1. Mere Christianity By C. S Lewis

Product Details:
In 1941 england, when all hope was threatened by the inhumanity of war, c. s. lewis was invited to give a series of radio lectures addressing the central issues of christianity. more than half a century later, these talks continue to retain their poignancy. first heard as informal radio broadcasts on the bbc, the lectures were published as three books and subsequently combined as "mere christianity." c. s. lewis proves that "at the center of each there is something, or a someone, who against all divergences of belief, all differences of temperament, all memories of mutual persecution, speaks with the same voice," rejecting the boundaries that divide christianity's many denominations. this twentieth century masterpiece provides an unequaled opportunity for believers and nonbelievers alike to hear a powerful, rational case for the christian faith. with a new foreword by lewis's stepson, douglas gresham, this illustrated gift edition evokes the historic time and place of the book's creation.
Reviews:
I love reading books cover to cover, so I always read the forward and intro’s. So worth it and helpful to understanding Lewis’ context and where the book is coming from. He’s been my favorite author since I was a kid yet I hadn’t gotten around to reading all of his titles. So this is helping me on my way. Format is lovely, the pages alternate in width in a nice pattern that’s comfortable for my fingers to skim through, the font size is easy to read and it reads like a bit of a conversation (which was the intent, being transcribed from a radio broadcast series).Cass M.
How many of us are prepared to answer the hard questions of life? So many times when people ask difficult questions about Christianity and the way Christians see the world we are not ready to give an answer This classic book by CS Lewis can help remedy that issue Although the book was written way back in the 1940's the contents are timeless After all the condition of man has changed little over the centuries We still wrestle with the same issues and questions that men have struggled with through the agesIs there a God? Why should we believe in Him? If he is so good why does he allow so much bad in our world? Is Jesus really the Son of God? Why did Jesus have to Die? All these hard questions are answered in Mere Christianity Not only are the answers there they are remarkably easy to understand given the weightiness of the topics These topics were originally a series of BBC discussions; later in life CS Lewis added to them and published them in book form However he attempted to keep the informal tone to his works to keep them as down to earth and understandable to as many people as possible It is my opinion that he succeeded This would be a great resource for older teens and young adults going away to college In the society in which we now live where the basic tenets of Christianity are under continual attack it is essential that young and old alike be well grounded in the faith Many times Christians may have great faith but lack the ability to explain it to others This book by CS Lewis will help with that While this paperback may be inexpensive the contents are quite valuable
Clive Lewis is an amazing layman Christian. If you are already a Christian you will find insight and understanding for living the life and walking the walk. If you are a seeker and not yet surrendered you will find encouragement for your journey. In this book he presents the argument for the golden rule of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. It is not "In your face, repent or suffer." He presents the Christian walk with common sense and day to day living. I love this guy.navion01

