It's been a while. But I did read this book and it's pretty good. For every chapter they do offer you some sayings or quotes. I believe it does have some religion bases on this book. I would recommend this book, I believe you can get this at Target or you can just order this book on Amazon.patty.c
I love reading books like this. It’s a wonderful way to calm yourself after such a long day. My life was so chaotic and all over the place. I feel now it’s a whole lot more simple. There’s so much good ideas/advice in this book. Totally recommend thisclaudia.v
Shauna's books are unlike any other faith based books I've read before. Breaking down the common barriers of religion and doctrine and getting to the true purpose of faith, which is Jesus and his unending grace for you and me. If I had to compare Shauna's writings to another I would say Brene Brown is closest, while Shauna's words offer even more hope and healing. I never want to put Shauna's books down, especially not Present Over Perfect.AbiRay

3. The Gift Of Being Yourself: The Sacred Call To Self-Discovery [Book]

Product Details:
"grant, lord, that i may know myself that i may know thee." —augustine much is said in christian circles about knowing god. but christians throughout the ages have agreed that there cannot be deep knowledge of god without deep knowledge of the self. discerning your true self is inextricably related to discerning god's purposes for you. paradoxically, the more you become like christ, the more you become authentically yourself. in this profound exploration of christian identity, psychologist and spiritual director david g. he exposes the false selves that you may hide behind and calls you to discover the true self that emerges from your uniqueness in christ. freeing you from illusions about yourself, benner shows that self-understanding leads to the fulfillment of your god-given destiny and vocation. rest assured, you need not try to be someone you are not. but you will deepen your experience of god through discovering the gift of being yourself. this expanded edition, one of three titles in the spiritual journey trilogy, includes a new epilogue and an experiential guide with questions for individual reflection or group discussion.
Reviews:
This is a pretty useful book about learning to discover who you really are what you are really like. Only by truly being yourself can you then truly know God and when you know God you also find out more about who you really are and what God has planned for you. That summary seems very wishy washy but the book is full of practical suggestions on how to bring this about and even points the way towards some excellent resources to help in the journey of self-discovery.
Perfect book for growing in the Lord.*needles
Loving it and well worth reading. A must have for self Discovery!

Reviews:
I first encountered PON in 2006 and started reading it then. Once you read this book you can't go back to your old ways of being, well you can but you are not "unaware" any longer so it makes it hard to live in the old way you are used to. I struggled with it as all who start reading do, It plants a seed and with your cooperation it grows. You will struggle with it as all do, some people more then others, then with cooperation, determination and consistency your world changes. You're view points of the world change, the way you deal with challenging people and situations changes. You are now cooperating with life and life is able to now help you. I also found doing around 10 minutes of meditation at the start of my day gets me "dialed in" to practice living in the now all day long. I was a total mess in 2006, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. But it's 2018 and I'm the healthiest I've ever been cause of Echkart Tolle and his books. I'm ontop of the world, and I'm at peace with life, It's down right Awesome! Buy It! It's the best thing you can do for yourself and those around you. Also buy "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle and "Miltons Secret" he wrote it for children. Enjoy this book and learn to enjoy life!.usa_emporium
I have offered this book to twelve personal friends (thus far….) Three of them, without communicating with the other individuals, have come to me and said that it was, "the best gift anyone (inside or outside of their family) has ever given to them." I had nothing to do with the book – but continue to feel that I am pointing folks in the right direction. If you're reading this – you were supposed to… I hope this note / book will help you too.lfhunt1
I will preface my review by saying that these type of books are generally very polarizing: either you love it because the message speaks clearly to your heart, or you're compelled to prove it inaccurate because it does not. Having said that, I truly love this book because it has the special ability to always put me in that state of amazement whenever I read it. I have read it beginning to end, but I really use it to help me enter the 'now' by reading just a few passages. For me, it does not matter which passage, I can literally open any page and read a few lines, and I am there. Even thinking about this book relaxes my mind and puts me in that state. For that, I consider it very special. This is probably the 5th or 6th copy I am buying, because I keep giving them away. I don't claim that this is the only book that can do such a thing, but it does for me. I can also totally understand if you think it's a bunch of crap, but I can't deny what it does for me, and maybe in the end that's truly what's important.omni_deals
6. The Body Keeps The Score: Brain, Mind, And Body In The Healing Of Trauma [Book]
Product Details:

Reviews:
This is an amazing book! when i found this book it called out to me. it was hard to put down. (it does also have a workbook also) I believe if you have trauma in your life or have someone you care about who has, this is a great read! I came from a home filled with many area's of trauma. Then married into more areas of trauma! Now i work with kids in the system. I was beyond ready to start trying to find way to help understand and fix my past and would help me,to understand and maybe help the kids i work with.Teresa
Finally, here is writing about the history of the PTSD diagnosis and how it came to be. And the compassion and caring that these psychiatrists and therapists and researchers express for their patients/clients is very touching. To me, it's as good a book as "The Road Less Traveled" by M. Scott Peck, MD. Easy to read, lots of case histories that actually make sense, and are to the point, and the history of research into causation and the relationship between early childhood trauma, and how the brain adapts in order to "function" after it interprets the trauma. Researchers are actually developing standards for measuring what used to be thought of as "immeasurable". As an accountant and financial analyst, it's the kind of stuff I LOVE!gemsfromjan
A guide for gaining empathy, The Body Keeps The Score: Brain Mind And Body In The Healing Of Trauma is a must-read for anyone recovering from trauma. The book has a three part thesis, supported by science, case studies and experience. 1. Trauma (violence, abuse) embeds itself in the most primal parts of our brains, 2. changing our bodies’ aches and pains into a document of our psychic distress, 3. and our rational minds “hide” the wounds through shame, convincing us the trauma was our fault. As a curious cat with PTSD, this book answered most questions about “how/why” I wound up so easily spooked. It also offers insight into various healing modalities. So far, I’ve tried yoga and psychodrama (#cosplay yay!).andrea.f

