Product Details:
The complete book of discipleship is the definitive a-to-z resource on discipleship for every christian. it pulls together into one convenient, comprehensive volume relevant topics such as spiritual growth, transformation, spiritual disciplines, and discipleship in the local church and beyond. best of all, it's produced by the navigators, the internationally respected organization with more than seventy years of practical discipleship ministry experience. well organized, fully indexed, and readily accessible, the complete book of discipleship will help you gain a wealth of insight from experts in the field, whether by reading it cover to cover or by finding immediate answers to specific questions.
Reviews:
This is an outstanding book. It covers the definition of discipleship and its biblical basis, then its history. It challenged me to consider implementing more of the Christian disciplines into my life and to find someone more mature as a believer in Christ than I am and also someone who I can bring along in the faith. I bought one of these books for each of the other 5 guys in my prayer group.so_cal_believer
I've wanted to become and help others become disciples of Christ. This is the best book I've seen for both explaining why and explaining how to become a disciple and how to pass that on to others. I decided to buy it because the Navigators says it's really good, and they've been involved in discipling for a long time. I think it's very useful, and so far I've bought 14 copies to share with others.journey55
2. Real-Life Discipleship: Building Churches That Make Disciples [Book]
Product Details:
Real-life discipleship explains what should happen in the life of every christian and in every small group so that the church becomes an army of believers dedicated to seeing the world saved.with the overriding goal to train disciples who know how to make more disciples, this book offers proven tools and strategies from real life ministries, one of america's fastest-growing churches.discover what the bible says about true and effective discipleship with these strategies and practices.
Reviews:
This is a book that is subtitled ?building churches that make disciples? for a good reason. Supported by real-life examples that many will identify with and effective and practical strategies and tools to engage people in the church to find their best role, it is a valuable book in reflecting on what we do in churches at the moment, what we could do and what we must do to spread the Gospel. It is impossible to contain current thinking about encouraging gifted leaders or building and strengthening churches within around 200 pages. So what this book does well is outlining in three parts, a mission to identify leaders or disciples, a process to equip disciples and supporting these leaders in their evangelical work. It is practical, Biblically warranted and is well illustrated with experiences the author has had and has had passed to him. In terms of evangelism, any message and method must highlight the holiness of God. It is the prescribed way, the biblical way that pleases and honours God and brings blessing on our efforts. This is a book which supports these criteria and supports the true meaning of ?church? and the true meaning of ?disciple?, piety and godliness in a very practical sense. I liked this book because of the emphasis it gave to a practical and involved faith. Many books look at the conceptual stages of spiritual growth and seem detached from where churches find themselves. But this is a practical manual and alongside an accompanying training resource is immersed in what people can do and contribute at different stages of their spiritual journey. The examples used in the book are excellent and it is refreshing to see different age groups used throughout the book to illustrate points. This is a book that increases understanding and is a book that I will return to again. It sets its process out well, takes its warrant from very well selected biblical texts and is an excellent resource for leaders looking to identify others to strengthen and grow their churches ? whether in spiritual growth in the membership or by helping people lead others to a saving knowledge. Recommended Highly.Donaldmurdo,

3. Deep Discipleship: How The Church Can Make Whole Disciples Of Jesus [Book]
Product Details:
Everyone is being discipled. the question is: what is discipling us? the majority of christians today are being discipled by popular media, flashy events, and folk theology because churches have neglected their responsibility to make disciples. but the church is not a secondary platform in the mission of god; it is the primary platform god uses to grow people into the image of jesus. therefore, as church leaders, it is our primary responsibility to establish environments and relationships where people can be trained, grow, and be sent as disciples.
Reviews:
J.T. English has become one of my favorite people to glean from these last few years, so I was excited when I saw that he was coming out with this book! It did not disappoint! It's been said that anyone can point out a problem – that's just complaining – but offering solutions is what's needed. In this new book, J.T. English helps us rightly diagnose the discipleship disease plaguing our churches and offers a practical vision for discipling every member of the church – inviting them deeper for more of God! He encourages us to make meaningful, in-depth changes, not just to our programs, but to the very culture of our churches. This book is an invitation to a God-focused, Gospel-saturated mission: to close the amateur-expert divide and to multiply disciples who go deeper, are thoroughly equipped to love God rightly, and who will in turn multiply disciples. Each chapter ends with a helpful recap, discussion questions, and a to-do list to help you move towards the next step. It is time to raise the bar in our churches and this book will point you in the right direction!Christine

Francis Chan does it again. This is an amazing book, I couldn't stop reading it. It's set up for a small group study but can easily (although ironically) be read individually. It digs deeply into the need for discipleship amongst Christians and offers sound, practical advice for how this looks in real life instead of in theory.stevus-3kd8zami0