3. Letter To The American Church [Book]

Product Details:
In an earnest and searing wake-up call, the author of the bestseller bonhoeffer: pastor, martyr, prophet, spy warns of the haunting similarities between today’s american church and the german church of the 1930s. echoing bonhoeffer’s prophetic call, eric metaxas exhorts his fellow christians to repent of their silence in the face of evil before it is too late.“ silence in the face of evil is itself evil. not to speak is to speak. not to act is to act. god will not hold us guiltless.” can it really be god’s will that his children be silent at a time like this? decrying the cowardice that masquerades as godly meekness, eric metaxas summons the church to battle. the author of a bestselling biography of dietrich bonhoeffer, metaxas reveals the haunting similarities between today’s american church and the german church of the 1930s. echoing the german martyr’s prophetic call, he exhorts his fellow christians to repent of their silence in the face of evil. an attenuated and unbiblical “faith” based on what bonhoeffer called “cheap grace” has sapped the spiritual vitality of millions of americans. paying lip service to an insipid “evangelism,” they shrink from combating the evils of our time. metaxas refutes the pernicious lie that fighting evil politicizes christianity. as bonhoeffer and other heroes of the faith insisted, the church has an irreplaceable role in the culture of a nation. it is our duty to fight the powers of darkness, especially on behalf of the weak and vulnerable. silence is not an option. god calls us to defend the unborn, to confront the lies of cultural marxism, and to battle the globalist tyranny that crushes human freedom. confident that this is his fight, the church must overcome fear and enter the fray, armed with the spiritual weapons of prayer, self-sacrifice, and love.
Reviews:
Letter to the American Church is a clarion call to all christians and fellow citizens. Share this book with friends and church members and discuss ways to put your faith in action. Christian and civic values are cannot be separated. We must engage and challenge the secular forces that threaten our republic.Lady Godiva
Eric Metaxas brings the voice of Bonhoeffer to not only the American Church, but also to many western nations facing increasing loss of freedoms, religious persecution, and dangerous trends similar to what Germany saw in the 1930's. In just the first chapter, Metaxas wastes no time in getting to the pith of the matter, with his characteristic wit, profundity, and clear writing. He compels his readers to examine the "hosts of reasons—and excuses" for the attitudes and behaviors of American Christian leaders today that mimic those of German pastors of the 1930's, and makes chilling comparisons between the two, invoking a sense of urgency and extending an invitation to action. In citing the words and works of William Wilberforce, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, as well as the Dutch theologian and statesman Abraham Kuyper, Metaxas issues a clarion call and prophetic warning to the American Church of the 21st century. With compelling (and telling) chapters such as "The Spiral of Silence," "the Church Paralyzed," and "Be Ye Not Political" (to mention a few), Letter to the American Church challenges the readers to learn from the past, and prepare for the future before it is too late. As Metaxas says, "… let's face it: what God usually asks of His people is that they actually live out their faith in all the spheres of their lives so that all of society is blessed. And when they fail to do this, they are failing to be the Church." Just read the book. It's essential for pastors and leaders, but also for any Christian who wants to be like the "Sons of Issachar – men who know how to interpret the signs of the times to determine what Israel should do." I Chronicles 12:23 (TLV). This book is a both a wake-up call and call to action for 21st century "Sons and Daughters of Issachar" who need the wisdom of Bonhoeffer's warnings made alive today that we might discern the signs of the times and not just "stay above the fray," but lead the charge into it.Babsruth

This is one of the best books ever written. Chambers was a true prophet of God. Like the Bible, the truths written in the text are ageless. The book expands on many of the scriptures of the Bible to the deeper spiritual levels. This would not be a book for new Christians, but for Christians who have walked with God for a while and are seeking to become one with Him. If you are serious about making a full commitment to God, this is the book for you.ralphandbeau2011
It can be a great QT book for people who can only spare 5 minutes a day. Though it is a short page read, it is quite profound in a simple kind of way. For a new believer, I think this book will help him/her understand the "relationship" factor between the reader and the Christ. For the seasoned believer who may have lost their way because of doctrine and therefore, it has caused an heartache, this book can help you feel Jesus the way you first met Him.ablelife
This book gets you closer to God and helps you understand what a relationship with God truly is. Chambers was a man of God in a deep and profound way. Charles Stanley said that this book was one that had the greatest impact on his life after the Bible. Chambers makes you want the deep relationship he has with God, He inspires and motivates you to be a different person. When I first read this book years ago, I marked passages and had ? there. I didn't "get" those things, but I knew I wanted to. Over the years, I have read and reread this book and the ? go away and I am blessed.ibsmiley

