1. Evolution 2.0: Breaking The Deadlock Between Darwin And Design [Book]
Product Details:
In the ongoing debate about evolution, science and faith face off. but the truth is both sides are right and wrong. – in one corner: atheists like richard dawkins, daniel dennett, and jerry coyne. they insist evolution happens by blind random accident. their devout adherence to neo-darwinism omits the latest science, glossing over crucial questions and fascinating details. – in the other corner: intelligent design advocates like william dembski, stephen meyer, and michael behe. many defy scientific consensus, maintaining that evolution is a fraud and rejecting common ancestry outright. – there is a third way. evolution 2.0 proves that, while evolution is not a hoax, neither is it random nor accidental. changes are targeted, adaptive, and aware. you'll discover:how organisms re-engineer their genetic destiny in real time – amazing systems living things use to re-design themselves – every cell is armed with machinery for editing its own dnathe five amazing tools organisms use to alter their genetics70 years of scientific discoveries—of which the public has heard virtually nothing! perry marshall approached evolution with skepticism for religious reasons. as an engineer, he rejected the concept of organisms randomly evolving. but an epiphany—that dna is code, much like data in our digital age—sparked a 10-year journey of in-depth research into more than 70 years of under-reported evolutionary science. this led to a new understanding of evolution—an evolution 2.0 that not only furthers technology and medicine, but fuels our sense of wonder at life itself. – this book will open your eyes and transform your thinking about evolution and god. you'll gain a deeper appreciation for our place in the universe. you'll see the world around you as you've never seen it before.

2. The Edge Of Evolution: The Search For The Limits Of Darwinism [Book]
Product Details:
Behe's first book, darwin's black box, was published in 1996, it launched the intelligent design movement. critics howled, yet hundreds of thousands of readers — and a growing number of scientists — were intrigued by behe's claim that darwinism could not explain the complex machinery of the cell. now, in his long-awaited follow-up, behe presents far more than a challenge to darwinism: he presents the evidence of the genetics revolution — the first direct evidence of nature's mutational pathways — to radically redefine the debate about darwinism. how much of life does darwin's theory explain? most scientists believe it accounts for everything from the machinery of the cell to the history of life on earth. darwin's ideas have been applied to law, culture, and politics. but darwin's theory has been proven only in one sense: there is little question that all species on earth descended from a common ancestor. overwhelming anatomical, genetic, and fossil evidence exists for that claim. but the crucial question remains: how did it happen? darwin's proposed mechanism — random mutation and natural selection — has been accepted largely as a matter of faith and deduction or, at best, circumstantial evidence. only now, thanks to genetics, does science allow us to seek direct evidence. the genomes of many organisms have been sequenced, and the machinery of the cell has been analyzed in great detail. the evolutionary responses of microorganisms to antibiotics and humans to parasitic infections have been traced over tens of thousands of generations. as a result, for the first time in history darwin's theory can be rigorously evaluated. the results are shocking. although it can explain marginal changes in evolutionary history, random mutation and natural selection explain very little of the basic machinery of life. the "edge" of evolution, a line that defines the border between random and nonrandom mutation, lies very far from where darwin pointed. behe argues convincingly that most of the mutations that have defined the history of life on earth have been nonrandom. although it will be controversial and stunning, this finding actually fits a general pattern discovered by other branches of science in recent decades: the universe as a whole was fine-tuned for life. from physics to cosmology to chemistry to biology, life on earth stands revealed as depending upon an endless series of unlikely events. the clear conclusion: the universe was designed for life.
Reviews:
Behe makes a compelling case that there is a significant limit to certain aspects of Darwinian evolution (random mutation plus natural selection). The argument is compelling because he bases it on multiple, well-studied mutations that have been observed in humans and malaria. Every year a million humans die from malaria, so this topic is highly studied. It is also clear that random mutations are good at destroying information, but terrible at creating useful information. Behe also describes the complex cellular machinery that is needed to support life and the genetic information in the DNA. Information without an appropriate mechanism to process or actualize it is meaningless. For example, a book written in English is meaningless without someone to read, process or make use of the information contained in the book. Finally, Behe argues that the universe has been finely tuned to support life. Change almost any physical constant or law by a small percentage and life would not be possible. This argument did not seem as compelling as the first, but it lends support to his thesis that life and the universe are not random processes, but they are carefully designed by an intelligent designer. Unfortunately, the origin of things (life and the universe) represent unique, historical events that cannot be experimentally repeated in a laboratory and therefore are not within the domain of observational/experimental science. In actuality, any scientific-historical model of origins (evolution or creation) cannot be proven by repeatable, scientific experiment. Historical evidence and present day experiments may lend support to one model or the other, but without a time machine, some degree of faith is required to believe in either model (evolution or creation). Given the compelling case that Behe makes for the inadequacy of Darwinian evolution to explain big "evolutionary" changes, I think it takes more faith to believe in evolution than creation.goldroca
Book is in great shape. An eye opener for those who think evolution is a slam dunk . A micro – biologist explains irreducible complexity. How things work are not all that we think.goaliecarl
Great book! Behe gives solid SCIENTIFIC criticism of Darwinian evolution. His book is one of the few that I have read that has been able to do that.charity3330
3. Human By Design: From Evolution By Chance To Transformation By Choice [Book]
Product Details:
* * *in one of the great ironies of the modern world, the science that was expected to solve life's mysteries has done just the opposite. new discoveries have led to more unanswered questions, created deeper mysteries, and brought us to the brink of forbidden territory when it comes to explaining our origin and existence. these discoveries reveal the following facts: – fact 1. our origin–modern humans appeared suddenly on earth approximately 200,000 years ago, with the advanced brain, nervous system, and capabilities that set them apart from all other known forms of life already developed, rather than having developed slowly and gradually over a long periods of time.- fact 2. missing physical evidence–the relationships shown on the conventional tree of human evolution are speculative connections only. while they are believed to exist, a 150-year search has failed to produce the physical evidence that confirms the relationships shown on the evolutionary family tree.- fact 3. a rare dna fusion–advanced genome analysis reveals that the dna that sets us apart from other primates, including in our advanced brain and nervous system, is the result of an ancient and precise fusion of genes occurring in a way that suggests something beyond evolution made our humanness possible.- fact 5.

