1. Goodnight Nobody: A Novel [Book]

Product Details:
New york times bestselling author jennifer weiner’s unforgettable story of adjusting to suburbia—and all the surprises hidden behind its doors.for kate klein, a semi-accidental mother of three, suburbia has been full of unpleasant surprises. her once-loving husband is hardly ever home. the supermommies on the playground routinely snub her. her days are spent carpooling and enduring endless games of candy land, and at night, most of her orgasms are of the do-it-yourself variety. when a fellow mother is murdered, kate finds that the unsolved mystery is the most exciting thing to happen in upchurch, connecticut, since her neighbors broke ground for a guesthouse and cracked their septic tank. even though the local police chief warns her that crime-fighting's a job best left to the professionals, kate launches an unofficial investigation — from 8:45 to 11:30 on mondays, wednesdays, and fridays, when her kids are in nursery school. as kate is drawn deeper into the murdered woman's past, she begins to uncover the secrets and lies behind upchurch's picket-fence facade — and considers the choices and compromises all modern women make as they navigate between marriage and independence, small towns and big cities, being a mother and having a life of one's own.
Reviews:
This is such a wonderful book by Jennifer Weiner! If you have or have not read her previous books, this is STILL WORTH READING! I especially like how its a Mom book, meaning its all about a Mother and her family, not just a single girl. Easy, conversational style writing makes this book the ideal weekend read! Curl up and dig in….its absolutely worth it!!obgirlyn0zph
My sister lent me this book. It would have never occurred to me to purchase it, as I had never read this author & wouldn't have thought much of the cover or title, even if it stared me directly in the face. I like this book because it is witty, hilarious, & says things many women probably have running through their minds when they are overwhelmed with their responsibilities or comparing themselves to others. Its not so much what the main character says, but how she says it & that she knows she probably shouldn't admit how she feels at all. I was impressed with her description of the other neighborhood moms, one of which was potty training without diapers to get her son in touch with his "natural rhythms." (a salad bowl was used instead) All the other mothers were plastic & perfect & actually took the time to make perky little health-food snacks in which they made letters of the alphabet out of Tofu (for example). The main character muses to herself that she might consider putting crack in the baked goods for a neighborhood bake-sale, as the restrictions on ingredients are so stiff. It is quite funny when you read it all. And everything is described so well & in detail, so you can visualize it. Basically, Kate is a suburban mother having fantasies of some attractive FBI agents telling her that she has been raising someone elses family & there has been a mistake, while she struggle to cook fish sticks & keep her, often away, husband happy, while she satisfies herself with a detachable shower nozzle.stilltorbiting
I love Jennifer Weiner – this is her third book I have read (I actually read it second after Good In Bed, then read In Her Shoes). This is a slightly different take for her: a fun quasi-mystery suspense thriller. If you haven't read Weiner, her characters tend to be Ivy League educated, angst-filled 30ish women who "don't fit in". I know I relate a great deal; maybe it's me or maybe it's her writing. Anyhow, the setting for this one is the wealthy suburbs outside of NYC (it's been a few weeks, probably New Jersey) and she's a married at home mom trying to solve a mystery among her cohorts. There's also an ex-flame in the picture. The book crumbles a little bit at the end, becomes a tiny bit silly, but still a fun great read and I consider Weiner the best chick lit author.goldenmom7500

Reviews:
I loved this book! It is very funny and witty in addition to being a great story. The author really allows the reader to "get to know" the characters without going on and on about each character. The book has so much more to it than the movie did. This is excellent reading material.sagewitannie
Saw the movie book great read I do recommend2011pattym1951
This book is great for a little bit of "me" time. The story is enjoyable and the characters are funny. You will laugh and cry while reading this book. The story is about two sisters who are very different but end up finding peace with one another and with themselves. This book isn't as good as Weiner's other novels, so I was a little dissapointed. Overall, though, I enjoyed it.kate*and*lilo

Reviews:
This book kept me at the edge of my seat. I wanted to know what happened to the young couple. The development of the story is brilliant. Each page slowly brings its readers some clarity on what went on before the disappearance. Family and friendship themes were woven through each character's lives. Each motivation acted upon the differences in their circumstances and social stature. The characters draw emotions depending on whose point of view is on the page. The characterization of mothers and the differences were put into focus here. Teenagers, cliques, self-discovery, and the mistakes they make are all glaring in this book. The resolution at the end for the younger woman was tight, not the typical happy ending since she didn't come back unscathed. Also, in conclusion, with one of the characters, the secrets he possesses just leave one stunned.Jane reads

