through the doubts many have. The answers shocked the author and changed his life forever.flickydog
The Case for Christ uses scripture and commentary to explore the existence of Christ and how to prove it to oneself or others. The author uses theologically sound arguments based on a series of questions listed below: Questions raised: Can the biographies of Jesus be trusted?Do the biographies of Jesus stand up to scrutiny? Were Jesus' biographies reliably preserved for us?Is there credible evidence for Jesus outside his biographies?Does archaeology confirm or contradict Jesus' biographies? Is the Jesus of history the same as the Jesus of faith? Was Jesus really convinced that he was the son of God?Did Jesus fulfill the attributes of Gof?Did Jesus-And Jesus alone-Match the identity of the Messiah? Was Jesus' death a sham and his resurrection a hoax? Was Jesus' body really absent from his tomb? Was Jesus seen alive after his death on the cross? Are there any supporting facts that point to the resurrection? What does the evidence establish–and what does it mean today? In reading reviews of this book, I noticed that many who are non-believers did not feel that it convinced them of Christ's existence. They felt the book was only useful to Christians. I personally feel that this book would be a helpful tool for Christians to study for the purposes of witnessing to non-believers. Expecting non-believers to voluntarily pick up this book to read it is likely unrealistic if they simply do not care to know as many did state was the case for them. I give this book a 5-star rating and recommend it for seekers and for believers as tool to study or to witness. I received a copy of this book from netgalley. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.rhondagayle

Product Details:
The writings in this volume cast a glimmer of light upon the emerging traditions and organization of the infant church, during an otherwise little-known period of its development. a selection of letters and small-scale theological treatises from a group known as the apostolic fathers, several of whom were probably disciples of the apostles, they provide a first-hand account of the early church and outline a form of early christianity still drawing on the theology and traditions of its parent religion, judaism. included here are the first epistle of bishop clement of rome, an impassioned plea for harmony; the epistle of polycarp; the epistle of barnabas; the didache; and the seven epistles written by ignatius of antioch—among them his moving appeal to the romans that they grant him a martyr's death.for more than seventy years, penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the english-speaking world. with more than 1,700 titles, penguin classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.

Very interesting book about the the early church. Well worth purchasing.andrew*1975
When Jesus died, a new religion was born. judism first split between those who thought that the messiah had come, and those who were still looking. Paul realized that old style theocratic judism was not going to work for the nonjews in greece and turkey, so a new sect was called Christians by the Romans – non jews who followed the teaching of paul and christ, not the old ways of jews. was christ god? man? both? new christians had to figure this out. these translated letters from second century bishops give clues to how this happened.joelp3
8. Zealot: The Life And Times Of Jesus Of Nazareth [Book]

