As a fan of Raz's How I Built This podcast, I had a feeling that this book may not be full of anything new – and would simply be a recap of past podcast episodes. While Raz likely leveraged some insights from those episodes, the book was so so so much more than a simple recap. I was pleasantly surprised at just how many insightful and informative tips were included in this release.bookreader09
Rather than just sharing the highlights of successful businesses, "How I Built This" includes the struggles, pivots and clever ideas that helped keep the businesses going when things weren't going well. Inspirational read for start-ups and a great reminder that failing is part of the process – it's Ok to work it out as you go along.Jen P

Product Details:

4. The Lean Startup: How Constant Innovation Creates Radically Successful Businesses [Book]
Product Details:
"most startups are built to fail. but those failures, according to entrepreneur eric ries, are preventable. startups don't fail because of bad execution, or missed deadlines, or blown budgets. they fail because they are building something nobody wants. whether they arise from someone's garage or are created within a mature fortune 500 organization, new ventures, by definition, are designed to create new products or services under conditions of extreme uncertainly. one of the central premises of the lean startup movement is what ries calls "validated learning" about the customer.

Without a doubt, the single most informative book on the iterative entrepreneurial process. The contents of this book, if followed, replaces the needless suffering of failing to find product-market fit. Every entrepreneurship class I have ever sat in (Babson, RMIT, Swinburne) has at some point referenced the ideas contained in this text. Again, if followed, this book can easily replace an entire degree or masters…. Enjoy!Mattwastaken
Not bad but a lot more focused on IT start-ups as opposed to manufacturing which it purports to include but which gets little attention. So, good if you are doing IT but maybe still a bit wordy and not quite as inspiring as what I was hoping for.Alistair
This book is a MUST read if you are planning to set up your own business. Whilst most examples are about the tech industry, it provides a robust framework applicable to any start up.A must read for any aspiring ent

Product Details:
Author of cult classics the pumpkin plan and the toilet paper entrepreneur offers a simple, counterintuitive cash management solution that will help small businesses break out of the doom spiral and achieve instant profitability.conventional accounting uses the logical (albeit, flawed) formula: sales – expenses = profit. the problem is, businesses are run by humans, and humans aren't always logical. serial entrepreneur mike michalowicz has developed a behavioral approach to accounting to flip the formula: sales – profit = expenses. just as the most effective weight loss strategy is to limit portions by using smaller plates, michalowicz shows that by taking profit first and apportioning only what remains for expenses, entrepreneurs will transform their businesses from cash-eating monsters to profitable cash cows. using michalowicz's profit first system, readers will learn that:· following 4 simple principles can simplify accounting and make it easier to manage a profitable business by looking at bank account balances. · a small, profitable business can be worth much more than a large business surviving on its top line. · businesses that attain early and sustained profitability have a better shot at achieving long-term growth.with dozens of case studies, practical, step-by-step advice, and his signature sense of humor, michalowicz has the game-changing roadmap for any entrepreneur to make money they always dreamed of.