4. The Evolution Of Everything: How New Ideas Emerge [Book]
Product Details:
Drawing on anecdotes from science, economics, history, politics and philosophy, matt ridley’s wide-ranging, highly opinionated opus demolishes conventional assumptions that major scientific and social imperatives are dictated by those on high, whether in government, business, academia, or morality. on the contrary, our most important achievements develop from the bottom up. patterns emerge, trends evolve. the growth of technology, the sanitation-driven health revolution, the quadrupling of farm yields so that more land can be released for nature—these were largely emergent phenomena, as were the internet, the mobile phone revolution, and the rise of asia.

When I picked up this book I was surprised in 2015 this book was in black in white. The paper quality of the book is rather poor aswell. I wouldnt recommend this book, unless the author made the book more appealing.Shaun

6. Endless Forms Most Beautiful: The New Science Of Evo Devo And The Making Of The Animal Kingdom [Book]
Product Details:
Evo devo is evolutionary developmental biology, the third revolution in evolutionary biology. the first was marked by the publication of the origin of species. the second occurred in the early twentieth century, when darwin's theories were merged with the study of genetics. now the insights of evo devo are astonishing the biology world by showing how the endless forms of animals–butterflies and zebras, trilobites and dinosaurs, apes and humans, are made and evolved. perhaps the most surprising finding of evo devo is the discovery that a small number of primitive genes led to the formation of fundamental organs and appendages in all animal forms. the gene that causes humans to form arms and legs is the same gene that causes birds and insects to form wings, and fish to form fins; similarly, one ancient gene has led to the creation of eyes across the animal kingdom. changes in the way this ancient tool kit of genes is used have created all the diversity that surrounds us. sean carroll is the ideal author to lead the curious on this intellectual adventure–he is the acknowledged leader of the field, and his seminal discoveries have been featured in time and the new york times.

Fantastic read, a must for any science enthusiast or science studentRob
Once again Sean Carroll has put together complex evolutionary development biology into everyday terms for the everyday non scientific mind. His writing makes it so easy to digest this complex bundle of new scientific discovery. This work is magnificent. He covers the topic of tool kit genes, and natures work on the endless forms of the small creatures to the patterns on butterflys, zebras, the big cats etc. His chapter on the hominids and hominins should be read by all. He answers all the questions on the evolution of homo sapiens. I think he is the ideal author to write on the complex subject of how our few primitive genes have evolved to create the complex forms of wings, feathers, fur and colour etc in all animal forms. Highly recommended for everyday reading.

