Reviews:
I didn't really think of myself as an overthinker before picking up this book, but I thought maybe I could pick up some tips for other people in my life who are. Haha! Let's just say I learned a few things about myself! Anne Bogel addresses the many ways we overthink and the impact overthinking has on our lives. Best of all, she offers real-life strategies for stopping overthinking in its tracks. As Anne writes, "mental energy is not a limitless resource," and the more we can find offramps from the cycle of overthinking, the healthier we will be mentally and emotionally. The book is full of practical suggestions you can incorporate immediately into your daily life. Some of the ideas that resonated with me were: * There's seldom one right answer. Don't waste time looking for one. * I can take baby steps forward to shift my momentum and get unstuck. * I can use systems and habits to clear my physical and mental clutter. My new mantra is "complete the cycle!" * Turning routines into rituals improves our mental and spiritual health. *Anne even offers practical tips for inviting people over for meals-a major source of anxiety for me! Even if you don't consider yourself an overthinker, I highly recommend you pick up this book. There's something here for anyone who wants to live a less anxious and more mindful life! (Thanks to NetGalley and Baker Books for providing an ARC for this book.)Jules33
Analysis paralysis. Rumination. Perfectionism. How do we fight these and so many other types of overthinking? Values-based decision making. Completing the cycle. Simple abundance. Fans of Anne Bogel, her blog (Modern Mrs. Darcy), and her podcast (What Should I Read Next) will be familiar with Anne's skill for bringing universal subjects to an intimate level and helping us see them with fresh eyes. She turns her talent to the subject of chronic over-thinking in her new book, Don't Overthink It: Make Easier Decisions, Stop Second-Guessing, and Bring More Joy to Your Life. 'Life changing' is an over-used term lately. But it's accurate for this book. Reading it has changed my life for the better. The thoughts, ideas, and processes that Anne shares in the book aren't highly original; we've heard them before, seen them elsewhere. The genius of the book is that she's brought them all together in one place and presented them in such an engaging manner. The information is both practical and practicable. The chapter on values-based decisions, titled Decide What Matters, has caused a major shift in the way I live my life because I did, after a lot of reflection, decide what matters most to me. This now informs all my choices, though it takes time for it to become automatic. And the chapter on limiting your options to save your sanity, Limit Yourself to Free Yourself, helped me see why having all the options is not always a good thing. "Each small decision requires only a bit of brain power, but the cumulative effect is large." You may not think you're an Overthinker. You may not regularly be an Overthinker. But the lessons in this book are helpful whether you face chronic decision-making problems or are just going through a season of decision-overload.Blue89
Are you someone who overthinks your decisions? Maybe you replay conversations over and over in your head. Maybe negative thoughts have become the norm for you. Overthinking is something that I have struggled with for many years. When I saw that Anne Bogel was writing a book about how to stop overthinking, it went on my must-read list. In her book Don't Overthink It, Anne Bogel talks about many areas in which we overthink and how we can stop. In one chapter she talks about looking at our values and how they affect our decision making. In another chapter, Anne writes about limiting the amount of decisions that need to be made when it comes to menu planning, choosing an outfit, and where you shop. My favorite chapter in the book is called "Tend Your Garden." In this chapter, Anne talks about how our thoughts can affect our lives. She writes, "Our lives reflect what we persistently think about. Where we choose to place our attention affects the way we experience the world around us and the people we become." One thing that she suggests in this chapter is to exercise to help overthinking. At the end of every chapter, there is a section that has questions where the reader can reflect on what they have read in the chapter. These questions help readers put into practice what they have read.Heather89
6. Women Who Think Too Much: How To Break Free Of Overthinking And Reclaim Your Life [Book]

Product Details:
"groundbreaking research . . . women who think too much tells why overthinking occurs, why it hurts people, and how to stop." —usa today it's no surprise that our fast-paced, overly self-analytical culture is pushing many people—especially women—to spend countless hours thinking about negative ideas, feelings, and experiences. renowned psychologist dr. susan nolen-hoeksema calls this overthinking, and her groundbreaking research shows that an increasing number of women—more than half of those in her extensive study—are doing it too much and too often, leading to sadness, anxiety, and depression. she challenges the assumption—heralded by so many pop-psychology pundits of the last several decades—that constantly expressing and analyzing our emotions is a good thing. in women who think too much, nolen-hoeksema shows us what causes so many women to be overthinkers and provides concrete strategies that can be used to escape these negative thoughts, move to higher ground, and live more productively. women who think too much will change lives, and is destined to become a self-help classic.

I purchased this book back when it was first released. I am a huge fan of Jay and his “make wisdom viral” movement. I loved the content of this book, very insightful and reinforces many spiritual practices but uses scientific findings to back them up! I also highly recommend this podcast “On Purpose”!
Wow, this book is jam-packed with so much wisdom. If you take the time to read it and work the exercises, it will change your life! Heck, it will change your life if you just read it and don't do the exercises … of course the change will be that much greater if you dive into it with both feet. Jay translates ancient, time tested, wisdom to make it relevant for today. From the first page this book has you challenging your beliefs, thinking about what is true and gearing up to make those changes you've been wanting to make. Everything seems so simple and from the first sentence you're looking at life and your relationship to it in a different way. Can't recommend this highly enough. It's a total life changer! Go for it!LizC

Product Details:
Jay shetty, social media superstar and host of the #1 podcast on purpose, distills the timeless wisdom he learned as a monk into practical steps anyone can take every day to live a less anxious, more meaningful life.when you think like a monk, you’ll understand: -how to overcome negativity -how to stop overthinking -why comparison kills love -how to use your fear -why you can’t find happiness by looking for it -how to learn from everyone you meet -why you are not your thoughts -how to find your purpose -why kindness is crucial to success -and much more… shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things—a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. his family was convinced he had chosen option three: instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to india to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. after three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others. heavily in debt, and with no recognizable skills on his résumé, he moved back home in north london with his parents. shetty reconnected with old school friends—many working for some of the world’s largest corporations—who were experiencing tremendous stress, pressure, and unhappiness, and they invited shetty to coach them on well-being, purpose, and mindfulness. since then, shetty has become one of the world’s most popular influencers. in 2017, he was named in the forbes magazine 30-under-30 for being a game-changer in the world of media. in 2018, he had the #1 video on facebook with over 360 million views. his social media following totals over 38 million, he has produced over 400 viral videos which have amassed more than 8 billion views, and his podcast, on purpose, is consistently ranked the world’s #1 health and wellness podcast. combining ancient wisdom and his own rich experiences in the ashram, think like a monk reveals how to overcome negative thoughts and habits, and access the calm and purpose that lie within all of us. shetty proves that everyone can—and should—think like a monk.
