Lots of practical advice for dealing with the usual catalogue of injuries and ringing endorsements from elite climbers who all seem to climb 5.14 or harder. For the mere mortal there's lots to take away and focus on and in that respect I feel like I've made midseason New Year's resolutions that need a bit of effort to implement and then keep up. Excellent read of the life and death struggle to climb K2–the world's most dangerous mountain. Egos and oxygen deprivation cause some climbers to do stupid things on the mountain while in the same environment, other climbers perform heroic actions. All of this contrast is captured by the authors. In addition, rather than just focusing on the western climbers who paid to climb K2, this book tells the whole story by including the story of the Sherpas who helped the westerners to the top. Got this book because I wanted to do top rope and sport lead in Yosemite. Yosemite doesn't have much in that category but by the title of the book it seemed like there was a good handful in the park. When I talked to the guys at the mountaineering school in the park and went to the locations I began to find out most of the information in this book was not correct. Never found the anchors that the maps shows are there. I found more useful information in the little section of sport and lead climbing in the back of the Yosemite Valley Free Climbs.