Reviews:
This book is not a a presentation of a religious bias as some claim. However it does seriously question the theory of evolution. Though it is inevitably biased towards the author's opinion, it sticks very closely to facts and scientific analysis. Most of the material is based on interviews of evolutionary scientists performed exclusively for this book. IF YOU HAVE ANY INTEREST IN THE EVOLUTION OF WHALES OR BIRDS OR DINOSAURS this book has some ASTOUNDING information about current theories that you will find almost nowhere else. If you wonder why anyone questions evolution this book will give you a good insight into source of their doubt.newsw.newsw
I used this series for my high school student, who gets bored easily and needs engaging material. The "Evolution: The Grand Experiment" has been a GREAT study for us and kept my student interested and actually learning. It takes a very scientific and factual approach to the material and encourages the reader to use common sense and thinking skills instead of just swallowing information. The full-color images, charts, and call-out boxes break up the reading so it isn't monotonous. It's enough material for 1 semester, and I definitely encourage getting the coordinating Teacher's Manual, as that has the questions, quizzes, and answer keys related to this book. For anyone who wants to do a complete year of science, we found that getting both this book and the next volume (Living Fossils) has worked well to fill the year with a challenging but not overwhelming schedule.VANESSA
9. The Complete World Of Human Evolution: Second Edition [Book]
Product Details:
Human domination of the earth is now so complete that it is easy to forget how recently our role in the history of the planet began.the earliest apes evolved around twenty million years ago, yet homo sapiens has existed for a mere 160,000 years. in the intervening period, dozens of species of early ape and human have lived and died out, leaving behind the fossilized remains that have helped to make the detailed picture of our evolution revealed here. since this book was first published in 2005 there have been exciting new developments in the story of ape and human evolution, and the authors take account of them in this revised edition. the big gap in the fossil record in africa is beginning to be filled with the discovery of several new species of apes in kenya and ethiopia that date from ten to nine million years ago. there are new discoveries of australopithecus, updates on the dating of hominin sites, results of new dna analyses, and much more. illustrated with photographs, diagrams, and reconstruction drawings, this is essential reading for anyone interested in human origins.

10. Darwin's Doubt: The Explosive Origin Of Animal Life And The Case For Intelligent Design [Book]
Product Details:
When charles darwin finished the origin of species, he thought that he had explained every clue, but one. though his theory could explain many facts, darwin knew that there was a significant event in the history of life that his theory did not explain. during this event, the “cambrian explosion,” many animals suddenly appeared in the fossil record without apparent ancestors in earlier layers of rock. meyer tells the story of the mystery surrounding this explosion of animal life—a mystery that has intensified, not only because the expected ancestors of these animals have not been found, but because scientists have learned more about what it takes to construct an animal. during the last half century, biologists have come to appreciate the central importance of biological information—stored in dna and elsewhere in cells—to building animal forms.expanding on the compelling case he presented in his last book, signature in the cell, meyer argues that the origin of this information, as well as other mysterious features of the cambrian event, are best explained by intelligent design, rather than purely undirected evolutionary processes.
Reviews:
I would recommend reading Signature In The Cell first, though it is not essential. I read Darwin's Doubt first a year ago, then Signature recently and am halfway through Darwin's Doubt a 2nd time. These are not easy reads. These are not religious books. They are science books and explore the real science about whether there was sufficient time & opportunity for our animal biology to have evolved by random mutation and natural selection. This is not the writing of an anti-science creationist. This book and Signature are serious & thoughtful & exhaustively detailed treatises examining the evidence of this question. The footnotes are contained in the back with the index and provide even greater detail, dealing with cutting edge cell biology, paleontology, statistics, and probabilities. The mainstream press would have you think that Darwinian evolution is a settled matter, but it has has its doubters beginning with Darwin himself. The realization that Neo-Darwinism is not the answer is gradually gaining ground and these two books are important reading, especially for scientists, whether or not you agree with the author's conclusions.elixir172n28