Reviews:
I absolutely love Ruth Chou Simons newest book!! Beholding and Becoming is a work of art, overflowing with Ruth’s soulful, encouraging words and illustrations that capture your heart and soul. Her faith-filled wisdom, stunning artistry, quotes, and use of Biblical stories and verses blend together flawlessly to create a beautiful and engaging experience for the reader. The author bares her soul with honest vulnerability as she shares relatable everyday struggles and sheds the light of Jesus on them. The book is about becoming, and being transformed, by beholding Jesus, living life Christ-centered, and worshiping Him in the amazing and not so amazing details of our everyday lives. I find her lyrical writing to be convicting and soul-awakening. Ruth’s words had a profound effect on me-she opened the floodgates to my weary soul. She gently spoke life to the places in my soul that felt wilted and overgrown. God knew I needed to read the words written on the pages of this amazing book. This is one of my favorite quotes by Ruth Chou Simons in Chapter 13, God’s Mercy When Things Seem Unfair: “His grace causes us to see ourselves truthfully: undeserving of His relentless love and lavish generosity. His great mercy fills the cracks of our unbelief and-when received-allows little room for bitterness and discontentment to spring up.” What a powerful message! I was enthralled by her beautiful artwork, captivated by her writing, and blessed by the powerful truths she shares. Each page, each delicate flower, the colors, and placement within the chapters heightens the reader’s experience. The author’s passion and loving faith are evident in every detail. I will be reading Beholding and Becoming daily, to inspire and lift my spirits by lifting my gaze to God, to draw closer and glorify Him in my everyday details, and to remind me how much I am loved. I loved Beholding and Becoming and I believe everyone that reads it will feel the same. Ruth Chou Simons desire and passion to draw others closer to God, to live and breathe our faith day in and day out is apparent throughout her beautifully written and illustrated book. It’s a gift rich in truths that open your eyes and soul to Jesus’ lavish love. I feel so blessed by having experienced Beholding and Becoming.susam49
Beholding Becoming is a beautiful and encouraging book to read! I have Ruth's early books, and this one surely didn't disappoint! The watercolor illustrations are delightful, soothing, and easy on the eyes. Each section offers words of encouragement for the daily grind. There are no dramatic stories, no guilt smacking narratives, no "I have it all solved" declarations – just gentle words of understanding, relatability, and achievable, personal challenges to grow as individuals. I found myself laughing with Ruth and nodding my head with understanding as she related short stories of her own personal growth experiences. Devotional books that I have read or tried to read were impersonal, cliché filled, lacking depth and soul or left me closing the book feeling guilty or beyond hope of restoration or redemption in some areas. I found myself challenged to behold my Savior and scriptures unhurriedly, and to give myself more grace as I continue in my process of becoming. Consider this excerpt from the book: "God is the Creator; you are the created. God is great; you are not. Does that chafe or relieve you? How you answer that question determines who you are becoming. In our social-media-crazed culture, everyone can be a star. It's so seemingly within reach that smallness feels unacceptable. …It's impossible for someone to continually behold and be dazzled by personal power and greatness while attributing all greatness and glory to God. The two can't coexist in the same heart. We either become molded by our sense of self-promotion or shaped by our understanding of God's preeminence." Such a fresh perspective on humility. We hear the word "humility" so often that it is easy to gloss over. This is confronting, yet gentle and thought provoking. I heartily recommend this timeless book!Maylady
Beholding and Becoming online review As always, Ruth Chou Simons, artist and author behind GraceLaced, makes much of God while literally and figuratively painting a picture of our journey to becoming whom God made us to be. She partners beautiful artwork with refreshing words that are saturated with the truth of the gospel in the everyday. “How we go about doing the next thing has everything to do with what we believe about what we’ve been given to do and who gives the next breath in which to do it.” Through the examples of everyday scenarios, we are reminded that no moment is too ordinary to be used by God. He has placed you where you are with what work He would have you to do so that you may bring Him glory. Beholding and Becoming is an encouragement towards growth, not berating or judgmental. This is a great book for personal use, but would also make an excellent gift for the art lover and anyone desiring to strengthen their relationship with the Lord.Becca

This is a very good book, which I enjoyed immensely. Be Joyful is a 50 day devotional about joy from the writing of Paul the apostle. Even with being a Christian for many years, I still learned some things here. The devotionals are not very long, which makes this an easy read, but I still would recommend reading only one a day. Excellent devotional! I got a copy for myself and one for a friend, and 'Radiant' for my 15-yr old daughter. My friend stated that just reading the Introduction moved her to tears and was so powerful… I'm still in the process of reading this. So far it's on point of what God has been showing me in the past few years to heal me, but the authors do a far better job of articulating and referencing Bible Scripture than I couldCHERYL

thank you for my bookharjoh-9887
Excellent book! A book for people who want information that maybe they were not given growing up going to church. I had read part of the book a few years ago and was told it was out of print. Thank God for eBay! I have found a couple of hard to find books on here that are wonderful reading for people who want to make up thier own minds about religion and related topics. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is a free thinker and tired of being told what to believe and what not to believe. Not to sound preachy or anything but we were given free will, and by being told what is right to beieve and not to believe it is being taken away from us. This book will bring our choice of free will back to us and the right to question things that we are not sure about or do not want to follow blindly.ltngthndr212
As an atheist, it confirmed a lot of my suspicions about religion.robersmal96
18. Why We're Catholic: Our Reasons For Faith, Hope, And Love [Book]

Product Details:
How can you believe all this stuff? ever since he became catholic, trent horn has spent a lot of time answering these questions, trying to explain to friends, family, and total strangers the reasons for his faith — some didn't believe in god, or even in the existence of truth — others said they were spiritual but didn't think you needed religion to be happy– some were christians who thought catholic doctrines over-complicated the pure gospel. — and some were fellow catholics who had a hard time understanding everything they professed to believe on sunday.