Reviews:
Brene Brown takes topics like vulnerability and shame and makes them easy to understand and relate to. I did alot of underlining. I felt less alone reading this book. This book helped me understand how putting ourselves down holds us back from truly living and how people of all kinds struggle with acceptance of self and confidence. Her writing style is conversational despite the fact that she is an expert in her field and has a PhD. This book made me want to love myself and people more unconditionally. This book would benefit a mom, a construction worker, a teacher, a CEO…any human who wants to live with less junk in their head and less obstacles in their path.AQHayes
This book, like all of Brene's work, is astounding, eye-opening, and so very relevant. Her style is personal, and sometimes funny. Never preachy. She includes her own journey through her work, and how her subject matter and the things she's learned along the way affects her life. Read it, live it, then read it again.Tones
This book seem to be interesting. I shall read it through the beginning to the end. I have trouble accepting my own imperfections.estefania.e

I recommend for anyone interested in self development books. It gives practical advice on how to change your mindset in order to achieve more and get yourself the best of your liferamcri82
Mindset is a great book for anyone who wishes to learn how to learn. Most of us are taught what to learn in schools, work and universities but not how to go about learning. The two basic mindsets covered are the fixed and growth mindsets and everyone has a mixture of these. Recognising the triggers and shifting to the right mindset takes deliberate practice and reframing. Find out more IG: @vitalmindsetsRubik
Dweck presents a dichotomy between fixed mindset (grounded in innate talent/intellect/gifts, excessive judgement, intolerance of mistakes) against a growth mindset (an ongoing love for development/learning, acceptance of setbacks, continued striving to improve). In reality we are all a mix of both, varying along the spectrum and changing over time. More interestingly we each display various mindsets across different parts of our lives (growth in some areas and fixed in others such as artistic, athletic, parental, professional, intellectual, etc). She discourages an excessive amount of praise for success, and instead focuses on encouragement for effort as well as constructive processes. The book has case studies from education, sport, and business each distinguishing between the harm from fixed mindsets and the realised potential from growth mindsets.damay4323

13. Can't Hurt Me: Master Your Mind And Defy The Odds [Book]

Product Details:
Can't hurt me: master your mind and defy the oddsfor david goggins, childhood was a nightmare — poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. but through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a u.s. armed forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. the only man in history to complete elite training as a navy seal, army ranger, and air force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring outside magazine to name him "the fittest (real) man in america." in can't hurt me, he shares his astonishing life story and reveals that most of us tap into only 40% of our capabilities. goggins calls this the 40% rule, and his story illuminates a path that anyone can follow to push past pain, demolish fear, and reach their full potential.
Reviews:
David Goggins is an extraordinary individual. He is constantly seeking to improve himself – he still understand that he has a long way to go. This is shown through his constant pursuits to find the courage to go past his comfort zones. At times, it is shown that he puts himself at life's risks – however, this book shows us that anything is possible if you use a positive mindset everyday. I don't think everyone will love the strategies he used throughout his journey or even to this day, but one does become fascinating with someone who is eager to always never be complacent. Isn't that what we all want? I love this book. I'm very happy I purchased the book and it will be one I keep on my bookshelf… forever.Anyssa
This true story of a man who had a horrific childhood and suffered more than most could even fathom is inspirational beyond any self-help book you will ever read. If you are stuck in a rut or need a reason to lift your focus, Goggins will teach you his secrets. I have read many self-help books and this is beyond self-help, this is a (true) story woven into success. I challenge anyone to read this and not be inspired. My son has also read it now and he in the past 3 weeks is now running a marathon distance each week. Such is the power of this story.Stewart
This is a book that I will reread for years. This man's life was far from easy and persevered through so many challenges and obstacles. From an abusive childhood he learned from the beginning that life wasn't easy and no easier to dealing with racism in his teenage years. Which lead him to want to rise higher above all odds and join the military then onto the navy seals, and from there became an elite athlete. David Goggins shows you how to callus the mind from mental, physical, and emotional pain to keep pushing yourself to see what you're really made of and put aside our lazy excuses. This book is truly motivating , I would recommend to everyone.jennifer.l

Reviews:
This book is essential for anyone who wishes life could be better. What a surprise…it actually is! The author very simply describes what can be a complicated concept of an individual's perception creating their reality…that is, finding peace in your heart in the midst of ordinary life. Some people pay for illegal drugs, or pursue any number of other dead-ends to achieve some contentedness in life, but all along had the wrong perception of just what is really important. And it's not rocket science either. It's very easy to read, and I wish I'd read it thirty years ago. Better late then never. Although the author is a zen monk this book has nothing to do with religion, and everything to do with happiness. Please read it.1ginther