As a biology-degreed physician and after reading only the first 6 chapters I couldn't wait any longer to post an opinion. I read Dr. Meyer's cogent *Signature in the Cell* and couldn't wait to read this work. Simply put in my opinion there is hardly another contender for a thinker that knows more about the state of evolutionary science as a whole than Dr. Meyer. His training with a Ph.D. in the history and philosophy of science masterfully allows him to gather the entirety of the issues in a comprehensive and systematic way and to dissect down to the kernel of the issues at hand and expose the pathology in such a manner that is simply an embarrassment to those especially of the New Atheists ilk. Here there is no wasted prose that serves as *ad hominem* or melodramatic histrionics rather development of thought and argument with supporting evidence that is truly satisfying to read as if finally breathing fresh air. Though some ignorant scientists have declared philosophy useless and dead Dr. Meyer demonstrates the force of what disciplined thinking can bring to the argument when *a priori* limitations are removed and thinking is liberated to be honestly critical and facts are made to stand not on assumptions but on evidence. I highly recommend both DD and the earlier SitC to any interested in the debate around evolution and any going into the sciences whether pure or applied. There is no mention here of God or argument based upon religion (much to the dismay of many vocal atheists); this is a work on and of science – don't believe anyone that tells you otherwise. Though I can't imagine what could serve as a next subject I think another tome to complete a trilogy would be enviable!musical-md
I give this book five stars for establishing a milestone in the scientific literature on the origin and evolution of life. While it repeats some of the material in Meyer's previous books this new work is more up to date and comprehensive with respect to the variety of scientific issues. Much attention is given to the fossil evidence that is inconsistent with neo-Darwinism but Meyer also covers the main arguments involving information theory probability theory biochemistry irreducible complexity and other tools and disciplines. The arguments are backed up by hundreds of citations of scientific publications. The text focuses entirely on the scientific issues and avoids personal attacks on pro-Darwin authors despite the voluminous ad hominem screeds from the other side. Indeed the professional tone throughout Darwin's Doubt stands in telling contrast to the caustic language of the increasingly defensive Darwinists. Meyer's approach in this book as well as in "Signature" and "Explore Evolution " includes thorough treatments of the most common explications that attempt to support Darwin. For example he reviews in detail the concept of the "animal tree of life" as a model for the common-descent and speciation ideas fostered by Darwin's theory. Citing a number of published examples of the tree model he shows that they are inconsistent conflicting and flawed to the point that the model fails to hold up. The book makes a strong case against the basic neo-Darwinian theory of evolution and presents a persuasive argument that some mechanism involving purposeful design must be at work. The source of the required intelligence is a great question that remains unanswered which is an intriguing and profound challenge for science. Indeed I think that the discovery of the design function will merit a Nobel Prize. In effect Meyer is calling for a new theory of evolution one that takes into account the evidence for a design function. Other authors who are making the same or similar appeals for research include Michael Denton Michael Behe William Dembski Jonathan Wells Donald E. Johnson and Douglas Axe. Meyer has produced a compendium of the research data and viewpoints of these scholars and dozens more organized into a well documented and soundly reasoned case. Any serious student of evolution whether pro-Darwin skeptical or undecided would be well advised to study this book.