Product Details:
#1 new york times bestsellernamed one of the best books of the year bygood housekeeping – booklist – publishers weekly – bookish – two thousand years ago, an itinerant jewish preacher and miracle worker walked across the galilee, gathering followers to establish what he called the “kingdom of god.” the revolutionary movement he launched was so threatening to the established order that he was captured, tortured, and executed as a state criminal. – within decades after his shameful death, his followers would call him god. – sifting through centuries of mythmaking, reza aslan sheds new light on one of history's most influential and enigmatic characters by examining jesus through the lens of the tumultuous era in which he lived: first-century palestine, an age awash in apocalyptic fervor. scores of jewish prophets, preachers, and would-be messiahs wandered through the holy land, bearing messages from god. this was the age of zealotry—a fervent nationalism that made resistance to the roman occupation a sacred duty incumbent on all jews. and few figures better exemplified this principle than the charismatic galilean who defied both the imperial authorities and their allies in the jewish religious hierarchy. – balancing the jesus of the gospels against the historical sources, aslan describes a man full of conviction and passion, yet rife with contradiction; a man of peace who exhorted his followers to arm themselves with swords; an exorcist and faith healer who urged his disciples to keep his identity a secret; and ultimately the seditious “king of the jews” whose promise of liberation from rome went unfulfilled in his brief lifetime. aslan explores the reasons why the early christian church preferred to promulgate an image of jesus as a peaceful spiritual teacher rather than a politically conscious revolutionary. and he grapples with the riddle of how jesus understood himself, the mystery that is at the heart of all subsequent claims about his divinity. – zealot yields a fresh perspective on one of the greatest stories ever told even as it affirms the radical and transformative nature of jesus of nazareth's life and mission. the result is a thought-provoking, elegantly written biography with the pulse of a fast-paced novel: a singularly brilliant portrait of a man, a time, and the birth of a religion. – praise for zealot“riveting . . . aslan synthesizes scripture and scholarship to create an original account.”—the new yorker“a lucid, intelligent page-turner.”—los angeles times“fascinatingly and convincingly drawn . . . aslan may come as close as one can to respecting those who revere jesus as the peace-loving, turn-the-other-cheek, true son of god depicted in modern christianity, even as he knocks down that image.”—the seattle times“[aslan's] literary talent is as essential to the effect of zealot as are his scholarly and journalistic chops. . . . a vivid, persuasive portrait.”—salon“this tough-minded, deeply political book does full justice to the real jesus, and honors him in the process.”—san francisco chronicle – from the hardcover edition.
Reviews:
I enjoy reading things from other points of views. Even people who are angry and misunderstood should be allowed to write their views. I immediately caught the idea of Zealot. It is what Americans call someone who has the ability to commit very harsh acts in the name of their God. I think the writer is turning the tables. Read who Jesus really was and compare to the other Gods and decide for yourself though. I wouldn't take this book as anything more than a work of fiction.mpfanku
This book is really useful for anyone who is trying to understand how religions are created and developed. Not as good as his other book "No god but God". As a Christian, it was painful reading it at times as you are faced with facts which go against your programming. Easy to read. I was hoping there would be more about Jesus but it was more about the time Jesus lived. A very good book though.Mark G.
I am just into reading this book. As with most books on Jesus, a lot is taken with dealing with known history and putting the life of Him in perspective. The historical perspective of the times is interesting and well written. The research is there and well performed. Having stated this, and one again I am just starting to read this book. Like so much that has been written about Jesus, much is one's perspective and interpretation. Because as we all know, little is known about this great man except what was written and laid out in the Bible by many who were not with Him, such as Saul/Paul. Having said this, I still find the book fascinating and worth the read. I have never been one to shy away from different perspectives and use my own discernment (which we have been given by God) to reach some kind of opinion, conclusion.gardeningcouncil

12. Come And Welcome To Jesus Christ [Book]

Product Details:
Of all john bunyan's writings, this book most fully expresses his delight and joy in the free and gracious welcome given to sinners by jesus christ. it is a thorough exposition of john 6:37: all that the father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me i will in no wise cast out. bunyan not only explains the meaning of the terms used in the text, but also labours to remove the doubts and difficulties of sinners and backsliders in their approach to christ. this work could be said to have given rise indirectly to the modern missionary movement, since it strongly influenced andrew fuller, the first secretary of the pioneering baptist missionary society, and helped him to set his denomination free from the grip of hyper-calvinism. it is a christian classic that deserves a wide modern readership.