6. Rediscovering Discipleship: Making Jesus' Final Words Our First Work [Book]

Product Details:
Discipleship is the buzzword today. many believers are contemplating in a fresh way what it means to take the great commission seriously. rediscovering discipleship takes the guesswork out of christian maturity.based on insights gained from a decade of personally making disciples, author and pastor robby gallaty tackles the two hindrances that keep believers from getting involved in making disciples: ignorance and uncertainty. since many believers have never been personally disciple, they have no model to guide them in discipling others. their ignorance of the process fuels their uncertainty, which leaves them crippled from the start. with simple principles that are easy to apply, rediscovering discipleship provides readers with the tools to follow the great commission–to go and actually make disciples who multiply and make disciples.gallaty begins with a brief historical overview of the discipleship ministries of influential theologians, preachers, and pastors from years past, and then identifies roadblocks that hinder believers from becoming disciples before offering a step-by-step process for readers to immediately get started on the path to effective disciple making.
7. The Great Omission: Reclaiming Jesus's Essential Teachings On Discipleship [Book]

Product Details:
The last command jesus gave the church before he ascended to heaven was the great commission, the call for christians to "make disciples of all the nations." but christians have responded by making "christians," not "disciples." this, according to brilliant scholar and renowned christian thinker dallas willard, has been the church's great omission. "the word disciple occurs 269 times in the new testament," writes willard. "christian is found three times and was first introduced to refer precisely to disciples of jesus. . . . the new testament is a book about disciples, by disciples, and for disciples of jesus christ. but the point is not merely verbal. all of the assurances and benefits offered to humankind in the gospel evidently presuppose such a life and do not make realistic sense apart from it. the disciple of jesus is not the deluxe or heavy-duty model of the christian — especially padded, textured, streamlined, and empowered for the fast lane on the straight and narrow way. he or she stands on the pages of the new testament as the first level of basic transportation in the kingdom of god." he calls on believers to restore what should be the heart of christianity — being active disciples of jesus christ.

