Macro Photography by Don Komarechka was a disappointment to me it spent way too much time on snowflakes and was very convoluted. It seemed to me more of an ego trip and self-testament to his own macro adventure and not enough practical advice for a broad-based audience. In my mind there are a small percentage of photographers' who have the environment or desire to pursue the frozen tundra of macro photography.Alfred
Don K does unbelievable work with a macro setup. It's not just bugs and flowers although there is some of that but done with a fresh take. For example what does that flower look like irradiated with UV. Can I take a macro insect picture with refracted flowers in water droplets. If there is one take away from this book is to approach any picture with a new set of eyes to get a fresh perspective. Don shares the secret sauce and the book also serves as a instruction book on macro. A very worthwhile book.Don
The book has the right mix of technical information (such as an explanation why f/4 is not f/4 at a 1:1 magnification) and instructions on taking macro photographs. Easy read, excellent photographs. I would prefer to see more diagrams on staging photographs, but the text is clear enough. If you think the book is expensive think how much it would cost you to take a one hour lesson from Don. I have heard Don on the TWIP podcast and am glad he published the book.Ilia
