I am amazed and fascinated by Rick Riordan's books and not for the good reasons. If you are expecting to read a really cheap version of Harry Poter's books and if you are 8 years old or not smart enough to see all the mistakes in the book, buy it, it will keep you entertain. I need to read the next two books, because I just can't believe the nerve of this saga. I loved this series as a child in school, and I was super excited to get a full set for myself. Especially when it was on sale! 3.50$ a piece seemed like a great deal. To my dismay, the books arrived sealed in plastic but damaged. The first book was very scuffed at the top. The fifth book had what looked like water/glue damage to the spine. I pulled them out of the container, and all of them had some small form of wear and tear. The overall quality is not great either – the covers are very thin and could easily be torn. If you’re looking for a cheap set for yourself – only get this on sale. I would not recommend as a gift because of the damage and poor quality.Kate

I was surprised my 10-year-old daughter asked for this for her birthday yesterday. I was expecting her to ask for a bike or unicorn pajamas. But no, she wanted this book. We gave her Volume 1 just 6 months ago. She obviously loves the stories, and the artwork is compelling. The pull-out map is very useful to locate the story on a map. I've read one story a day to my third grade class since I received my books. We talk about the struggle the person over came and how that's made a difference. Here is an essay one of my students wrote… In my opinion, I think I would rather meet Benjamin Franklin than George Washington . One reason I think that is because, I could invent stuff with him. The book overall was great. Our family is apposed to tampon use. The book did go into deal about the proper way to use them. However, I personally felt the information was to much. A suggestion is possibly having books that have direct information in a cliff note version as well as using pads that give details. The level 2 book could have brushed the use. The same night, I ordered two copies for home that will eventually land in my lending library. The writing is accessible and easily understandable. In the late 1960's a new type of American literature evolved, one that spoke straight to the social and economic needs of teens and largely bypassed the sentimental, boy-meets-girl fiction that had largely been the norm before. To the West are the middle-class "Socs," the better-off but not necessarily "rich" kids. Promoted as a teen book, it really is excellent for teens and adults (my restriction is that younger children might find it too disturbing). Extremely well written and compelling. Quite a different story and I think, very thought provoking. This particular copy, I am giving to a friend to enjoy. We have bought the full series. The 3rd and possibly the final book on just came out. It is about death in a world where natural death no longer occurs and how that is made to happen. If that intrigues you, I think you may very well enjoy this book–which is stand alone or you can buy the series. We enjoyed it so much that we have now purchaced more books from this author to read at a later time.stanandcarol
Easily one of the best middle grade books I've read in a while. Neal Shusterman is an amazing writer already so he didn't disappoint. He's created this unique world that is eye-opening and may reveal some of the lengths people would go to to get what they want. You'll also fall in love with the characters that actually seem like they're real and are detailedand in depth. I love this book and this series.lusine.m

i brought the first 5 of the shatter me series and i have only started this one so far i have nearly finished the first book (GOing to finish the last couple pages later)BUT BASICALLY I LOVE the first one its a book you can easily finish in 1 day.i dont love aaron warner as the whole of booktok seems to though? idk but maybe my mind could change when i read the rest of the series anyways so far i actually love her and adman.if your a fan of dystopian worlds then i guess you should read it grabbed by interest from the verry first page.tiadavy

I read this series when I was 15 and was thinking about how much I enjoyed them, so ordered them again at 20 and remembered why. Definitely written for a YA audience (I have obviously grown since then and can recognise this now) but doesn't change the magic in her writing and the emotion and excitement on every page. I love this series, I love this author, and I'm keeping them around to re-read again in another few years!Ellie