19. Slave: The Hidden Truth About Your Identity In Christ [Book]

Product Details:
Best-selling author and pastor dr. john macarthur reveals one crucial word that revolutionizes what it means to follow jesus. throughout the bible, followers of jesus are commanded to submit to him as their king. they are told to obey and follow, faithfully and without hesitation. every time christians utter the word lord, they make a subtle yet profound declaration-that god is their master and that they belong to him. in fact, the bible describes believers as his slaves. they have been bought with a price and now live for christ as a people for his own possession. but go into most churches today, even flip through most bible translations, and you won't see or hear the word slave anywhere. that's because it has been lost in translation. in this gripping book, dr. john macarthur uses deep bible teaching and historical evaluation to expertly uncover the one forgotten word that restores the bible's definition of true christian freedom. what does it mean to be a christian the way jesus defined it? macarthur says it all boils down to one word: slave. endorsements:"dr. john macarthur is never afraid to tell the truth and in this book he does just that. the christian's great privilege is to be the slave of christ. dr. macarthur makes it clear that this is one of the bible's most succinct ways of describing our discipleship. this is a powerful exposition of scripture, a convincing corrective to shallow christianity, a masterful work of pastoral encouragement…a devotional classic." – dr. r. those who would be his children must, paradoxically, be willing to be his slaves." – dr. r.c. sproul"dr. john macarthur's teaching on 'slavery' resonates in the deepest recesses of my 'inner-man.' as an african-american pastor, i have been there. that is why the thought of someone writing about slavery as being a 'god-send' was the most ludicrous, unconscionable thing that i could have ever imagined…until i read this book. now i see that becoming a slave is a biblical command, completely redefining the idea of freedom in christ. i don't want to simply be a 'follower' or even just a 'servant'…but a 'slave'." – the rev. dr. dallas h. wilson, jr., vicar, st. john's episcopal chapel, charleston, sc

The book is HEAVILY written in!sophiwilco_7
Great book! John MacArthur is consistently putting out good books. He has written another. The only negative is his use of the conspiracy to hide the word slave from the translations. I think that may have been a little overboard. The rest of the book was solid with great ideas and great illustration from Scripture. It is something that we must contend for, but I choose not to be called a quake suggesting hundreds of years of coverups. I know he is trying to bolster his point by not sounding like he is changing the Bible but that they were, but he comes of sounding otherwise. He is not radical as he was thirty years ago but he sounds like the younger man in just this part and the seasoned Bible expositor in the rest.garytba01
It's a book being read in a group, and I wanted to make sure everyone had one. Great shape.easr
20. The Reason For God: Belief In An Age Of Skepticism [Book]

Product Details:
A new york times bestseller people can believe in–by a pioneer of the new urban christians (christian today magazine). – timothy keller, the founding pastor of redeemer presbyterian church in new york city, addresses the frequent doubts that skeptics and non-believers bring to religion. using literature, philosophy, anthropology, pop culture, and intellectual reasoning, keller explains how the belief in a christian god is, in fact, a sound and rational one. to true believers he offers a solid platform on which to stand against the backlash toward religion spawned by the age of skepticism. and to skeptics, atheists, and agnostics he provides a challenging argument for pursuing the reason for god.
Reviews:
Excellent book explaining why there has to be a God. Easy reading. Held my attention. Concepts were understandable.elsm8775
Successfully conradicts the "popular" atheists. If philosophical reasoning were incorrect, would have been rubbished by now. Explains why God cannot be an authoritarian Ogre. Explains why faith alone gets us to God, since our deeds cannot. God does not "send people to hell"; they choose it. God offers the only hope for shattered lives.George