I originally checked this book out at my college library but after delving in, I knew I had to have my own copy. The information is so relevant. The author is on point with his scenarios and topics. In addition the reader can write in with his or her answers to the case studies and get personal feedback from the author! Who does that?! THIS guy! I'm learning so much and the language is not legalesed and technicalized to the point that a common person will need a dictionary, thesaurus or encyclopedia to understand what is being presented. I'm a budding entrepreneur and the way everything is written will have you believing (rightfully so) that you CAN be a success in which ever business you choose. Whether you will do a brick and mortar, e-commerce, LLC, DBA, partnership or whatever facet of business ownership you choose, you will be well prepared for the highs, liws, ups, downs ins and outs of being a SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR!!! I HIGHLY recommend this book. It's clear, concise, pertinent information that you will utilize for all the information of becoming a successful entrepreneur! Product Details:
Is the financial plan of mediocrity — a dream-stealing, soul-sucking dogma known as "the slowlane" your plan for creating wealth? you know how it goes; it sounds a lil something like this: "go to school, get a good job, save 10% of your paycheck, buy a used car, cancel the movie channels, quit drinking expensive starbucks mocha lattes, save and penny-pinch your life away, trust your life-savings to the stock market, and one day, when you are oh, say, 65 years old, you can retire rich." the mainstream financial gurus have sold you blindly down the river to a great financial gamble: you've been hoodwinked to believe that wealth can be created by recklessly trusting in the uncontrollable and unpredictable markets: the housing market, the stock market, and the job market. this impotent financial gamble dubiously promises wealth in a wheelchair — sacrifice your adult life for a financial plan that reaps dividends in the twilight of life. accept the slowlane as your blueprint for wealth and your financial future will blow carelessly asunder on a sailboat of hope: hope you can find a job and keep it, hope the stock market doesn't tank, hope the economy rebounds, hope, hope, and hope. do you really want hope to be the centerpiece for your family's financial plan? drive the slowlane road and you will find your life deteriorate into a miserable exhibition about what you cannot do, versus what you can. for those who don't want a lifetime subscription to "settle-for-less" and a slight chance of elderly riches, there is an alternative; an expressway to extraordinary wealth that can burn a trail to financial independence faster than any road out there. * why jobs, 401(k)s, mutual funds, and 40-years of mindless frugality will never make you rich young. * why most entrepreneurs fail and how to immediately put the odds in your favor. * the real law of wealth: leverage this and wealth has no choice but to be magnetized to you. * the leading cause of poorness: change this and you change everything. * how the rich really get rich – and no, it has nothing to do with a paycheck or a 401k match. * why the guru's grand deity – compound interest – is an impotent wealth accelerator. * why the guru myth of "do what you love" will most likely keep you poor, not rich. * and 250+ more poverty busting distinctions… demand the fastlane, an alternative road-to-wealth; one that actually ignites dreams and creates millionaires young, not old. change lanes and find your explosive wealth accelerator.

This is the best book I have read yet on my journey to financial freedom. There is no up-sell as with most of the others, just the wrath of experience from the author. I like the summaries at the end of each chapter. When I go back to the book, I will read these and if I don't recall their meaning can just look at the sections I need to. Five minutes into the book I threw out my preconceived notions of what this book would be and got into the exercises. The author, Lisa Sonora Beam, obviously knows how creative types think and also knows business. She has developed a unique method for us creative types to put both halves of our brain together…the left side, practical side, and the right side, creative side, in order to build a highly successful business. I highly recommend this book. Not only is it visually pleasing, it is full of practical, down-to-earth information that will help you grow your creative business in the way you want it to move. Full of sidebars, visuals, case studies and strategies, this is one of the best business books for creative individuals I have read in a long time.purveyorallthingscreative
16. The Startup: Reinvent The Way You Make A Living, Do What You Love, And Create A New Future [Book]

Product Details:
In the $100 startup, chris guillebeau shows you how to lead of life of adventure, meaning and purpose – and earn a good living. still in his early thirties, chris is on the verge of completing a tour of every country on earth – he's already visited more than 175 nations – and yet he's never held a “real job” or earned a regular paycheck. rather, he has a special genius for turning ideas into income, and he uses what he earns both to support his life of adventure and to give back. there are many others like chris – those who've found ways to opt out of traditional employment and create the time and income to pursue what they find meaningful. sometimes, achieving that perfect blend of passion and income doesn't depend on shelving what you currently do. you can start small with your venture, committing little time or money, and wait to take the real plunge when you're sure it's successful. in preparing to write this book, chris identified 1,500 individuals who have built businesses earning $50,000 or more from a modest investment (in many cases, $100 or less), and from that group he's chosen to focus on the 50 most intriguing case studies. in nearly all cases, people with no special skills discovered aspects of their personal passions that could be monetized, and were able to restructure their lives in ways that gave them greater freedom and fulfillment. here, finally, distilled into one easy-to-use guide, are the most valuable lessons from those who've learned how to turn what they do into a gateway to self-fulfillment. it's all about finding the intersection between your “expertise” – even if you don't consider it such — and what other people will pay for. you don't need an mba, a business plan or even employees. all you need is a product or service that springs from what you love to do anyway, people willing to pay, and a way to get paid. not content to talk in generalities, chris tells you exactly how many dollars his group of unexpected entrepreneurs required to get their projects up and running; what these individuals did in the first weeks and months to generate significant cash; some of the key mistakes they made along the way, and the crucial insights that made the business stick. among chris's key principles: if you're good at one thing, you're probably good at something else; never teach a man to fish – sell him the fish instead; and in the battle between planning and action, action wins. in ancient times, people who were dissatisfied with their lives dreamed of finding magic lamps, buried treasure, or streets paved with gold. this remarkable book will start you on your way.
