1. The Quantum Universe: (And Why Anything That Can Happen, Does) [Book]
Product Details:
International bestselling authors brian cox and jeff forshaw's fascinating, entertaining, and clear introduction to quantum mechanicsin the quantum universe, brian cox and jeff forshaw approach the world of quantum mechanics in the same way they did in why does e=mc2? and make fundamental scientific principles accessible-and fascinating-to everyone.the subatomic realm has a reputation for weirdness, spawning any number of profound misunderstandings, journeys into eastern mysticism, and woolly pronouncements on the interconnectedness of all things. cox and forshaw's contention? there is no need for quantum mechanics to be viewed this way. there is a lot of mileage in the "weirdness" of the quantum world, and it often leads to confusion and, frankly, bad science.

Reviews:
A fine attempt to explain the inexplicable.
Some of the material will remain arcane to readers who are not well-versed in physics and mathematics; and despite Chown's best efforts, this book is much like others I've read on the subject. What is admirable about this volume, though, is the author's generosity in acknowledging those lesser-known scientific pioneers whose achievements in this field are inestimable.
3. Alice In Quantumland: An Allegory Of Quantum Physics [Book]
Product Details:
You've heard about alice's adventures through the looking glass. well, alice is about to embark on another amazing journey. she's going to shrink again – to the size of a nuclear particle – but she's not going down the rabbit hole. she's headed for quantumland. and what is quantumland? think of it as an intellectual amusement park smaller than an atom, where every ride, game, and attraction demonstrates a different aspect of quantum mechanics – the often baffling, always intriguing theoretical framework that seems to provide the most accurate explanations of the way things are in the physical world. in this masterful blend of fantasy and science, robert gilmore uses the allegory of alice's travels to make the uncertainty principle, pauli's principle, high-energy particle physics, and other crucial parts of quantum theory accessible and exciting.
Reviews:
It helps pull all the other explanations together.kw7a
First time I've ever purchased a book based on the title alone. I didn't even read anything about it. I found the best price and purchased it. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a hard back. I have not started reading it yet as I have a lot on my plate but I look forward to it.kayasufficiency
I only saw a short review of this book, it was in an article but can't remember the link. The book seemed a captivating allegory, a good introduction into a world where our practical intuition fails to create a clear image of the physical processes involved. On the other hand, this book does just that. So I decided to buy it for a proper lecture.radhoo.tech

Reviews:
Excellent. Very technical.ojm123
Great intro to quantum physics. It goes through a history of discoveries in physics and then has experiments that can be done to prove those discoveries. Some experiments are fairly cheap, some are more involved and more expensive. Many are at or above a university level. Just dont get lost in the setup and forget what youre trying to accomplish overall, as some are quite involved. Im trying to learn this subject from the ground up and so far its been an interesting journey. He really does try to keep costs down, but were not all electrical engineers with that kind of a salary with which to work. But if you can swing the cost of some of these experiments they are really educational and mostly intuitive in their concepts. If youre interested in learning quantum physics, you certainly cant go wrong with this book.charleypete1957

Reviews:
I have no understanding of calculus, so got lost pretty fast. I am sure if one did have a better math background the book would be fine. I am interested in the subject and wanted a very basic description.mable8216
I am not a physicist but a curious reader with reasonable basic scientific knowledge. I bought this book because I know very little about the subject. That is: I'm a dummy on this topic. I was very disappointed. The treatment is highly mathematical and theoretical, whereas I would expect a dummies book to be for laypersons. I have no doubt it is excellent stuff but empathically not for dummies. Sorry!Puzzled blue eyes
I brought this book because of another book I purchased from Booktopia. I've found it very fascinating and mentally stimulating, which is great for my intelligence. I would recommend this book to young teenagers who are getting into Quantum Physics. As it's very helpful. I plan to keep it in my bookcase for years to come for my future grandchildren.Meaghan

Reviews:
Read the Amazon.com reviews of this bookit is NOT meant to be an introductory quantum field theory textbook, AT ALL. It is just a super-basic introduction to some of the concepts and techniques that you will encounter in an introductory QFT course. Again, *PLEASE read the Amazon reviews, which list out the NUMEROUS ERRORS and suggest appropriate "next steps" as far as introductory QFT material.samuelclemens87
"Demystified-serien" består inte, som titlarna möjligen kan antyda, av populärvetenskap låt vara att de är något förenklade jämfört med de oftast använda läroböckerna som, i det här fallet, Weinbergs The Quantum Theory of Fields. Den här boken tar exempelvis inte alls upp renormering. Men det som tas upp behandlas noggrant. Anmärningsvärt utförligt och begripligt är avsnittet om elektrosvag växelverkan.Bengt M

12. Quantum Mechanics: A Modern Development [Book]
Product Details:
Although there are many textbooks that deal with the formal apparatus of quantum mechanics (qm) and its application to standard problems, none take into account the developments in the foundations of the subject which have taken place in the last few decades. there are specialized treatises on various aspects of the foundations of qm, but none that integrate those topics with the standard material. this book aims to remove that unfortunate dichotomy, which has divorced the practical aspects of the subject from the interpretation and broader implications of the theory.in this edition a new chapter on quantum information is added. as the topic is still in a state of rapid development, a comprehensive treatment is not feasible. the emphasis is on the fundamental principles and some key applications, including quantum cryptography, teleportation of states, and quantum computing. the impact of quantum information theory on the foundations of quantum mechanics is discussed. in addition, there are minor revisions to several chapters.the book is intended primarily as a graduate level textbook, but it will also be of interest to physicists and philosophers who study the foundations of qm. parts of it can be used by senior undergraduates too.

14. Consistent Quantum Theory [Book]
Product Details:
Quantum mechanics is one of the most fundamental yet difficult subjects in physics. nonrelativistic quantum theory is presented here in a clear and systematic fashion, integrating born's probabilistic interpretation with schrödinger dynamics. basic quantum principles are illustrated with simple examples requiring no mathematics beyond linear algebra and elementary probability theory. the quantum measurement process is consistently analyzed using fundamental quantum principles without referring to measurement. these same principles are used to resolve several of the paradoxes that have long perplexed physicists, including the double slit and schrödinger's cat. the consistent histories formalism used here was first introduced by the author, and extended by m. gell-mann, j. hartle and r. omnès. essential for researchers yet accessible to advanced undergraduate students in physics, chemistry, mathematics, and computer science, this book is supplementary to standard textbooks. it will also be of interest to physicists and philosophers working on the foundations of quantum mechanics.
15. The Quantum Theory Of Motion: An Account Of The De Broglie-Bohm Causal Interpretation Of Quantum Mechanics [Book]
Product Details:
This book presents the first comprehensive exposition of the interpretation of quantum mechanics pioneered by louis de broglie and david bohm. the purpose is to explain how quantum processes may be visualized without ambiguity or confusion in terms of a simple physical model. dr. holland develops the idea that a material system such as an electron is a particle guided by a surrounding quantum wave. he examines the classic phenomena of quantum theory in order to show how the spacetime orbits of an ensemble of particles can reproduce the statistical quantum predictions. the book will therefore appeal to all physicists with an interest in the foundations of their discipline.
