I've lost 9 pounds my first week. I'm already a thin person, but this book really helps to lose that last little bit your body refuses to give up without a fight. The food is good and delicious. The portions are just right, and you eat throughout the day. Don't forget the excercise. This book is written really well. I really liked the book. It was really easy to follow and gave me many options on what to eat throughout the 6 weeks. The Course in Miracles is a transformative spiritual journey which takes a year to complete. It is about transcending the ego and this world. The author in this book is trying to give readers a shortcut to weight loss using principles from The Course in Miracles, without you having to relinquish this world, but I don't know if it works that way. This is a really different 'diet' book in that it has 4 stages to it. The first to start your weight loss, the second to continue and get to your goal, the third to settle down to your new weight and the fourth is a management plan for the rest of your life…. safe in the knowledge that you can always do a week of the first part again if you've put on a few too many pounds. I can't speak of my success yet as I've only done 2 days, but my mother in law has lost nearly 2 stone in less than 2 months so that's good going, I'd be happy with that. In essence this diet advises you to eat until you are full but to eat a high protein diet and there is a list of permitted foods – what surprised me was that you can have onions!! which are quite high in natural sugars. So whilst the diet starts a bit like atkins it seems much healthier and I think it could successfully be followed for a longer time, and without health complications. The book is nicely written and easy to read, it could also help keep you on track in those first few days. It clearly explains how the body works and reacts to differennt foods and discusses how much weight you could expect to lose and when – which is great for motivation. The only thing I don't like about the book are the suggested menus, to me they are awful but to others great I am sure. I am not much of a fish lover so this is part of the problem. If you want to lose weight, with a quick start and eat REAL food then this could be the one for you. In 2 days I am down 3lbs but of course much of this would be water weight. I am amazed!! My mother is over 60, my husband and I are over 40. We decided to do this diet because my mother had to lose some weight and my husband and I thought it would be great to lose a few pounds. I have been on this diet going on week #3 now…The first week during the "Fat Burning" phase I lost 8 pounds. Which I thought was pretty phenomenal! However after the first week the weight loss really really slows down. I am on week 3 and I am still bouncing between 10-11 pounds of weight loss. It is not that bad to follow after you get used to the change in your eating habits. I didn't know if I would make it because I am used to eating lunch out with my friends everyday and driving through a fast food place, ordering pizza or eating out again with my kiddos at night. So it has been a big adjustment for me. I have to say it has really taught me to read the labels of the food I am now buying at the grocery and I am a lot more conscious of eating healthy. I ate out with a friend the other night at Outback & I had a steak(not ribeye…which is my favorite but a No No on this diet) & grilled shrimp. This was 100% legal….So I was very proud of myself. I could've had the salad but wasn't really hungry for it. So this diet has curbed my appetite somewhat. I am able to follow the diet & not feel starved. However…I eat a lot of fat free vanilla frozen yogurt now…LOL…this stuff has been my saving grace <3 The weight is coming off…but it is coming off slowly. I know that is supposed to be a good thing, but like everyone else…I like instant results…So that is a downfall. I think I could stay more motivated if I saw a faster weight loss like I saw the very first week. I have been a member of a Masters Swimming club for over 30 years. I regularly enter competitions and do fairly well especially in short distance sprints. This book helped me to understand why I am good at short distance but my longer distance times are not what they used to be. It's all about breathing and I wish I had this information 20 years ago. I recommend this book to any sports person to improve their fitness and increase aerobic capacity and endurance. Read the book, followed the extreme version-800 cals. a day, been on it just under 3 weeks, lost 7kg. How happy am I! Recipes in the book are easy to make, have no special ingredients and are delicious with decent servings that sustain you till the next meal. But apart from all this I feel great because I am only eating at meal times, no snacking in between and eating only real food. After the initial withdrawals of not constantly sticking food in my mouth it's reasonably easy. I realised then I was eating, eating, eating out of habit and not because I needed it.
