6. Confessions Of The Pricing Man: How Price Affects Everything [Book]

Product Details:
The world’s foremost expert on pricing strategy shows how this mysterious process works and how to maximize value through pricing to company and customer. price is the place where value and money meet. – the recipe for successful pricing often sounds like an exotic cocktail, with equal parts psychology, economics, strategy, tools and incentives stirred up together, usually with just enough math to sour the taste. that leads managers to water down the drink with hunches and rules of thumb, or leave out the parts with which they don’t feel comfortable. while this makes for a sweeter drink, it often lacks the punch to have an impact on the customer or on the business. – it doesn’t have to be that way, though, as hermann simon illustrates through dozens of stories collected over four decades in the trenches and behind the scenes. a world-renowned speaker on pricing and a trusted advisor to fortune 500 executives, simon’s lifelong journey has taken him from rural farmers’ markets, to a distinguished academic career, to a long second career as an entrepreneur and management consultant to companies large and small throughout the world. along the way, he has learned from nobel prize winners and leading management gurus, and helped countless managers and executives use pricing as a way to create new markets, grow their businesses and gain a sustained competitive advantage. he also learned some tough personal lessons about value, how people perceive it, and how people profit from it. – in this engaging and practical narrative, simon leaves nothing out of the pricing cocktail, but still makes it go down smoothly and leaves you wanting to learn more and do more—as a consumer or as a business person. you will never look at pricing the same way again.

14. Good Strategy Bad Strategy: The Difference And Why It Matters [Book]

Product Details:
Clears out the mumbo jumbo and muddled thinking underlying too many strategies and provides a clear way to create and implement a powerful action-oriented strategy for the real world developing and implementing a strategy is the central task of a leader, whether the ceo at a fortune 100 company, an entrepreneur, a church pastor, the head of a school, or a government official. richard rumelt shows that there has been a growing and unfortunate tendency to equate mom-and-apple-pie values, fluffy packages of buzzwords, motivational slogans, and financial goals with “strategy.” he debunks these elements of “bad strategy” and awakens an understanding of the power of a “good strategy.” a good strategy is a specific and coherent response to—and approach for overcoming—the obstacles to progress. a good strategy works by harnessing and applying power where it will have the greatest effect in challenges as varied as putting a man on the moon, fighting a war, launching a new product, responding to changing market dynamics, starting a charter school, or setting up a government program. rumelt'snine sources of power—ranging from using leverage to effectively focusing on growth—are eye-opening yet pragmatic tools that can be put to work on monday morning. – surprisingly, a good strategy is often unexpected because most organizations don't have one. instead, they have “visions,” mistake financial goals for strategy, and pursue a “dog's dinner” of conflicting policies and actions. – rumelt argues that the heart of a good strategy is insight—into the true nature of the situation, into the hidden power in a situation, and into an appropriate response. he shows you how insight can be cultivated with a wide variety of tools for guiding yourown thinking. – good strategy/bad strategy uses fascinating examples from business, nonprofit, and military affairs to bring its original and pragmatic ideas to life. the detailed examples range from apple to general motors, from the two iraq wars to afghanistan, from a small local market to wal-mart, from nvidia to silicon graphics, from the getty trust to the los angeles unified school district, from cisco systems to paccar, and from global crossing to the 2007–08 financial crisis. – reflecting an astonishing grasp and integration of economics, finance, technology, history, and the brilliance and foibles of the human character, good strategy/bad strategy stems from rumelt's decades of digging beyond the superficial to address hard questions with honesty and integrity.

read about the intelligent investor while browsing the internet. After much consideration I decided to bite the bullet and buy it. The only reason I gave it such a low review was because it was basically was just confirming what I already knew buy in cheap sell off big ride the market like a roller coaster. don't put all your eggs in one basket. I like the book because Graham has a broad view of investment strategies how ever he was wrong about the governmental CD as I put his strategies into practice on an asx simulator. the cds I bought didn't work out all to well. (Maybe it was a poor choice on my part.) although he made me fell better as I read it as he put one of those annoying know it all in their place. Anyway graham was a intelligent man regardless of the book. making money off the book very intelligent. His words of wisdom were easy to read and under stand. how ever due to slow growth in recent times as business don't seem t be able to grow much technology is nearing its peak . Its not as useful as it would have been in the 1970s -1999s. Even though some of the companies are still doing ok in todays market must of them have become redundant. Grahams the intelligent investor makes it simple to understand and has They are no where near as unfortunately none of my "friend" would enjoy this type of literature to much fact not enough fiction.reader