Product Details:
A best book of 2021 by bloomberg businessweek, time, and the washington post the bestselling author of leonardo da vinci and steve jobs returns with a “compelling” (the washington post) account of how nobel prize winner jennifer doudna and her colleagues launched a revolution that will allow us to cure diseases, fend off viruses, and have healthier babies.when jennifer doudna was in sixth grade, she came home one day to find that her dad had left a paperback titled the double helix on her bed. she put it aside, thinking it was one of those detective tales she loved. when she read it on a rainy saturday, she discovered she was right, in a way. as she sped through the pages, she became enthralled by the intense drama behind the competition to discover the code of life. even though her high school counselor told her girls didn’t become scientists, she decided she would. driven by a passion to understand how nature works and to turn discoveries into inventions, she would help to make what the book’s author, james watson, told her was the most important biological advance since his codiscovery of the structure of dna. she and her collaborators turned a curiosity of nature into an invention that will transform the human race: an easy-to-use tool that can edit dna. known as crispr, it opened a brave new world of medical miracles and moral questions. the development of crispr and the race to create vaccines for coronavirus will hasten our transition to the next great innovation revolution. the past half-century has been a digital age, based on the microchip, computer, and internet. children who study digital coding will be joined by those who study genetic code. what a wonderful boon that would be! and what about preventing depression? after helping to discover crispr, doudna became a leader in wrestling with these moral issues and, with her collaborator emmanuelle charpentier, won the nobel prize in 2020. her story is an “enthralling detective story” (oprah daily) that involves the most profound wonders of nature, from the origins of life to the future of our species.
Reviews:
Very well-written, with up-to-date data and well-balanced information about all the key players. The science was not overly complicated and still provided a good over-view of the field of microbial genetics. The information was especially timely due to potential applications to Covid.pauhana!
BRAVO to Walter Isaacson for taking a complicated and controversial subject, doing extensive research, and breaking down technical scientific information, making it reader friendly for the interested person!!! I have read every word and developed a much better understanding of gene editing and the current COVID crisis. Thank you for making this book available!!DENAP

Great author and bookkawa-9218
Summer has wanted Colin AKA "Fitz" for more than a year now. When they see each other next, she is attending the same school, and even his roommate. If only he hadn't implied she was superficial. Fitz has tried everything to stay away from Summer. Each day brings another reason or event where he has to see her, talk to her, and get to know her. The more he does the more he wants. If he hadn't mad her mad somehow…… I feel like the characters getting together was inevitable. They have a lot in common, including the people they hang around with, family, etc. I think it was good for both of them to grow and find one another. I was thrilled to see some old favorites and fell in love with this new series in moments.2kasmom

15. Waisted: A Novel [Book]

Product Details:
In this “big-hearted triumph of a novel” (carolyn parkhurst, new york times bestselling author) for fans of jennifer weiner, seven women enrolled in an extreme weight loss documentary discover self-love and sisterhood as they enact a daring revenge against the exploitative filmmakers.alice and daphne, both successful and accomplished working mothers, harbor the same secret: obsession with their weight overshadows concerns about their children, husbands, work—and everything else of importance in their lives. daphne, plump in a family of model-thin women, discovered early that only slimness earns admiration. alice, break-up skinny when she met her husband, risks losing her marriage if she keeps gaining weight. the two women meet at waisted. located in a remote vermont mansion, the program promises fast, dramatic weight loss, and alice, daphne, and five other women are desperate enough to leave behind their families for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. the catch? they must agree to always be on camera; afterward, the world will see waisted: the documentary. but the women soon discover that the filmmakers have trapped them in a cruel experiment. with each pound lost, they edge deeper into obsession and instability…until they decide to take matters into their own hands. randy susan meyers “spins a compelling tale” (kirkus reviews) and “delivers a timely examination of body image, family, friendship, and what it means to be a woman in modern society… culturally inclusive and societally on point, this is a must-read” (library journal).
Reviews:
Aren'the most overweight women dying to be thin? Waisted by Randy Susan Meyers is an upsetting novel that examines the lengths some people may choose to go in their path to carving out the body they desire. An ad for a luxury resort where a person can examine how to eat nutritiously, exercise well, unearth the reasons for being overweight, and find their new normal. That is the promise behind a documentary film maker who sets out to get women to sign on to his project, and because our society values deprivation, he has no problem finding ingredients enough women for his film. There are some catches in the contract though: all electronics are confiscated, no outside contacts, monitored meals and exercise at their discretion, and tactics that are just inhumane. The first day, first meeting: "Coleen leapt on her back. 'Get up. Walk.' Alice stumbling under Coleen's weight tried to stand. Finally, after tensing her stomach muscles to protect herself, she rose and then took a halting step. 'Giddysp!' Coleen yelled straight and loud into her ear. She dug her hands into Alice's shoulders and wrapped her legs around her waist" (78). That is just the start of the humiliation the women suffer. Alice and Daphne are both quite successful working mothers, but they both feel 'less than' due to their weight. Neither could have imagined the true purpose of the documentary: To determine how much humiliation and deprivation a woman was willing to experience to try to meet the societal expectations of a strong, thin woman as the only path to true beauty. The book is most likely more upsetting to women who have suffered or questioned their worth based on what they weigh any one day. If you have more than two sizes in your closet, if you have ever fasted to lose weight, if you have ever done a drastic weight loss program, this book will probably fascinate and repel you. I rate it a 4 out of 5, and I recommend it as a good summer read.Inpurplereader

Wow! Just wow! I started tonight at about half way through and I could not go to bed until I was done. This book was amazing! My emotions were all over the place. At times, I found myself smiling (like cheesy grins) from some of the characters. I just loved Jayden! Just his presence was magical. This also left me sobbing! I mean tears were flowing. I cried with tears of excitement and happiness and also tears of sadness. It was a rollercoaster, but in the best way possible from a book. I loved both of the main characters and all of the other characters. Everyone plays an important role in this story and brings an additional attachment to some real life hardships. This is the best book I have read in 2016 so far! Can't wait to pick up the next JLA book!!!Kelly