Reviews:
I bought 3 copies of this book, one for grandchildren aged 6 & 8 in Shropshire, one for my granddaughter in Lincoln who is also 8 years old and one for me. I was a biology teacher and I have been teaching my grandchildren biology twice a week throughout lock down. They wanted me to teach them about Evolution so I bought these books and we read them together over Zoom. They love the book and keep rereading it. It explains evolution in a fun but accurate way and the illustrations are brilliant. I have already recommended it to others to buy.gri.fova.rrpfad

12. The Evolution Of Charles Darwin: The Epic Voyage Of The Beagle That Forever Changed Our View Of Life On Earth [Book]
Product Details:
From the los angeles times book prize-winning historian, the colorful, dramatic story of charles darwin's journey on hms beagle that inspired the evolutionary theories in his path-breaking books on the origin of species and the descent of man – when twenty-two-year-old aspiring geologist charles darwin boarded hms beagle in 1831 with his microscopes and specimen bottles–invited by ship's captain robert fitz – roy who wanted a travel companion at least as much as a ship's naturalist–he hardly thought he was embarking on what would become perhaps the most important and epoch-changing voyage in scientific history. nonetheless, over the course of the five-year journey around the globe in often hard and hazardous conditions, darwin would make observations and gather samples that would form the basis of his revolutionary theories about the origin of species and natural selection. – drawing on a rich range of revealing letters, diary entries, recollections of those who encountered him, and darwin's and fitz – roy's own accounts of what transpired, diana preston chronicles the epic voyage as it unfolded, tracing darwin's growth from untested young man to accomplished adventurer and natural scientist in his own right. from the wilds of patagonia to the galápagos and other atlantic and pacific islands, as preston vibrantly relates, darwin collected and contrasted volcanic rocks and fossils large and small, witnessed an earthquake, and encountered the argentinian rhea, falklands fox, and galápagos finch, through which he began to discern connections between deep past and present. – darwin never left britain again after his return in 1836, though his mind journeyed far and wide to develop the theories that were first revealed, after great delay and with trepidation about their reception, in 1859 with the publication of his epochal book on the origin of species. offering a unique portrait of one of history's most consequential figures, the evolution of charles darwin is a vital contribution to our understanding of life on earth.
13. This View Of Life: Completing The Darwinian Revolution [Book]
Product Details:
It is widely understood that charles darwin's theory of evolution completely revolutionized the study of biology. yet, according to david sloan wilson, the darwinian revolution won't be truly complete until it is applied more broadly–to everything associated with the words "human," "culture," and "policy." in a series of engaging and insightful examples–from the breeding of hens to the timing of cataract surgeries to the organization of an automobile plant–wilson shows how an evolutionary worldview provides a practical tool kit for understanding not only genetic evolution but also the fast-paced changes that are having an impact on our world and ourselves.
14. Evolution Impossible: 12 Reasons Why Evolution Cannot Explain The Origin Of Life On Earth [Book]
Product Details:
There is scientific evidence proving evolution cannot be responsible for life on earth. it is time to question what biology text books and nature documentaries claim about our origins. even darwin admitted, “i threw out queries, suggestions, wondering all the time over everything; and to my astonishment the ideas took like wildfire. people made a religion of them.” john ashton has dedicated 40+ years to teaching and researching science, and exposing the lack of proven evidence for darwin's theories. in evolution impossible, he uses discoveries in genetics, biochemistry, geology, radiometric dating, and other scientific disciplines to explain why the theory of evolution is a myth. discover for yourself: – why the fossil record is evidence of extinction, not evolution – how erosion and sedimentation dates conflict with radiometric dating – how the lack of transitional fossils undermines evolutionary notions – why living cells and new organisms do not rise by chance or random mutations regardless of your level of scientific education, you will finish this book able to cite 12 reasons why evolution cannot explain the origin of life.

Great book to share with anyone asking why do you believe in Creation instead of evolution.carolyn1219
I read this book side by side with a book that was meant to back up the evolutionist view. Evolution Impossible lays out specific reasons using scientific processes to explain why evolution is in fact "Impossible." This other book (The Language of God) just kept saying how incredibly obvious evolution is and never gave any good reasons as to why. If you're tired of reading scientists who simply insist how obvious it is that their stance is correct, and that any thinking person knows evolution is a fact, this is the book for you. If you think that evolution has been proven through biology, DNA, fossils, or astronomy, you're in for a surprise. Maybe life isn't meaningless after all!pun7

We used the "Evolution: The Grand Experiment Teacher's Manual" in conjunction with the student text book. This manual contains all the lesson questions/objectives, quizzes, section tests, and answer keys for all the quizzes. It does NOT have the "answers" for the lesson objectives, but I didn’t find that to be a problem. I liked that there's some flexibility with the book: it can be used to either let the student work independently OR you can use the objectives, etc, in more teacher-involved lessons. Great series. My ONLY issue with the Teacher's Manual was that I was sent the previous edition, which was different than the text edition, so things like page numbers were off; that was a little frustrating but not a huge deal.VANESSA
This workbook is for use with the textbook. Most teachers manuals include the textbook surrounded by comments and answers but this is more guided towards review or discussion. You will need to purchase the textbook separately. I am a public school teacher and I could not really use the worksheets in my Biology class. I will use soe of the facts in my dialogue.handyguy1880

19. Evolution: A View From The 21st Century. Fortified. [Book]
Product Details:
It is time for a new theory of evolution based on genomics, not guesses in 2011, james a. shapiro's evolution: a view from the 21st century proposed a revolutionary paradigm for understanding biological evolution: natural genetic engineering, not random accidents, produce genome change. in the 21st-century view, organisms are active participants in the evolutionary process. since then, climate change and multiple crises in infectious disease have given new urgency to understanding evolution. in this expanded 2nd edition, shapiro shares new evidence that living cells re-engineer their genomes in response to environmental challenges and disruptions to cellular reproduction. from the classroom to the laboratory, conventional wisdom still paints evolution as the passive result of mutational accidents and natural selection. a modern vision of evolution recognizes that all living beings, from the simplest organisms to humans, actively modify their read-write (rw) genomes as they evolve. in an unpredictable world, the ability to evolve actively is essential to survival. today, understanding evolution is equally critical to our shared future. read this book to learn: how interactions with other species, cells, and viruses shape an organism's evolution how better understanding evolution can help protect our health, food supply, and planet how to apply lessons from molecular genetics and genomics wisely to benefit society written for both general and academic readers, the 2nd edition includes: discussions of the latest thinking on evolutionary processes published scientific papers sharing key research from the past decadethe full text of the 2011 edition with appendices