Reviews:
This is a book about pain, growth and change. It is told from five different perspectives, but each expression is one of raw honesty and complete transparency. The Evans family vulnerably share the ups and downs of their journey as each of them individually came from a place of heart break to humble surrender. They share their experiences not with regret, or to rebuke the reader for feeling the same… but rather in a way that allows the reader permission to feel the human emotions that come with loss and pain, encouraging a perspective of hope that draws us closer to God, allowing us to experience His grace, healing power, and abundant love in a more tangible way. It's a free flowing dialogue of hope and trust in a sovereign God who's ways don't always make sense to us, and an encouragement of intentional growth in our relationship with God by increasing, trust, time and intimacy with Him. The words Dr Tony Evans uses when sharing about the great reset is directed to the nation of the United States of America… but his wisdom and advice applies to people in every nation all over the world. The Evans, Hurst and Shirer families demonstrate through these pages how it is possible to adjust to a new normal after deep loss and grief through the healing power and hope that is in Christ. It is the epitome of Romans 8:28. I ended this book the same way I started… in tears. But unlike the tears shed in the beginning chapters, tears of grief from their deep heartbreak and loss, the tears at the end were ones of wonder. Wonder at a God who can take seasons of brokenness and make them testimonies of healing and strength. A real life, modern day demonstration that the struggle was part of the process, and the process was necessary for progress. Divine Disruption is a book that will change peoples lives all over the world. If you have ever experienced any kind of disappointment, loss or grief, or know anyone who has, I would highly recommend this book for you.Abi G
This book was an amazing read. It was wonderful to be able to see how each of the members of the Evans family responded to their losses. I was able to see myself in each of their experiences throughout different times in my life when God didn't respond exactly as I would have wanted Him to. It reinforced so much for me that despite my prayers not being answered in the way I would have liked or even Preferred, God was, is, and continues to be a good God. I highly recommend this book. It will restore your faith, lift you up, and encourage you all along the way.LCPeralta
Divine Disruption: Holding on to Faith When Life Breaks Your Heart provides a rare and intimate glimpse inside Tony Evans and his family after enduring an extended season of great trial and loss. In a two year period Tony and his family endured the loss of eight family members including his brother, sister, brother-in-law, niece, father and precious wife, Lois, of fifty years. It was also during this time his daughter, Priscilla Shirer, underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in her lung. Then, his other daughter, Crystal, was worked up for a suspicious growth on her leg. All of this was followed by the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown giving Tony and his family much time to pray, reflect upon and grieve their tremendous losses. In this book you will hear from Tony and each of his three adult children, who are all involved in ministry, as they all openly discuss their struggles, disappointments and the role their faith played as they continue to work through and process their grief by leaning into God and onto one another. I so appreciated their honesty and transparency as each shared their thoughts and feelings as to the hope they were able to hold onto even in the darkest and most difficult times. This book is a must read for those grieving the loss of a loved one.LDanko

17. When Jesus Became God: The Struggle To Define Christianity During The Last Days Of Rome [Book]

Product Details:
"a splendidly dramatic story… the fervent debate, civil strife, and bloody riots as christianity was coming into being, however, is a side of ancient history rarely described. rubenstein takes the reader to the streets of fourth-century rome, when a fateful debate over the divinity of jesus christ is being fought. ruled by a christian emperor, followers of jesus no longer fear for the survival of their monotheistic faith. but soon they break into two camps regarding the direction of their worship: is jesus the son of god and therefore not the same as god? or is jesus precisely god on earth and therefore equal to him? with thorough historical, religious, and social research, rubenstein vividly recreates one of the most critical moments in the history of religion.
Reviews:
This is a facinating and well documented historical account of the trials, conflict and survival of Christianity in the first four centruries after the ressurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The title would be more accurate if it were "when Jesus was accepted as God," or "When true Chistianity was defined and all heresy rejected." The current title implies that it was an action of one man – Emperor Constantine – as some today beleive, to "declare" Jesus is God. However, the book makes it relativley clear that the diciples, the apostles and the believers who walked with Jesus Christ believed Him to be God although the pendelum of belief swung back and fourth in the battle between Athanasius and his followers and Arius and his followers. The battle to repel the supporters of the archetypical Arian heresy raged with each new Cesar that followed in the East and the West or assention of a new Roman emporer and is well documented. With Constantine's Coucnil of Nicea Jesus was recognized as God in the flesh and it was first put into written words.. Subsequent councils in the period stated He as fully God and fully man. However, it was not until the time of Theodosius (389)that Arianism was officially and finally banned. The movement begun by Constantine had come full circle after much Christian turmoil and Christianity as we know it today – defined God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) – was declared the official religeon of the Roman empire. All else was declared and remains hertical.dldallas
It is a terrific book exposing where the idea of a trinity came from. If you believe in the trinity or need it to show somebody why it is false you must buy a copy. A review is given by Barbara Buzzard. I quote her summary "In When Jesus Became God, Richard Rubenstein writes well on a very volatile subject. His calm and rather unbiased perspective sheds light on the dark days in which was born what is now regarded as Christian orthodoxy regarding Jesus Christ. Rubenstein helps his readers better understand how a multi-person view of God would eventually triumph over the earlier monolithic view of the One God of the Bible." Barbara BuzzardAl
