I had a friend that recomended this book, and I have to admit I was put off at first, but once I picked it up and started reading it I was surprised at how well it address so many of the issues I was facing. I found this book to be well written and very helpful. It gives scripts by age of how to break the news to kids, and also talks a lot about how parents should act towards each other for the best interests of their kids. It's more meaningful because the author has been through divorce so has his own experience to draw on and that makes it seem more valuable as he is humbled by his own failings too. I read this in half a day and felt much better for it, highly recommended whatever stage of divorce you're at if you have kids!

I love this book because I am a big Lewis fan. I read this book for the first time in high school in 11th grade from the recomendation from my older brother. I fell in love with this book immediately, and I even wrote a 16-page paper about him. This is a good book confronting the reality of what Heaven and Hell really are. It is a short book, but it does not lack in description or symbolism. If you haven't read anything by Lewis but the Chronicles, don't expect this book to be the same. It is totally different, yet to those who are Lewis fanatics, The Great Divorce is very much like the Chronicles. When I say they are different, I mean the Chronicles are Sci-Fi, but The Great Divorce though it is fantasy, it is more realistic than talking fawns and whatnot.kathartheart
Admittedly, I have a certain degree of difficulty decoding C.S. Lewis's brand of science fiction/Christian fiction. It is not so much that I can not appreciate his writing as that I have trouble picturing the fantastic concepts that Lewis paints. This being said, I was able to take quite a lot from this book. In "The Great Divorce", the narrator dreams he has taken a bus ride that allows him a visit to eternity. Visiting both heaven and hell, Lewis paints a picture that in some ways reminds me of the movie "What Dreams May Come". Beneath the imagery is a morality play in which people's choices have consequences. Some people make choices that put them in a position that causes harm to their soul which can be healed if they are made to see their fault. The most famous line of the book epitomizes the concept: "thy will be done" or "Thy will be done". Readers need not accept the imagery created in this book to appreciate the messages. Choices have consequences for our soul. The correct choices decrease the burden on our soul and allow us the opportunity of eternal life in paradise
