I loved this book! It's a fantastic follow up to Ashley's first book, the 30 Day Money Cleanse. Ashley really breaks down the basics of personal finance, and all with a positive, encouraging, "you can do this" tone. One thing that's particularly great about this book is that she comes at these financial issues – insurance, investing, big purchases, taxes, etc. – with an eye toward equity and social justice. I think it's easy for books like this to assume a certain white middle class baseline and she not only doesn't make these assumptions, but she addresses these assumptions head on. She has a whole chapter on Equity and Personal Finance, and another chapter on Consumer Activism, and these themes are present throughout. And as someone who feels like I'm fairly culturally competent, and fairly financially savvy, I learned a lot from this book and am feeling inspired to make changes. Reading Nora Bradbury-Haehl’s prose is like sitting down for a coffee and a chat with a good friend. Her breezy, colloquial style is very accessible to both younger and older adults, and she addresses a broad range of topics, from the very practical how-to advice, to the more nebulous “it’s OK to feel this way” commentary that you might not even realize you need to hear. And while the book takes a faith-based approach, it is not a book ABOUT religion, but rather one in which faith is interwoven with other aspects of real life. Greetings, I am so happy I decided to make this purchase, for a few reasons. I bought this book as a gift for my oldest niece/Goddaughter as part of her wedding gift. The book was a quick read with very funny information for the new couple. I also got some great tips and suggestions. I invited the bride's Mom, Aunt, and Grandmother to read the book and offer any advice. Each of us was assigned a certain color gel pen to write in, so my niece knew who was offering her suggestions, advice and any other input. Now my niece can look back at this book for information from the author, her Mom, two Aunts and Grandmother. The book offered room on each page to allow each of us to write as much as we wanted. I would recommend this book to any new college student, a young adult moving out on their own and, of course, a newly married couple. This purchase made an unique, thoughtful, loving gift.