9. Emotionally Healthy Discipleship: Moving From Shallow Christianity To Deep Transformation [Book]

Product Details:
The global church is facing a discipleship crisis. pastors and church leaders want to see lives changed by the gospel. they work tirelessly to care for people, initiate new ministries, preach creatively, and keep up with trends. sadly, much of this effort does not result in deeply changed disciples. – traditional discipleship strategies fail because they only address surface issues and do not go deep enough into the emotional health of individuals. – but transformative, emotionally healthy discipleship is a methods-based biblical theology that, when fully implemented, informs every area of a church, ministry, or organization. – challenges the values of western culture that have compromised the radical call to follow the crucified jesus. – integrates sadness, loss, and vulnerability, that, when left out, leave people defensive and easily triggered. – acknowledges god's gift of limits in our lives. – connects how our family and personal history influence our discipleship in the present. – in emotionally healthy discipleship, bestselling author pete scazzero takes leaders step-by-step through how to create an emotionally healthy culture and multiply deeply-changed people in every aspect of church life, including: leadership and team development – marriage and single ministry – small groups and youth and children's ministry – preaching, worship, and administrationoutreachcomplete with assessments and practical strategies, emotionally healthy discipleship will help you move people to the beneath-the-surface discipleship that actually has the power to change the world. **winner of the 2022 ecpa christian book award for ministry resources**
Reviews:
Pete's work has been transformational in my life. This latest work of his is one of the most important resources on the topic of discipleship I've read. In a complex world, where spiritual formation has struggled to go beneath the surface, this material, in conjunction with Pete and Geri's other work, opens the door to a holistic experience of Christian discipleship. It is evident that the Church is wrestling with its place in the world today. What is critical, and always has been critical, is that Christ's followers truly reflect the wisdom, the character, and the activity of Jesus. Unfortunately this has not always been the case throughout Christian history. Pete's emphasis on the need for Jesus' followers to slow down and be before they do is critical to the health of the Church and the integrity of its witness. The negative implications of following an Americanized Jesus have been on display and it is time for the Church in the West, and globally, to remember that it follows a crucified Messiah. Emotionally Healthy Discipleship stresses this truth and further explores its dimensions through discussion on loss, limits, vulnerability and measuring spiritual maturity through expressions of love. I can't recommend this book enough and I urge everyone I engage with to explore the Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Course as well as the Emotionally Healthy Relationships course. I am so thankful for God's faithfulness through Pete and Geri's work.Todd
Emotionally Healthy Discipleship is a book that I will be rereading and referring back to again and again. What I love is that this book centers on our relationship with Christ, and it is grounded in Scripture. Emotionally Healthy Discipleship addresses four failures that undermine deep discipleship, and then the rest of the book focuses on what it means to be an emotionally healthy disciple of Jesus. The author, Peter Scazzero, says an emotional disciple, "…slows down to be with Jesus, goes beneath the surface of their life to be deeply transformed by Jesus, and offers their life as a gift to the world for Jesus" (p. 26). This shows that an emotional disciple is all about Jesus, and this theme of what it means to be a Christ-centered disciple who disciples others is developed throughout the book. I would recommend this book to those who lead others both in a ministry context and those who are in the marketplace like me (I am a public school teacher). Although this concept of an emotionally healthy disciple is deep and complex (and hard to live out!), the author has broken it down into seven marks of an emotionally healthy disciple and made them simple to understand through clear explanations of how to live out each discipleship mark as well as self-assessments, charts, illustrations, and quotes. Even the footnotes are filled with helpful descriptions and are proof of how much time and research went into this book. Also, it is apparent that the author embodies these marks of an emotionally healthy disciple and has often had to learn through his own suffering, life challenges, and personal mistakes. Recognizing the four failures that undermine deep discipleship and applying the seven marks outlined in Emotionally Healthy Discipleship will help you grow into an emotional disciple that cultivates your relationship with Jesus and lets Him transform you so that your life shines and blesses people.Christina
Pete Scazzero speaks the truth, grounded in scripture, in every page of this book. Yes, written with church leaders in mind, but are we not all called to be His disciples? Pete reminds readers of what is required of us to become emotionally healthy in all aspects of discipleship. What a powerful read!Follower13
10. Becoming A Disciple-Making Church: A Proven Method For Growing Spiritually Mature Christians [Book]
Product Details:
Personal and spiritual conflicts are holding them back from the true freedom that can be found in christ alone. neil anderson has been walking individuals through this journey for over a quarter century, but now he wants to teach pastors and church leaders how to do this for their own churches. as the culmination of his life's work, becoming a disciple-making church shows you how to help your people resolve conflicts–from difficult marriages to unrepentant sin to church disputes–through genuine repentance and faith in god. rather than giving up or simply referring people to counselors outside the church, embrace the fact that god through his word has answers to problems of the heart and mind. and in this ministry of reconciliation, true discipleship will happen.
Reviews:
Not what I expected! Those are the first words that come to mind when I think about this book. I think from the title – Becoming a Disciple Making Church – I expected a step by step list of ways to become better at discipleship. What I found in this book was some very deep material that gets to the heart of the issues. So, other than my opinion that the title doesn't quite equal what I expected, this is an excellent book on discipleship. The truth is that we live in a world full of people who carry all kinds of baggage. And when those people give their lives to Christ, Satan is very good at reminding them of that baggage. This book is designed to help the pastor/counselor/friend help that person overcome the baggage and live a victorious Christian life. The topics range from Victory over Darkness to the Battle for the Mind to Overcoming Anger, Depression, Sexual Strongholds and the all important issue of Marriage. The main focus of the book is actually pretty simple – It is extremely hard to be all that God wants you to be if you are still dragging all of this baggage around. God wants to set you free. But that path to freedom isn't easy. One quote from the author really stood out to me. He was referencing how people carry baggage and basically try to make it on their own. And that is the biggest mistake that any Christian can make. We can't make it on our own. We need Jesus. But here's the quote from the book: "It is human nature to think only of our resources when God gives us seemingly impossible task…We call Him Lord and pray earnestly for His guidance, but we struggle to give up our self-sufficiency. We started out natural existence by saying 'I can do it' when we were two years old, and we want to believe that we can…We struggle to hang on to the last vestige of our natural life, while God is orchestrating just the opposite." God loves us! And God wants everyone of us to live victorious lives. We just have to trust Him.Marcus
It a good read and makes you more aware who you are in Christoutlawrider17

12. The Cost Of Discipleship [Book]
Product Details:
This book is a compelling statement of the demands of sacrifice and ethical consistency from a man whose life and thought were exemplary articulations of a new type of leadership inspired by the gospel, and imbued with the spirit of christian civic duty. copyright libri gmbh.
Reviews:
Great book in original German. I am sure. It's a difficult subject. I wish I could read it in German. The translation to English is very poor. That makes it so much more difficult to follow his thread of thought.bigjozef
This is a "tough read." Bonhoeffer had not yet been arrested by the Gestapo but it becomes obvious, after reading this, why he eventually was. It is pertinent in this modern time because of all the pressure put upon Christians by many groups, philosophies, and political movements that stand opposed to orthodox Christianity. It is a difficult read because, early on in the book, Bonhoeffer states that Christ calls Christians to die with Him, not fight for Him. Many folks in 1930's Germany didn't want to hear that message and many, in the western world of today, don't want to hear it now, either. That said, not only is it a tough read but it is also an inspiring one. The forces of evil, secular humanism, religious and political extremism, once, again, challenge Christians to live their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. It was difficult to love those who hated them in 1930's Germany, just as it is in the modern, western world of today or in the reaches of developing nations. The key word in the title truly is "Cost." To be a disciple of Christ just may cost a person everything, including life itself.65uscg69
If you are a Christian, and you aren't crazy enough, this book can take you over the edge if you want that. Being committed to Christ is good, but this through this book Dietrich Bonhoeffer makes you feel like crap at every turn while pulling you forward to next level craziness. He was a martyr to the Faith, and I'm not sure he could live up to what he was wrote.yukkashen
